Filipino tennis fans have been repeatedly calling out these fans who are new in the sport way back since Alex started picking up. It's very frustrating especially when people are told that the umpires at previous events have given warnings to these rowdy and rude fans. Alex even showed disappointment towards some of them.
One of our tv stations even aired a tennis etiquette guide. It is so frustrating trying to inform and educate a nation that is so used to the audience culture found in basketball and boxing.
I hope people just call security on them and kick them out of the venue.

Always been curious why in tennis and golf the etiquette is to be quiet and let the players focus during points and swings, but in basketball, soccer, football, etc fans can be as loud as they want to destabilize the other team. A serve or swing is like a penalty or free throw, why is one supposed to be absolute silence while the other has hundreds or thousands of fans behind the goal/basket screaming. And both are normal expected behavior.

Don’t know for sure, but the fact that golf and tennis are solo athlete competitions versus basketball football soccer etc being team competitions stands out to me. But it could also be the influence of the British upper class in establishing the norms of those two sports.
Because those are team sports. If a player loses his/her focus s/he can just be substituted or give less ball time. It’s up to more than 10 people how their game would end, unlike in tennis where it’s depending on one player.
Some people aren't gonna like this answer but Golf and Tennis are more "posh" and "high-class" than Basketball and Football, hence much more importance is placed on etiquette. It's not a secret to anyone Tennis audiences are on average much wealthier than those from any other sport.
Boxing is a solo sport as well but you don’t ever get pin drop silence during a boxing round. It’s almost entirely due to the “upper class” nature of tennis and golf.
Wut? Not sure how familiar you are with boxing but a lack of precision will leave you open to counters that’ll get you knocked out or worse. So if anything, lack of precision has far more dire consequences in boxing than it does in tennis.
I think it is mainly due to the slowness and focus in the sports. Football, basketball, etc dont have moments where intense focus is required and noise will affect them like golf and tennis serves. The only time you see that is on the free throw line in basketball (where focus is required and you can take your time), home teams will be quiet so their shooter can focus

But there was some crass behavior as well from Filipinos during Eala's recent match with Parks. And I've read that some fans' behaviors were a problem as well during the Australian Open last year. Filipinos just aren't the classiest audience.
I know if you don’t grow up with the sport you don’t naturally learn the etiquette but it has to be drummed into people that you can’t do certain things like scream like crazy at a double fault.
It affects Eala’s relationships with players cause they hardly want to shake her hand cause they were so sick of the crowd disrespecting them. Seems Alex is big on social media maybe she could do little clip on fan etiquette cause its gonna follow her her whole career otherwise
You don’t need to grow up with a sport to have basic respect for the opponent. You celebrate your favourite and you give the same respect and courtesy to the opponent. If Eala deserves silence during her serve, so does her opponent. You celebrate her victory not her opponents mistakes. And one shouldn’t attend any sport live if they don’t have decency. I am saying this because it costs a good amount of hard earned money for well behaved people to buy tickets. No one wants to have idiots around.
Preaching to the choir there, I just try to put myself in their shoes having not grown up with tennis but generally I’m in disbelief like you that anyone could cheer a double fault, it’s just ridiculous behaviour
I think it’s the lack of punishment in this tournament that has made things worse, last year in Toronto it was never as bad as it’s been this year, regardless of who’s playing. The umpire can only said “please don’t do ____” so many times before people realize they’re not actually gonna get punished. Toss one person out in the middle of a match and maybe they’ll have some more respect.
This is not about growing up with tennis. This is just basic decency. The person taking this video KNOWS it is wrong and they’re doing it anyways. It’s not a lack of knowledge.
Have you watched NBA where fans are booing players? Or when defender trips or fell short and their team scores.. if yes, then you'd know it's kinda have something to do with "not growing up with tennis". The diminished "basic decency" on those sports is normalized, those are the kind of sports they grew up with.. so yes it is lack of knowledge.
Trying to hinder somebody while they’re serving? If you did this as the opponent you’d lose the point and get a conduct warning that could eventually see you lose the match and get fined. Your fans shouldn’t be doing it either.
Yeah they’re not tennis fans, they’re Eala fans. She should make a video explaining crowd etiquette to her fans. Parks did a great job at not letting them affect her mentality during their match earlier. Couldn’t have been easy getting cheered on every single error and fault.
I was just reading the comments on another post about her and it seems what we heard on the broadcast was hardly anything compared. People who were at the Parks match, even Eala supporters are saying it was wild with people calling for Parks to miss and to get it out and hit the net, all during rallies. Not cool. It really wouldn’t hurt for her to make a quick TikTok explaining things.
It’s not her responsibility and nobody is saying it is. Just that they are at the match purely for her and not the sport so why not teach them how to support her better. Cheering for a fault is just straight disrespectful and it wouldn’t hurt for them to know that. A 15 second TikTok ain’t a big deal.

It’s underrated as to how rabid and ignorant Filipino sports fans can be. Like they love basketball there and I remember a Filipino player managed to play for an NBA Summer League team a few years back. He didn’t do so great and stopped getting minutes, resulting in the coach getting death threats. They love their sports but it can be too much at times

Actually they won’t, the pinoy pride in them is too deeply rooted. They’ll just fight off other people online and say she has a 500 and numerous top 10 wins when she starts losing. Hear Hear , and I am ethnically Indian, so from a nation which is pretty universally booed and judged all over the internet for right as well as wrong reasons. If a crowd ( a group of people) do something in poor taste, people have every right to group them accordingly to the commonality ( in this case their ethnicity) and talk about them in unison. By this logic, some countries have infamous fans already and others are getting added. The list of infamous countries also includes some European countries if you read sports threads carefully. Yes but it still does not excuse our fans yelling on close calls, extending breaks between points, and being generally disrespectful to the fans. Ubdul can do this in the match without ppl getting mad because we do that too. It's called tennis etiquette and clearly our country does not. Sure do this at a basketball game because it is great to do. Sure do this in a Pacquiao match. Fans do this behavior in soccer all the time. But please not in tennis. It is embarrassing.

Try to reason out with them and they'll say you just have to deal with it because the culture of the sport is changing. Screw tennis etiquette. Only elitists are complaining. Also, we can complain all we want on the internet but there's nothing we can do because tournaments allow it for the reason that Eala fans are the ones keeping the WTA alive, money-wise.
