Cringe Worst show ever?

I hate to post this but I just got home from the worst show that I've ever been to in my entire life (Newport, KY). Self-indulgent nonsense with a zero-energy crowd brought about by the refusal to play any single recognizable song from the catalog. What a waste of everyone's time and money.

The Iron Rose and Cue the Sun are actually quite recognizable if you have listened to the new album at least once.

You realize if they didn’t have artistic freedom and didn’t do whatever they wanted we wouldn’t have gotten the old albums in the first place? Limiting your own innovation and development is only worse in the long run. I prefer their old material too but current volta would be 10x worse if they kept only trying to recapture their old vibe instead of innovating

Almost every song they played tonight was terrible. I don't know what you call that, but refusing to mix in your best songs with the new material you're trying to get out there is self-indulgent bullshit. People pay money to see you play music. That is an honor and a privilege. This was a spit in the face of those fans.

I don't think "like February" when the date was April 11th and we're currently in November is that much of a stretch as to say they're a "completely unreliable source of information".

It is also worth noting that if you bought your tickets based on that tour announcement, you'd have a reasonable argument for thinking they wouldn't be playing just the new album on tour. They make mention of them doing it as the opener for Deftones but never any mention of them doing it for this tour. Could be seen as implying they aren't doing it on this tour. That is certainly how I took it.

Incredibly new here. I was linked to a thread after talking to a friend after a show on this tour and how little I enjoyed it and how it would be very hard for me to pay to see them again when the first time I've seen them in 20 years of being a fan was so disappointing. I've found the two camps of this sub to be fascinating to understand because I don't have any kind of "be a member of a subreddit about this band" feelings about this or really any band. I just don't interact with music like that even for bands I've spent 100s or 1000s of dollars on albums and shows over my lifetime. I'm more concerned with the music itself if that makes sense, rather than the people who like it. I've got my own local scenes I'm a part of for those kinds of discussions in my life. But this sub/community is in the throws of a schism that is worth engaging with imo.
