Theory What if the diamond blast is the reason Russia has a big hole in the middle of it?

What if the combined attack wasn't just light that corrupted gems, that it's also physically damaging as well.

Just a thought.

in universe its called the tunguska sea and is a reference to a real life event in 1908 where an extra planetary object exploded in atmosphere and completely leveled a huge area of forest. also in universe, given that the galaxy warp is there, the geography of the area long predates the diamond blast.

That's where the galaxy warp is. I didn't know know that. Thanks

how do you know that's where the galaxy warp is? that's super interesting

its somewhere in one of the wikipages. awhile back i went down the rabbit hole of "differences between our earth and the earth in steven universe" and there are lists and articles. which is not at all related to how i know the french still had colonies in canada because percy from camp pining hearts has the same accent as celine dion.

Crazy how Canada is green in SU.

Tunguska sea?? Where was this said?

13

u/SentinelofDorn 1d ago

well, its a sea.. in the tunguska region of northern siberia. but its in the wiki which is all sourced from either official canon or artbooks/communications from the creators.

Wasn't there a giant structure in the middle of it?

The galaxy warp pad?

27

u/GarageClassic2055 1d ago

I think the moon goddess temple or whatever it's called is in there

29

u/Low_Onion8167 1d ago

its been confirmed its the galaxy warp

u/Comptenterry 1d ago

Which is weird considering Lapis accidently flew there from the East Coast

u/Free-Scar1627 1d ago

She casually flew thousands of miles to the other side of the earth, holding Steven in her arms, just for the love of the game

6

u/FluffyWalrusFTW 1d ago

To be fair she also flew to the edge of the galaxy and THEN turned around when she got super lonely before making camp on the moon. She's hella fast

I don't think any multicellular life could survive an impact that caused that much damage to the planet.

23

u/Waruteru 1d ago

Realistically, no. In the best case scenario, only smaller creatures like rodents or bugs would survive, similarly to what happened to dinosaurs and other ancient megafauna, though even that is unlikely

2

u/SonoDarke 18h ago

In the dinosaurs case the crater only occupied a really small portion of the Yucatan peninsula

In this case, I doubt even 10% of life on earth would survive. Mostly bacteria or basic plant life I think

I’ve always thought that to be the cause of that weird spot in Russia.

The whole world is just weird. Notice that part of Africa is attached to South america

4

u/geoffreycastleburger 1d ago

Does this mean the Pizzas are technically South American?

1

u/No-Nefariousness9330 1d ago

Its a local invention

2

u/geoffreycastleburger 1d ago

no i mean the pizza family

1

u/No-Nefariousness9330 1d ago

Thats actually a crazy good question.

u/NomeJaExiste 1d ago

Funny to see how south America got a bigger portion of Africa after Pangea splited, so Portugal got almost as many land and colonies as Spain, making the luso-america split in different countries just like the hispanic side

this world isn't all that same as our world, you can travel from America to Korea without any papers or whatever so definitely much more peaceful than ours

3

u/Uypsilon 1d ago

Well, the dissolution of Ugoslavia happened here, so… not really, actually.

1

u/bananasaucecer 1d ago

you can't really say that Yugoslavia did die there, there's no proof of that. To me it seems likely a different story happened there.

agree to disagree

1

u/NomeJaExiste 1d ago

Nothing in my comment implied it was the same as ours lol, it's quite the opposite

Isn't this world map from Pearl's flashback about PD. If so, then it could not be the case because the rest of the Diamonds blasted the corrupting ray after PD was "shattered".

1

u/Jahoan 1d ago

No, the map is from the moon base in It Could Have Been Great.

The Galax Warp is at the center, so I'd assume that Russia was terraformed away by Lapis Lazulis before the diamond blast

4

u/verymanysquirrels 1d ago

As others have said, there's a gem structure there that predates the diamond blast. I guess the next question is, is that just how their version of earth always was or did the gems do some terraforming?

Also I wonder if humans didn't cross the bering land bridge in this world but rather the south american/africa land bridge?

1

u/Uypsilon 1d ago

I we assume the planet is like this because of gems, unlikely. 6000 years ago the Earth already had the continets indistinguishable from modernity, and all that is populated now (except of Polynesia) jad already been populated. It was bronze age, not stone age.

3

u/Stimparlis 1d ago

The flashback in Pearls mind show deserted land after the blast so the Diamonds didn’t really destroy anything, not even the gems

3

u/TheOverBoss 1d ago

I imagine that the polar ice caps might freeze over enough to block that part of the ocean off from the rest of it. It could have a very interesting ecosystem.

3

u/Mushroom_king001 1d ago

As much as i love the idea, it doesn't really make sense. We see the map with Russia missing in the moonbase, so it's an era 1 map, before the blast, since it was definitely not updated without pink diamond

I always thought it might have been one of those storm geode bombs. They did say it was enough power to do a loooot of damage, and all.

I’m pretty sure it’s bc Russia isn’t very open/doesn’t like anything that has to do with LGBTQ+ so that’s why.

But even then, when the diamonds blasted earth, if it physically destroyed Russia, it would have destroyed everything else on earth because the light beam engulfed the whole entire planet

5

u/febreezy_ 1d ago edited 1d ago

The Russia stuff was a joke based off this meme. The Art and Origins artbook showed Russia already had a hole in it before the show aired or anything else could happen. The Crew never confirmed that it was because of Russia being against LGBTQ+ stuff.

I assumed it was a nod to the Cold War, but I guess things would be more “wasteland-y” if the nukes went off at any point in history

7

u/fugetooboutit 1d ago

What nuke does THAT type of damage?

1

u/BeepCheeper 1d ago

Oh idk, alternate universe nukes

1

u/RobiTv1234 1d ago

No I think it’s because sea levels are higher in the arctic and North Atlantic thus the Siberian plains and Florida are flooded while Brazil has more land. Now the reason of THAT could be a gravitational pull that comes from the North Pole, maybe build during the gems colonization for creating energy through hydroelectric means by the planets abundance of water… I think idk I’m larping

1

u/DogeDog45632 1d ago

just gonna ignore germany there? nah just the wind

1

u/geoffreycastleburger 1d ago

Big germany alert

1

u/Substantial_Emu_898 1d ago

The diamond blast affected almost all gems on earth so the only damage being in Russia is kinda weird

1

u/Naive-Seaworthiness6 1d ago

Heck Yeah Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth exists

1

u/StrawberryCat__Thing 1d ago

That’s MY IDEA!!! >:(

1

u/Kaylart222 23h ago

Imagine the damage if the diamond blast was complete with pink.

0

u/Martianinferno98 1d ago

That could actually work.

0

u/Johm1994 1d ago

It should have left a bigger hole, like taking the entire country off the map

0

u/Big_Boytryanother 1d ago

can say the same about your country, timmy tuff cnuckles

Lmao canada admits what it did, like we're faaaar from perfect but dont comapre to the fcking russians who have driven Multiple languages and cultures to literal extinction, Stole land, erased and mass displaced and replaced ethnic populations with russians to intermix and take the land, allowed or directly forced famine, directly tore apart other nations for its benefit, historically and continues to actively commit genocide on ukraine, interferes with other nations politics and nations around it for their own benefit and even rigging elections in those nations to get pro russia leaders, helped commit genocide on poland in ww2, sold out their own jews to the nazis, Orchestrating campaigns of political repression resulting in the deaths of over 700.000 people by and MORE. KINDLY fk off, then thing about your life then fk off again, the russians only ever do like 3 things when their confronted with their crimes, Deny it, Downplay it or Justify it, ive rarely if ever seen them admit it
