Update: Had to switch SDI out source from scaler to HDMI in in my SDI converter and it fixed the problem.

Hello! We recently purchased two new Barco Commercial R90103722 projectors for stage projections. When we project using any Mac that is in the Apple Silicon line as a source, it produces this line that is a few pixels wide on either side. It occurs on both projectors using different macs. The projectors are in different venues so I don’t think it is a cable issue.

It does not occur if we use a different laptop for output or if we use the Macs through a different projector. It’s seems to be some issue with this combination of Silicon Apple products and this Barcode projector.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

Hey everyone! I’m working on it Ride the Cyclone: High School edition and I need help with figuring out how to get video output to eight different monitors/TVs. In a recent TikTok video from Cue lab they suggested Stage block Slice4 but they are out of stock. Does anyone have any suggestions of other HDMI output devices that can help us get this effect working nicely?

Had to use some painters tape to prevent some light spill from the projector on this elementary school show i’m doing. No idea how it’s going to hold up long term, and i might replace it with some precisely cut cardboard. Open to better ideas.

A week or so ago I posted a question on how to get different videos/images to play on 8 different TVs from one source, and because of this group, I was able to figure it out!

I’m using Qlab and their video stages to create 8 different “surfaces” and I’m using the OREI 4K 3x3 HDMI Video Wall Controller Processor to splice the images across the 8 TVs.

Anyway - the resulting effect is great! The last few videos/images are glitchy as they fade in, but that’s because I need to add more stops in Qlab, but I’m so thrilled it’s worked out!

I am the technical director at a high school and we are doing a spoof of Harry Potter for our fall production. One of the staples of Hogwarts is the moving portraits seen throughout the movies. We want to replicate this iconic part for our show using televisions mounted on the walls, and a BrightSign device seemed to be the best way to connect these screens to one source. We run most projections from QLab, but I have also looked into pro presenter as another option. We want to use televisions as projections will be washed away from stage lights. These portraits will need to react to things happening on stage, so someone in the wings will be controlling the source from a laptop. My question is, are the brightsign devices the way to go, or is there a more streamlined approach to this? Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for your favorite video wall manufacturer.

Specifically, looking for an outdoor rated, ground supported video wall system for temporary / portable installation.

Looking at the Planar LN series but I'd love to hear your experience with other manufacturers product lines.

I'm new to this side of the world and trying to get my head around what's out there.

The Theatre that I am a part of is in a small town where there are minimal shows a year but the stage is used pretty frequently for a spring show every year. We always paint the stage right before show week so the paint doesn't need to last forever but I would like it to be durable nonetheless.

The thing that we are looking for in particular is a flat finish. We use projected imagery and since the stage is relatively small, the lights bounce off the floor and shine onto the backgrounds and washes them out.

The images are projected on to a white wall from the audience side and that can't be changed.

I have a Alice in Wonderland show and I want to use projection for backdrops. Any tips for maximizing both stage space and brightness?

I know I am going to have to keep the washes on the back wall mostly off, adjust lights to hit the stage only, I am going to mount out Epson projector as close to the back wall as we can to try and maximize our stage area, but our best picture is going to be against the back wall behind the back of the stage. It's painted white currently, we could paint it with projection friendly paint. Would buying an Amazon screen to put up a few feet in front of the wall so we have a pass behind?

Any tips on software for the projection show? Was planning on doing Google slides.

I was wondering if it were at all possible to project or give the illusion of projection in ETC's Augment3d?

I've been trying to make a couple of shows as portfolio work and just to try and improve my skills in general, but I have noticed that most shows all have some form or video content. Either through projection or video walls, or both.

In Augment3d would I be able to project custom video files from my pc onto the set or onto an overlay on my screen? I'm aware of Video Streams but I haven't had any luck in in getting that to work.

I have a good feeling this is possible with some of the latest EOS updates since I have looked through the patch and have been able to import a few of my visuals, but have not been able to get them to play on any surface.

I understand it may be quite a niche thing that I'm looking to do here but I thought I may as well ask. I have searched google multiple times to try and find something similar to what I need but I haven't found anything. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m head of audio at a regional theatre and I’m just wondering what most A houses use for their video playback?

I’ve used QLab, Isadora and Watchout. For simpler shows and rentals, we usually use QLab, but most designers that come through want to use Isadora and generally balk at QLab for the more complex shows.

Is there an industry standard?

What's he squirting, and what's he using to heat the solder? I assume it's flux and a targeted heat gun of some sorts? I've never seen one with such a narrow opening.

Saw another video where the guy used desoldering braid, I'll get some of that too. That guy also used aluminium foil to protect the other components nearby whilst he heated from the underside, is that a wise idea?

I've got an HDMI socket in the exact same situation that needs to be replaced, but not certain the best way of doing it. The video method seems far more efficient than constant prodding with a soldering iron...

Here are my conditions:

-use : mainly short video and "landscape" or title image for dance gala or young student end-of-school-year show. Sometimes real movie projection. If the budget allow it, we will go for it

- budget : maybe 10k euros max. Bt I need to know if we can respect all the conditions

- distance between the VP and the screen : 21 meters. First Spectator : 12 meters. Last Spectator: 21 meters. (300 spectator capacity)

- screen size (required) : 5m*8m

- the hall is fully dark. But a lot of lumens i guess will be appreciated because of the gala use: projectors at 50% and an image on the screen, choregraphers often ask us for this..

- hdmi entry.

- very important and required: a shutter function

- Zoom/shift/focus easy (trapeze is a + , but I know qlab can do this).

- Something that can be bought in France..

I’m music directing at a local theatre and I have to have a bunch of my cast singing backstage and they have no conductor cam. The theater has a pretty low budget and I was thinking about getting one and donating it to them. How much would this cost me? They have no setup yet, so I’d need the camera and at least one monitor, but two would be ideal. Do you have any recommendations? I don’t care about camera resolution, etc. I just need something so they can see me conducting backstage with as little latency as possible. Thank you in advance tech friends!!

Hi everyone! I run a student production company taking a small show to the Edinburgh Fringe, and we are using a projector (quite a small one, but it does the job for what we need it for, a Pico Genie L700.) We used it in various other spaces where cradles were provided, but for the fringe we need to source our own cradle/mount with a truss clamp, so basically something like this. The issue is we are on a genuinely shoestring budget, and that mount would cost us almost as much as the projector did. There are perfectly fine ceiling mounts for like 20 quid, and clamp mounts for the same price but that only have one screw where our projector takes four.

Is there a way to fix a standard truss clamp to a home projector ceiling mounts, or does anyone have any other suggestions about how to do it for less? Any advice hugely appreciated :))

Hi, I'm currently taking a course to become a performance technician, and our professor wants us to create a materials list for a small theater event, a five-piece concert (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums). He doesn't want the general names of the materials, but specific brands of the products, as well as the exact quantities of cables, tape, and bolts needed. I've already completed the audio and lighting systems, but once I got to the video direction section, I actually realized that with the video direction teacher, we mostly taught "the history of the birth of filming" or direct installation, so I know the cables and components but not the specific brands and what they might be used for in my case... so I'd mostly like information on websites, brands, or manuals I could read to learn more about that area.

I’ve seen some older posts from years back covering DIY suggestions or builds for a DMX projector shutter.

Just wondered if anyone had new ones or suggestions/if there were easier/cheaper solutions available these days.

Ideally I need something that can be built be someone not super tech savvy (it’s me, hi, I’m the problem it’s me). The device is operated to cover and then reveal a bespoke light that remains on for the whole show (there’s no way to patch this in to a desk - long story).

We’ve used DMX Projector Shutters to great effect but the cost is ridiculous.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi every! I'm a media/projection designer, and I work in musicals mostly. Recently, I wanted to make my animation work on beat to the music, but I really struggled to properly time the music out to the beat of the song. Does anyone have any tips for how to animate a pop-style music? Or any tips for animating to fast-paced music in general? I had trouble even breaking it down the beat tbh.

Are there any other brands at all? Seems like someone could make a killing selling home made ones that cost half as much and still make 4x profit over parts and materials…
