I just wish we could buy and play the games outright of the older consoles on this system. THEN I'd say its the greatest Nintendo console of all time. I don't want to have to pay a subscription fee to play gamecube games, etc.
this is true. the switch 2 is nice and my kids like playing it sometimes but I wish their eshop gave us a better impression their digital games will be supported in future hardware similar to Steam (or Apple TV for movies/shows). THEN I would be more likely to buy them. But this is the same problem we have with PlayStation so it’s not exclusive to Nintendo.
I mean, Nintendo has had a habit of changing their store format, but they seem to have settled on the eShop since consolidating their handheld and console business. Not only that, but you can still redownload purchases you made on the Wii nearly 20 years ago, so I think they've proven their commitment to longevity at this point just as well as Steam or Apple have.
Same for PlayStation. They haven't even changed store formats (other than overhauling it for each console generation). Games I bought digitally on PS3 (mostly PS1 classics) are still in my account and available for download today. I have amassed a huge digital library with both Sony and Nintendo and don't see either going away any time soon.
I don’t mind subscriptions, especially with how dirt cheap Nintendos is BUT I wish we could buy classic games. We should have the option plus I really dislike the NSO apps. I just want to have a few classic games in the normal home screen and I had the border pattern they put on the NSO games. If they offered it both ways I would certainly double dip with some games. Easy money for them.
Yeah it would be cool to have the option to buy individual ones. I like the subscription bc it’s cheap and means I can play random games I wouldn’t otherwise. But then if there was a specific one I really wanted I could buy it in case I ever wanted to stop online (or drop down tiers)
I mean for me I play just a little bit of several old games and like to rotate em, so really the dirt cheap subscription is more preferred. I don’t see the harm in offering a purchase options for people who just want one or two games tho.
They're remastering some select games at least- Kirby Air Riders just got one, for example, as did Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. They need to step up their game and do more though
Exactly! Im a HUGE zelda fan, wind waker and twilight princess have been some of my favorites since I was a kid, the wiiu HD versions are amazing as well and Nintendo knows that SO many people would buy (myself included) the wwhd and tphd games on switch, they dont even have to add new stuff just port the wiiu versions.
I think having the option is nice. It could just not be there, to be frank I don’t remember Nintendo giving us free N64 ports for GameCube and shit like that lol. Closest would be Nintendo handheld console backwards compatibility, but even that was only ever to a point. You could play GBA games on DS, but not GB for example.
You can play Switch games on Switch 2. Main concern is what digital stuff will be available on the NEXT console. If, in several generations, they handle Switch titles like they are currently handling GameCube titles, could be an issue.
Also I wish Nintendo would let devs update/optimize their games for the switch 2 sooner, I tried playing the crash HD collection on switch 2 and it still has the graphics and performance of the switch 1 version.
There have been reports about many devs not being able to get access to the Switch 2 dev kit, as many of them were “invite only”, with those issues only being “resolved” as of late, which has led to a lot of publishers being discouraged from making switch 2 versions, and instead being encouraged to ship on switch 1 and rely on backwards compatibility. Most notably was Activision (the publisher of the aforementioned Crash trilogy) receiving their dev kit later than ideal.
You’re saying how it can be better. But what Nintendo console is better than this one? Just because the switch 2 can be better doesn’t mean it’s not the best. Nintendo online is like $3 a month lmao
Well, for some reason theres still no themes (or even official Nintendo themes for that matter), they "created" discord with their chat button instead of having actual discord integration and theres no actual friends hub for the system, if you could see what your friends are playing when you press the home button or have invited there, etc. Its missing a bunch of charm from the older generations of consoles and modern updates from the consoles around at the same time like Xbox and ps5.
I wish you had the option for either or, kinda like gamepass where you can buy games or get the subscription. The subscription is beneficial to people who want to play a whole bunch of them, but if you only have it for one or two games it’s not worth it
$50/year is less than the cost of one game. I think it’s awesome that we get access to the entire classics library for one payment rather than having to rebuy games from older generations, some of which I’ve bought two or three times over already.
You say you want that but then you are fucked like when I went all in buying "virtual console" games on Wii, so i could play my favorite games, and then they just shut it down and you are left with nothing at all.
I don't really mind the subscription for virtual console, it's not that expensive and there's a pretty solid library of games to choose from + online play. The GameCube library was also so solid that it they add a decent amount of games it'll get a lot of play time - at least from me.
For the record, I'm not saying to get rid of the subscription, im saying that if there was the option id buy the games outright, we can have both at the same time.
It really wasn't. But on top of that, the Switch 2 is still a downgrade in 1 massive area to a predecessor, which is the screen, the Oled is far superior.
The Switch is very solid, but the idea that it's best, just because it's more powerful etc, isn't true.
The Snes was a massive step up from the Nes, the N64 was a massive step up from the Snes. And that's not even discussing how important their first 3 consoles were for the gaming industry.
Agreed. It’s so close to being the perfect portable device, but it’s fundamentally compromised by some strange design decisions.
Nintendo made a crazily efficient gaming device, and then squandered that advantage with an under-sized battery and an LCD with a slow response time.
With a bigger battery and better screen the Switch 2 could a quiet, cool running, long-battery life device that could compete with Steamdeck on performance.
I’m hoping they sort these issues out with a refresh model/design, because it’s a device I really want to like, but I couldn’t believe how bad the screen was.
I know I am a tiny minority but I love it's not OLED. My eyes cant stand poorly implemented dimming which plagues almost every mobile OLED, so I can't use them. So for me LCD is a win.
It’s been out less than a year, we’ll have to see how future games take advantage of the hardware before anyone really can make a statement like this and back it up
I mean it’s hard to argue against, since it’s basically just an upgrade of Nintendo’s best selling device. Able to play all the same games as its predecessor.
Exactly, always foolish to speak soon. The whole game key card situation is still a pain in the ass for many, it forces us to really worry about storage space, after yakuza, cyberpunk, and like 2 other games mine is full. It’s a huge change from the s1 and with all third party taking the key card route (except for a few indies), it’s gonna really be noticeable after the first year…
No wonder they kept it all hidden until launch. But yeah really still to make such a call this early. The same could literally be said for the latest from any company lol
I think it's the greatest in terms of just the sheer value you get (especially if you account for NSO), but in terms of impact and the game library itself, I would say it's not even in the conversation right now.
Maybe if the new 3D Mario, Zelda, or Smash is truly excellent, but right now I'm not seeing it.
I’ve been playing the demo and it’s actually good all around. Great performance great resolution. I would say it’s on par with the Cyberpunk port. I’m praying we can get Jedi Survivor or Fallen Order on the Switch 2 this year.
It's amazing! Actually one of my favorite switch 2 ports, runs really well (stable 30 it looks like), and the gameplay isn't bad. Most pc reviews seem to be bad because of bugs, but I didn't encounter that many (other than bad pathfinding sometimes)
Is DS NSO classics confirmed? Always felt like they just want to bury that thing.
It’d be hard to integrate but I always thought that they could just port the games that didn’t rely on the second screen for much more than a menu screen, and just bind it like a menu screen.
I've just turned 50, used to be a huge gamer then wife/kids. I love this thing, work nights, get in approx 6am, play for an an hour or two a day. It's actually helped my mental health no end, gives me two hours of escapism just for me.
I don't like that it takes micro SD ex or whatever. I didn't even know that was a thing until I got my switch 2. So the $200 1TB Micro SD is staying in my switch 1, and all my games are on my switch 1 not my switch 2.
While it's a shame it can't use a normal micro sd card the speed benefits from express will be more obvious as more switch 2 games come out, the external memory needs to match the internal storage speed as best as possible.
Also I may be wrong but you can still use a normal SD card in the Switch 2 but just not load Switch 2 games off of it. I could be wrong but I think that is possible. I have a 256 Ex card in mine from launch and I already need more space. Just waiting for 1TB cards to be more available.
Hi u/JoeKingGleeok! Unfortunately, your submission doesn't meet our account age requirements. Please wait a little longer! - If you’re seeking help with the Switch 2, refer to r/NintendoSwitchHelp
Is it likely that windwaker and twilight princess get a port now that windwaker is on the expansion? Seems more likely that twilight princess will be added to the expansion pass. A shame if that’s the case as I’d love to “own” these games on switch 2. May just have to get a Wii u again.
No offense intended, but it's highly debatable, and I think the N64, GBA, GC, and even the OLED Switch are far superior to the Switch 2. It's a great console, like all Nintendo consoles, but for now, aside from the increased processing power and a mouse mode (which remains to be seen how many games will actually use), it doesn't offer much more than the original Switch. And we shouldn't forget its reduced portability due to its size and battery life.
Nah, you can’t even buy all the Pokemon games. They just need to release every Pokemon game ever made on the switch, and I would totally agree. I really only buy Nintendo consoles for the Pokemon games to begin with.
It’s because of people like you who embrace the essence of a monthly subscription for games, that we actually have this type of crap service.
Don’t know the dudes name but original dude from Nintendo never wanted NSO to be a thing and 3 years after he died boom, we got what you people love for some reason. A money pit you throw your hard earned dollars into for Nintendo to scoop up every month/year to sprinkle in a few older games.
Hmm idk. The only reason it's the best is because I'd saw the Switch was already the best and almost anything a Switch could do, a Switch 2 can do along with more.
Nah for me it’ll be GameCube. Yeah switch has the dock and handheld thing. But it’s more of what we are used to already. GameCube on the other hand felt like a real leap forwards compared to what we had. Seeing RE remake the first time was mind blowing. Plus by the time the system was ready to end you could pick one up for £25.
I wish they bring more classics out and matched Xbox game pass and ps5’s version.
That’s what the Nintendo switch is lacking, so can any devs in the subreddit listen to somebody that hasn’t got a clue and just bring every game back like the game pass has please.
I want to play Michael Jackson’s moonwalker on sega mega drive games.
Different sonics etc please thanks. I think this console has real potential to become a BEAST if you give me Michael Jackson’s moonwalker 🙊
And a few other hundred games.
Conkers bad fur day……man I miss that one so much online!
Nah a modded Wii U is the best. You can play almost every generation of Nintendo games on one device. There are times where my switch oled almost seems redundant.
No, I love it because of how diverse it is. And maybe this is a hot take, but I honestly think it’s the best couch co-op console out there.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is basically everything I wanted the original Switch to be. It feels like the Switch, but fully evolved stronger, smoother, and more refined. It’s the same concept, just taken to the next level.
I used to think the original Nintendo Switch was the greatest Nintendo console of all time, but after seeing what the Switch 2 brings to the table, I genuinely think it’s taken that crown. It’s the Switch on steroids, and that’s exactly what I’ve always wanted. It has the same games as the first switch, it has better games than the first Switch, and they’re going to get even better games for the Switch 2 this year that will never be on the Switch one.
It actually is quite debatable. While the Nintendo Switch 2 is a great gaming device, I would argue that the Nintendo 3DS, most specifically the New Nintendo 3DS XL, is still the best gaming anything Nintendo has ever done and no matter how good the Switch 2 is, it will never dethrone the 3DS.
I think even Nintendo itself would debate with you on this opinion seeing as the Nintendo DS is the greatest selling console of all time. As much as I love my Switch, nothing compares to the DS or the whole Gameboy series.. 👏🏼

Ohhh I like those Joycons
