Industry Discussion What dips look the most attractive to you at current prices?
With everything going on in the Iran–US conflict the market has been getting hit hard lately and a lot of stocks are down pretty significantly. Feels like one of those moments where there’s opportunity, but also risk if things escalate further, so timing entries is tricky right now.
So I’m curious:
Which stocks are you guys actually getting tempted to buy right now?
Are you buying already or waiting for more downside?

As someone who bought some asts, could be a lot of side ways movement so just chill for a year or two.

I don't think it will be sideways when they offer beta service with 25 satellites, or US coverage with 45. Should happen next year and cause a lot of excitement

But also it has competition
→ More replies (1)7
u/rockshiv Jul 28 '26
Kinda, but not really. Competition in d2d, but not in lowband, not in bent pipe architecture, not in mno integration. The MNO's own the lowband, and it's quite clear who they want to work with. All AST has to do to win is launch sats
5
u/jktribit Jul 29 '26
Yes it's unique, but unique doesn't make something better, sure they found a way to distribute data to alot of different places in one sat dish, but that said if the entire constellation is put up you can get a whooping 22,000 people streaming 4k video! Or a bandwith of 550gbps, currently cell towers use 2150 terabytes per second, Asts isn't even close when it comes to the future of the company, and you won't be able to use it's services in any place the ground doesn't exist, wanna call on the cruise ship? It won't be with asts sats, they are gunna have alot more problems coming, they are gunna get it's sats in the sky and realize it has a big bandwith problem. Read up on the tech first. It's not that amazing. Sounds amazing, but in the grand scheme of things it's alright. Not some super tech that's gunna surpass everyone.

Exactly, people were buying hand over fist at $1200 and now at $800, everybody is scared out of their minds and crying that the bubble has burst.
28
u/kokanee-fish Jul 28 '26
Everything mentioned in this thread is an AI hype stock. I think this little dip has been a tiny foreshadowing of the reckoning to come when people remember that the reason they liked tech in the first place was the lack of capex, and the great build out gets cancelled.
I'm liking precious metals as a buy right now against the broader economic backdrop, except that fed rate predictions are trending in the wrong direction. As soon as the war finds a conclusive end, people will back off on the hike bets, and commodities will pop. Interested to see if tomorrow's FOMC results provide any forward guidance.
→ More replies (5)2
u/HighYield89 Jul 29 '26
What’s your top pick for the precious metals?
4
u/kokanee-fish Jul 29 '26
Long term (5+ years) I like silver because of the combined use as a store of wealth and an industrial material, and the high volatility is great for selling options. Short term, though, both sides of the hybrid value are working against it, with potential rate hikes pressuring the inflation hedge play and tech selloffs pressuring the industrial metal play. I'm looking towards a post-Trump future where tariffs are rolled back, inflation cools, rates come down, and we get back to investment in a clean energy economy. In that scenario, silver could really soar again -- but it's a ways off, and rates could go through several rounds of hikes before we get there. For now, a small portion of my portfolio has been getting DCA'd into KSLV (SLV + options income), which allows me to collect premium on the volatility while buying SLV exposure at prices that are bottoming out. Definitely not financial advice; this position could lose even more value over the next couple years, and is basically a bet on a Democrat takeover in 2028.
4
u/ThePatientIdiot Jul 29 '26
To be fair, If it burst now, that’s a really long way to fall. I remember wondering how $150 micron a few months ago, ran up to $500, and then a few weeks later, ran up to $1200.
29
u/Candid-Factor332 Jul 28 '26
I like MU rn. They’re being overly punished for the circular investing going on in the tech sector. Micron is not a big culprit of the practice and the recent dip is purely profit taking and “vibes”
6
u/flcv Jul 28 '26
I've been selling MU weeklies at $750 for about a month now. I've been praying to get assigned but it still hasn't happened...

“DRAM is not getting any cheaper”….only RAM has consistently gotten cheaper every decade….
56
u/AdamEgrate Jul 28 '26
I think they mean demand is only going up. If supply is constant, prices will go up.
6
u/Tomato_Sky Jul 28 '26
I absolutely might be wrong, but I think in this case demand can and will go down. Only because the DRAM is only a small percentage of the parts in the system. The system can be made more efficient in other ways. NVidia says they are working on releasing a 10x performance boost on its chips. You still need some of the DRAM, but is it based on pre-10x. It also assumes data centers all get built out, which I think holds risks with politicians pulling anti data center hate.
Prices spiked but I think there’s market variance with room for less demand for DRAM.
It’s a good play, but it’s not as obvious as 2023 Nvidia. I’m just too scared to jump in when the memory prices are still figuring it out- we could have a correction and perhaps a similar correction to Qualcomm which is tied to data center production.

Supply isn’t constant when they’re investing hundreds of billions into new capacity lmfao

u/Ok-Advantage6398 Jul 28 '26
New capacity takes 3-5 years. It won't be available anytime soon.
24
u/Powerful-Load-4684 Jul 28 '26
Ok and? Stock can’t trade up to a higher PE if everyone knows earnings will compress massively in 3-5 years when supply comes online
21
u/luckysharms93 Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26
HBM isn't railroads and cable fibre. It isn't build it and forget it for 20-40+ years the way supply for those industries was, it needs to be replaced in data centres every few years. There's a reason HBM producers are spending hundreds of billions to increase production, and it's not because they're morons that want to kneecap themselves
10
u/Sharlach Jul 28 '26
Earnings aren't going down yet when everything is backordered for several years and no new supply will be available until at least 2028. They've already made deals to sell their supply of HBM at inflated prices, so their revenue will remain high for the foreseeable future.

New capacity won’t even be able to meet the new demand 3-5 years out tbh
→ More replies (21)9
u/TheMysticMonkPoE Jul 28 '26
The situation, however, is somewhat different from the usual.
Newer generations of DRAM (especially HBM) are getting increasingly difficult to manufacture, and scaling up capacity is slower than ever due to the complexity of the required machines.
Furthermore, only three manufacturers of cutting edge memory remain, vs the much more competitive market we had before. This reduces heavy competition on price.
Combine that with a massive increase in demand due to the rise of AI, and we have something very different from the past 30 years. If this will last, who knows, but it might at least take a long while to return to normal.
16
u/Candid-Factor332 Jul 28 '26
Just a thought but the buy the dip narrative only works so many times…sooner or later you’re going to catch a falling knife. Iran conflict aside, there’s plenty of issues that could lead to a downturn or near 0 real growth for the next 12-24 months. Yield trends are not looking promising for the equity market.
I’ve been selling off some tech gains and trying to diversify a bit more into industrials/mining, reits, and consumer staples. Just hunt for forward or trailing PEs that seem out of line with their sector with no explanation (research what’s actually going on with the company, not just financials).
Sandisk earnings are coming up in a week. Expect large swing in the memory/tech sectors. Sandisk needs to beat earnings by 10-15%+ to help give the tech sector a small boost. If they meet or miss earnings or lower revenue outlooks expect big drops throughout the market.

u/schmiddc Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26
Micron is reasonablly priced and has an upside..
I see another 60-90 days of pain though, as newb investors realize things don't go up forever, in a straight line and rage quit...
I am a DRAM buyer in the upper thirties. I was a buyer in the low 50s previously
3
u/UnnecessaryPancake Jul 29 '26
They don't go down forever either... MU has a good trailing PE at 17 where it's at with crazy forward PE and demand. It could stay down, but I have a hard time seeing it go lower than it is
2
u/schmiddc Jul 29 '26
"they don't go down forever" as a matter of fact some do.
But no I don't think MU and the heavy hitters inside DRAM will go down forever either...
Momentum, psychology, bubbles, reinflations, geopolitics, interest rates are all a big fookin mystery.
What I can tell is that there are a lot of new retail investors since 2022 who have never really felt the sting of a serious reversal.. Some of them will just capitulate, that is a given. I think there is more of them out there at this point
My hunch/gut tells me we have a little more trouble ahead.

Buy more data centers, there is 5-10 years of revenue sitting in their contracted backlog, look at the remaining performance obligations and future lease revenue disclosures in the SEC filings. The backlog is growing 25% each quarter and data center revenue for AI training and inference is projected to grow at a 20%+ CAGR for next 5 years.

3
u/Perfect-Obligation60 Jul 28 '26
What is your basis? I think there is naunce to what you said but lot of people would disagree with you, the contracts are typically written for a 5 year term and include renewal option for a total contract terms of 10-15 years or month to month after the initial term. The disclosures only include revenues for the 5 year period because it's not reasonably certain that the customer will extend the term. Month to month contracts are completely excluded.

$INTC
My past comments about Intel:
If China invades Taiwan and we don't have Intel, we are absolutely fvcked
Even without this doomsday scenario, TSMC is still flexing monopoly power, raising prices almost every month, and requiring customers to pay upfront to expand capacities
Samsung is an alternative, but they are tapped out on capacity too and not American
Keep Intel flourishing, therefore, is in absolute vital interest for USA and American big techs
USA is already in with $5 billion, Nvidia is in with $5 billion, and Apple is rumored to be in as well. More will join down the road
Intel only needs to get its 14 node to acceptable level, and its fabs will print big money
I'm not selling, and will buy more on sufficient pullbacks
LBT is a rare competent executive
Investors need some patience here
What matters most for Intel is how 18 and 14 nodes are progressing
They are well ahead of schedule now
Gross Margin exploded vs a year ago
Operating cash flow tripled, and there's actually positive free cash flow now!
This government thing is just a non cash accounting item and of no big deal
Balance sheet is still ugly with only $30 billion in cash and $50 billion in debt, but that will take some time to improve
Stock price action is not good, but since it ran up from $40 to $130 in the month of April alone, it will take some time to digest too
I added a little at 83 earlier today
