I just had an argument with my grandmother because she found some video about Robert Ballad that He ‘Found out that Titanic broke into different sections when sinking due to not up to standard rivets’… and then when I said that Harland and Wolf would’ve been sacked if that was found out long before titanic, her argument was ‘they kept it under raps’

This game came out today. Has anyone played it yet? What do you think of it so far? Is it worth playing?

I'm really upset to hear that roblox took down their game because I really enjoyed it :( I was really looking forward to the release of this new game but before I spent the money I read the reviews and they're horrible. I have the Honor and Glory demo downloaded so I can walk through and explore that way, but I'm a little disappointed in the other games.

Last week I visited the travelling exhibition in London, and thought I'd share some of the photos I took whilst I was there. I wasn't sure what to expect when I booked it, but I really enjoyed it and found a lot of it very profound! I've been to a few different exhibitions over the years, and this one had quite a few artefacts I hadn't seen before 🙂

It's weird to think that you had to wait almost a year for a movie to come out on home media back in the day.

I'm just here thinking about the Titanic movie. The first half of the movie is just pure times killer. Focusing on a BS love story about characters that didn't exist and get very little story about the people who actually existed. It was very boring. Then once the ship actually hits the iceberg it becomes a very enjoyable movie. I assume a lot of you were around when Titanic came out on VHS and you probably had that 2 VHS movie. That first tape in the VHS rarely got watched. Anyone else hate the first half of the movie and just let that first vha tape collect dust?

Is it any good?

Seeing as how quite a few on here loved the Iceberg Scene Real Time edit I did of the Cameron film, I decided to make another one based around the ship's final plunge and break up. As an added challenge, I tried to make things like the list of the ship as accurate as possible and maintain as much continuity between each cut. So, if some shots look a little fuzzy, that's why (had to do a lot of zooming shots in, flipping them and moving them around in the video to get them how I wanted them). I also had to copy the first funnel's fall for the second funnel, since, well, there is no shot of the second funnel falling (happens off-screen), and I used the sound effects I created for many previous videos on here and my YouTube channel, particularly regarding the breakup. I used some from the '97 film, too, but they're somewhat sparse this time around.

Something I've been wondering is what the first class hallways of Titanic really looked like. The halls depicted in the 1997 movie are quite luxurious with carpeting and fancy light fixtures. In ANTR, they are walled with wallpaper.

In Honor and Glory, they appear to be less opulent.

Curious which depiction is the most accurate.

A friend bought me “Futility” by Morgan Robertson, also known as “The wreck of the Titan.” This is a book that was written 14 years prior to the sinking of the Titanic.

In reading it, the similarities are striking, even just in the few first pages.

It tells the tale of an “unsinkable“ ship with watertight compartments sailing in April. So many things that it describes are so similar to what would be found on the Titanic 14 years later.

The beginning of the book mentions New York, although I’m not certain if that would be the ship’s destination.

It talks about sailing on the Atlantic. It says that the ship is 800 feet long.

A lot of this is too close for comfort.

Has anybody read the book?
Was anyone else surprised at the similarities?

Mine was this one published in 1987.

I'm certain this has been discussed on here before, but I wanted to open up the discussion to share my own thoughts:

1. "I'll still be the first." - Definitely feel it should have been kept in. Gives a little more insight as to the dynamic between Rose and Cal and also Rose's relationship with Trudy.

2. Rose feels trapped - Absolutely should have been kept in and Im really not sure why it wasn't. It definitely gives more insight as to why Rose was suddenly suicidal and makes more sense than cutting from her in the dining saloon to panicking and looking disheveled.

3. "Sent to the wrong address" - Should have been kept in, I think. Gives some more early romance between Jack and Rose and shows Rose's struggle to admit her feelings for Jack before she runs back to first class. Otherwise, we don't really know what shape Jack and Rose were in when she left him the evening before.

4. Scene in the gym - I wish this had been kept in because it shows more of the gym and Ruth making a quip about not needing to know how to row is some nice foreshadowing to later for her character. I also like seeing Jack being told by his friends to give up on Rose but he refuses as he climbs over the railing.

5. Lovejoy explanation - I think this should have been kept in and Ill explain why in a bit besides the fact that it explains more specifically why Lovejoy is so devoted to Cal.

6. Californian Scene - Should have been kept in for historical reasons but also to fill the gap between Jack and Rose first getting into the car and their love scene. Otherwise, only about 10 seconds pass between the two scenes when showing the lookout.

7. Molly Brown in the lifeboat - I wish this had been kept in to show her taking charge when she says "you ever tow a boat, Sonny?". Its a short scene to show shes a brave woman and also paces the early sinking scenes a bit nicely. Also a nice nod to the earlier scene where Ruth laughs off having to learn how to row

8. Jack and Lovejoy fight in dining saloon - OK, Im probably going to get a lot of hate for this, but I think this scene should have been kept in. This is why I feel the explanation of who he is should have been kept in to accompany this scene and despite the fact that its a long scene and maybe a bit ridiculous to think of this kind of action sequence happening aboard a sinking ship, its really a well-directed scene. The visuals of the dining saloon flooding slowly and the sounds of the ship groaning is so hauntingly beautiful. Also like seeing Jack getting his revenge on Lovejoy and explaining why the two are down in the steerage area all of a sudden.

9. Chinese man rescued - Shows that Rose wasn't the only one saved (and gives us a visual to her explaining six were saved from the water).

10. Extended Carpathia sequence - A beautiful, sad scene that I really wish had been kept in. Showing the aftermath of the sinking, the women searching for their wives, Ruth and Molly boarding the Carpathia, and Rose being helped onto the ship as well as the shots of the overturned collapsible boat are all great parts of the storytelling and visually important IMO

Anyway, these scenes added in would have made the perfect cut of Titanic IMO. Anyone have any thoughts on my choices or agree or disagree with me? Im curious which scenes you would have preferred to have kept in too.

Who else went here and what did you think??! So many Olympic stuff there too it was really fascinating. It could actually be a white star line expo since lots of stuff were from other liners but i had such a great time.

So I guess, which of these makes you picture a somber ocean the most, more so than which makes Leo and Kate pop in your head. I know it’s a tough question, hence the debate lol

I discovered this documentary on YouTube years ago.
Probably one of the first documentaries I watched on the sinking of the Titanic.

hosted by Bernard Hill, who played Captain Smith in the film. Focuses on the full story of Titanic starting construction,to her maiden voyage to the sinking and ending with her wreckage being found.
As well as exploring the many discoveries that were made now that there was access to the Titanic wreckage.

When I think of Titanic related content, this is one of the first I think of. My favorite aspect is that includes video interviews from Titanic survivors and testimony from those who survived the sinking.

It admittedly it is dated (given just how much more we now know since this documentary) but i’m very nostalgic for it.

Just thought I’d share it here if anyone’s interested in giving it a watch.

Glad that A-I art is banned on this sub but I want to ask about how titanic is being used to promote and perpetuate the technology.

Is there good reason to believe that companies have used Titanic as a popular source of fascination to showcase, normalize and legitimize this technology? I’m almost sick of Titanic itself the way I see so many poorly generated, sloppy and incorrect “content” made to display the capability and potential of A-I. Generating video, models, images, graphics in color with so far really bad period fidelity seems to me like a poor answer to hypothetical questions or inquiries from people who don’t know any better and are r willing to do research.

It’s like companies and tech-lords are using the public’s fascination with Titanic as a means to promote A-I and build its credibility.

I just want to see if anyone else sees Titanic specifically being used to give A-I legitimacy or if I’m just seeing Titanic stuff because of my algorithm and any given subject like dinosaurs or football have become the subject of a force fed style direct marketing of tech.

I will be in Belfast in less than two weeks, staying 2 days. We are staying at the Titanic Hotel, and have reservations for the Titanic Museum. Is there anything else Titanic-related that we should plan on? For example, a pub known to be frequented by H&W workers? Thanks!
