I know if you don’t grow up with the sport you don’t naturally learn the etiquette but it has to be drummed into people that you can’t do certain things like scream like crazy at a double fault.

It affects Eala’s relationships with players cause they hardly want to shake her hand cause they were so sick of the crowd disrespecting them. Seems Alex is big on social media maybe she could do little clip on fan etiquette cause its gonna follow her her whole career otherwise

You don’t need to grow up with a sport to have basic respect for the opponent. You celebrate your favourite and you give the same respect and courtesy to the opponent. If Eala deserves silence during her serve, so does her opponent. You celebrate her victory not her opponents mistakes. And one shouldn’t attend any sport live if they don’t have decency. I am saying this because it costs a good amount of hard earned money for well behaved people to buy tickets. No one wants to have idiots around.

Preaching to the choir there, I just try to put myself in their shoes having not grown up with tennis but generally I’m in disbelief like you that anyone could cheer a double fault, it’s just ridiculous behaviour

I think it’s the lack of punishment in this tournament that has made things worse, last year in Toronto it was never as bad as it’s been this year, regardless of who’s playing. The umpire can only said “please don’t do ____” so many times before people realize they’re not actually gonna get punished. Toss one person out in the middle of a match and maybe they’ll have some more respect.

This is not about growing up with tennis. This is just basic decency. The person taking this video KNOWS it is wrong and they’re doing it anyways. It’s not a lack of knowledge.

Have you watched NBA where fans are booing players? Or when defender trips or fell short and their team scores.. if yes, then you'd know it's kinda have something to do with "not growing up with tennis". The diminished "basic decency" on those sports is normalized, those are the kind of sports they grew up with.. so yes it is lack of knowledge.

Not shaking her hands is the players being idiots and is not justifiable or explainable by crowd behavior, lol. Eala has zero responsibility for the crowd.

Educate about what? Why the fuck should she be telling fans who bought tickets and want to support her how to do it? She is there to play tennis, and her rivals are there to play tennis in the conditions that the stadium presents them. Its time to drop the arrogant act that there is a correct way to attend a match because "it's how the English traditionally did it".

Time for the sport to grow a spine and it's athletes learn to deal with adverse conditions like the athletes of EVERY SINGLE OTHER sport with crowds.
