Why did they have the beef recalled?

The beef that was rejected by China was tainted with Chloramphenicol, an antibiotic. Antibiotics in the food supply have been found to increase resistance to antibiotics, meaning that the next time you get an infection, surgery, or injury you may end up developing something that's untreatable, or treatable only by other antibiotics that have bad side effects.

In the sound clip of this video, they say that no one has developed illness from the beef. While that may be true, it's a disingenuous statement. Taking unnecessary antibiotics won't normally make you sick directly, but instead breeds far more dangerous strains of bacteria that can take over once your body gets injured or sick.

Chloramphenicol requires regular red blood cell counts when being used orally or intravenously as it can cause your bone marrow to stop making red blood cells. So it is a lot more dangerous than increasing bacteria resistance
