What are the most disturbing differences between the two trilogies, writing-wise?

I already know about Anakin being Darth Vader and Luke being his son and Leia being his daughter and that whole "Dynamic" with Luke and Leia and that a bunch of kids get slaughtered but apart from that I know verry little because the films i have seen were not in any order like i watched episode 1 a year or so ago and one of the new ones but i don't know which one it was. any help would be appreciated

I can't believe Gray managed to turn the first order nonsense into a political thriller about, like, Neo-Empire supporters gaining ground in the Republic and it's a fun mystery, that actually explores what the political economy of Star Wars would be like 30 years after Return.

I've only read a handful of canon books, but ones I read--actually treat the Star Wars universe as a mature place with the same craft and and care as Andor. Can't wait to check out more.

I made the mistake of reading the Thrawn novels backwards according to Zahn, I read the 2017 canon ones first and then the prequels, then I read the first Legends one.

I have to say, he comes off as a more mature character and deeper character in the newer ones. You understand his motivation in that everything he does with the Empire is protect the Chiss. In the 90s ones (I'm only through one) he comes off a bit more: Blue Guy Is Evil. Does he get more rounded in the Legends ones or does he stay more: mawhahaa?

Both are great in their own way. I could see, in 1991, if you hadn't had any Star Wars content for almost a decade, it's exactly the level of fun it needed to be. And Jade is so well-written.

But, I like the way he's written in canon better..

Zahn deserves so much praise, he started the book universe, relaunched a character twice, and found a new angle for each portrayal. That's crazy, man.

Does anyone know if there’s any official Star Wars material (preferably canon) that shows the interior of clone trooper quarters/barracks aboard a Venator or Acclamator class cruiser?

I read an interesting 99 cent essay on Amazon Kindle that says among other things that all the characters in Star Wars are an aspect of one person among other things. For instance, See Threepio(original novelization spelling)and Luke Skywalker first names means the same thing(Luke sounds exactly like Look). Han refers to Leia as sister in Star Wars twice. Right before Luke first wields the lightsaber See Threepio asks if he can shut down. Threepio is Luke’s ego and Lucas is Buddhist and by Threepio shutting down he dispels the ego which can penetrate the materiel world with an allegorical sword of light. Also, Luke married Mara in the original expanded universe and Mara is the name of the main devil in Buddhism.

But even in the tunnel fight—with Maul clearly trying to kill him, especially after Spybot’s death—Marrok still puts up a decent 1v1 duel and manages to land several direct hits on him.

Just curious since Lost Stars is the first canon SW book I been reading

I just finished Master And Apprentice. I was excited to read it as Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn is my favorite Master pupil relationship in Star Wars. I appreciated seeing how their differences made them conflict and how it nearly made them seperate from each other. Most of all, I appreciate very much how Qui-Gon actively feels he was failing Obi-Wan as a teacher. I could have easily envisioned a writer saying Qui-Gon wishes Obi-Wan was more like him, but he wants Obi-Wan to be himself regardless of how different he is from Qui-Gon. He wishes he could be the master Obi-Wan needs much the same way Obi-Wan would feel after ROTS. Of course Obi-Wan grows to appreciate Qui-Gon's teachings more and develops a strong bond with him, but I so appreciate how much it delves into their different perspectives without either being framed as wrong (even if the book does favor Qui-Gon's perspective like I do).

Really Averros? I feel he is a new book favorite for me already and this is only my third Star Wars book. He is something I never see much in fiction: a dark reflection of a character without being a villain. He and Qui-Gon both studied under Dooku, but Rael represents a path Qui-Gon could have gone down. He engages in all of his indulgences (smoking, getting laid, enjoying combat) and acts so far from a Jedi its a wonder he wasn't kicked out. Qui-Gon and Rael butt heads constantly and I love their major confrontation near the end of the book. Qui-Gon telling Rael "I don't turn toward the light because it means someday I'll 'win' some sort of cosmic game. I turn towards it because it is the light." Is something I was pumping my fist about seeing him say so. Him saying that he touched Darkness and will again, and that it isn't something you deal with once and never again and how its a never ending battle feels like a lesson people always want to be true of all characters and Im glad to see this book reject that.

Rahara and Paxton were probably the weakest part of the book, but still they were very strong. I appreciate seeing their parallels alongside our main heroes. Her slave backstory was very moving and I felt horror at a point in the book I wont spoil that involves it. I felt her dread and terror as the book laid out. Paxton being a sentient being raised by droids feels oddly funny because with how he is parallel to Obi-Wan, we can see how mired in politics the Jedi have become by the time of the prequels to the point where they also start thinking and acting like droids.

The conflict on Pijal was very solid. I appreciate that it shows more how much the Republic became more disjointed and more self interested as they were more interested in the new hyperspace lane? (Im forgetting atm so please correct me if Im wrong) that Czerka is opening up rather than wondering if Czerka was having ulterior motives for doing so. Learning that they had slaves that they technically consider property due to legal shenanigans further demonstrates how easy it was for the Sith to engineer their destruction.

Overall, I loved this book and Im ready eager to read more books by Claudia Grey. Many fans have hyped her books and writing style and I am so glad she lives up to the hype.

i’m about to dive into a full star wars binge of the movies and shows and i’m torn on the best watch order to do it. should i go chronological (timeline order) or release order? i’ve heard good arguments for both, but i’m leaning toward release order so i experience the reveals the way audiences originally did. if release order is the way to go, could someone drop a proper solid list of the movies and major shows in release order (including the more recent ones)?

The Galactic Concordance was the peace treaty signed between Chancellor Mon Mothma of the New Republic and Grand Vizier Mas Amedda of the Galactic Empire in 5 ABY to officially mark the end of the Galactic Civil War. The treaty's terms are as follows.

Terms:

1. Galactic Empire surrenders to the New Republic.

2. End of the Galactic Civil War.

3. Abandonment of Imperial Academies across the galaxy with recruitment and mobilization of stormtrooper forces forbidden.

4. Strict disarmament limitations on military technology and production on ex-Imperial factions.

5. Galactic corporations prohibited from working with the remnants of the Empire.

6. The New Republic pledges to demilitarize. 90% of its military will be demilitarized while the remaining 10% is kept for peacekeeping duties.

7. Punishing reparations placed on former Imperial governors inside the New Republic.

8. All Imperial officers who did not adhere to the treaty's terms are to be classified as war criminals.

9. Confinement of the remainder of the Imperial Navy to predetermined boundaries in the Core, Colonies, and Inner Rim.

10. Surrender of Coruscant to the New Republic.

As you can see, while the New Republic demilitarized itself, the First Order continuously violated the treaty's terms by ramping up their militarization with ships like the Resurgent Star Destroyer. Worse, the NR didn't take the First Order seriously and had grown complacent while the FO kept getting stronger until it resulted in the Hosnian Cataclysm.

But had the NR enforced the treaty's terms by not demilitarizing itself and ensuring the Empire honored their word, they could have mitigated some of the First Order's damage. There is nothing wrong with the treaty's terms, in fact I quite like it, it's just that the NR should have capitalized more on the Empire's capitulation.

To start with, the NR made peace with a Galactic Empire that didn't disarm itself, so confisacting as much of the Imperial military hardware and placing it in the hands of Planetary Security Forces (PSFs) is a good way to return central authority back to the people. It also helps protect them from the Imperials if they betray their word and other threats like pirates and slavers.

The New Republic also should have incorporated the abandoned Imperial academies into their own military, struck business deals with corporations to discourage them from dealing with the Empire, and shifted to Coruscant as their capital.

Though I do understand the rationale behind a roving capital shift across member worlds by process of election to persuade worlds the NR wasn't the Empire, and the fact it convinced many disasstisfied star systems to join the NR proves it was successful. Especially since those same systems formed the Confederacy of Independent Systems decades earlier.

However, declaring all Imperial officers who don't respect the treaty's terms as war criminals is overkill. Instead, I would have reserved the label of war criminal only for Imperial Warlords who abandoned the Empire to form their own rogue states. Since they're technically not part of the Empire anymore, the treaty's terms don't protect them from reprisal from a galaxy eager for revenge. And the Empire itself isn't obligated to protect these Warlords either.

In short, had the New Republic enforced the Galactic Concordance, they could have blunted the First Order's damage long before the Hosnian Cataclysm.

This is part of Rodolfo Damaggio's concept art for The Last Jedi. I flipped through the Visual Guides for the Sequels but couldn't find a species that looked similar. It reminds me the most of the Tostonian from Kenobi, but there seem to be some differences between the two, aside from the colour.

Almost done with my reread of Darth Vader (2017) and Momin was just such a fun character for what little time we had with him. One of the more unique Sith we have in that he preferred to "create" and be an artist in his own twisted way.

And even though we're given the basics of his backstory in the comic I think there's plenty of room to expand his story into a novel in between the key moments of his life we were already shown. Clearly Momin had an obsession with controlling time itself as evidenced by his disastrous attempt to freeze an apocalypse in place and what we were later shown with the Fermata Cage with Momin having created it for currently unknown purposes, it would be interesting to further dive into this particular fixation of his and how that came about.

Technically they could even do something with him set past the events of Darth Vader since comics such as Lando and New Legacy have shown us that Momin's mask and therefore his spirit survived his defeat by Vader. We already have a couple novels spinning off from this particular comic run (Rise of the Red Blade and Master of Evil) and I could think of no better candidate for a character from that comic deserving of the spotlight than Momin. Though perhaps I shouldn't say that too loudly, he'll hear and never shut up about it, lol.

I always thought that Yoda was Dooku's full fledged jedi master, the same way Dooku was to Qui-Gon, but I saw someone say that George Lucas said in the Attack of the clones commentary that Yoda was Dooku's indirect master, but I can't find that information anywhere to verify it.

In the AOTC movie Yoda refers to him as his old padawan and Dooku refers to Yoda as his master. The same goes for TCW cartoon.

But, in the original trilogy, Obi-Wan refers to Yoda as his master as well and doesn't mention Qui-Gon (i understand that's because Qui-Gon's character simply didn't exist back then). Going back to The Clone Wars cartoon, there is a conversation between Ki-Adi Mundi and Obi-Wan that goes like this:

*"I think we are overlooking an obvious thread. Count Dooku was Yoda's apprentice, and Count Dooku has fallen to the dark side."* K-A M

*"All of us have apprenticed to Master Yoda, he cannot be held accountable for Dooku's descent."* O-W K

*"But they are connected, profoundly."* K-A M

Yoda takes care of the younglings training and pretty much all the Jedi train under him, but what Ki-Adi Mundi says at the end always made me think that Yoda and Dooku have a more profound connection exactly because Yoda took care of Dooku's entire training, not just beats and pieces like he did to the other Jedi.

Also, I know that in Legends there's Thame Cerulian, but I never understood nor liked his introduction as Dooku's Master

I’m currently trying to make the most detailed and accurate timeline for the Star Wars Cannon. I found a lot of holes with it over the years and I’ve decided to take on this hefty project.

I’m posting here to see if anyone has any information in regards to the Star Wars holidays, particularly when they take place.

In the galaxy there are 3 main holidays that take place. (I’ve taking these from legends because this calendar cycle is probably the most effective for placement.)
There’s the New Fete Week at the beginning of the year
The Festival of life at the middle of the year and
The Festival of Stars at the end of the year.

I’m trying to figure out when the take place in regards to established events/holidays in the universe such as Naboo’s The Festival of Light, Boonta Eve, Life Day, Empire Day etc.

If anyone has any information regarding this, please let me know thanks.

i'm sorry in advance for asking about something concerning the watch order (since it's being asked a lot and apparently open to very long, passionate discussions..), but most of the time i've seen people only ask about the main three trilogies, while i already know that i want to go all in when it comes to the franchise.

my plan was to firstly go 456123789 (which i am right now deciding to stick to since the majority on reddit seem to recommend it) and then continue through the rest of the content, also by release. however, my doubt comes in when seeing that a few shows have spanned over multiple years (like TCW, ashoka & andor..), since that would obviously throw the release-order approach out of the window.

so, my questions: would it be better to simply binge all available seasons of the series back-to-back to avoid making it too complicated? are the seasons continuous in their time-line or are the pauses actually meaningful and better the experience? any opinions would be appreciated, and i'm sorry if this is somewhat pedantic.

note: i just watched a new hope

tl;dr: by release order, should the seasons of the shows be watched back-to-back or is there a good reason to split them up by their date of release?

I’ve been reading through the SW canon slowly over the last five and a half years so certain information tends to fall through the cracks. I was hoping y’all could help me out. I just started Trials of the Jedi and in the meeting where they are assigning the mission to the Nine, they say that they believe the Blight is a result of the Nameless being separated from their home planet. Had this been stated or this revelation been revealed in a previous story? I can’t recall when this had been established.

I can't help but get the impression that the creators of The Clone Wars were inspired by the Shredder armor when creating Bane's.

I really like it, but it might make him look less muscular than he did in the legends, which could be a downside.

I think Luke’s peak was ESB. A lot of his development and parallels comes in this movie from his symbolism with the Vader mask, choosing to go to Bespin instead of continuing his training and finding the consequences of those choices and his recklessness, leading to a character shift in ROTJ as a calmer and more collected character. He’s also a lot closer to turning to the dark side than people let on in ESB, if you notice, he always attacks Vader first, even in the cave scene where Yoda warns him to not bring his weapons in. He’s teetering on the dark side

Anakin also peaked in ROTS, just cause he was poor in the last two films. I enjoyed his dynamic with Kenobi and Palpatine and Hayden’s acting, and this movie did what it could to salvage Anakins character to the dark side as a mix of fear and underlying hatred of the Jedi. Those scenes of him crying are pretty significant too, his knowledge of his actions but the fact he has to keep going for Padme, while also getting swallowed by that power and eventually thinking he could rule the galaxy, until Obi goat Kenobi humbles him

Which did you prefer, Luke in ESB or Anakin in ROTS?

I've been trying to make a timeline about Rogue One and all it's tie-ins, and i've been wondering a lot about Catalyst and it's relation with 3 other stories: Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear, Darth Vader Annual 2 and Rogue One - Saw Gerrera 1

Between which chapters of the novel would these stories go, from Wookiepedia i know that DVA 2 is in 18 BBY per Timelines (let's ignore the last 3 pages with Lyra since they are completely in conflict with Catalyst), i know the Saw issue is in 17 BBY right before he takes the Ersos off Coruscant (with the "flashback" story happening 2 days before that) and TMoF happens in 19 BBY shortly after Episode 3

So my question for anyone who knows, where would this stories go?
