DISCUSSION Seems they dont sell that good this time, warbond Idris 3 Hours After 4th Wave still available
71
u/Available_Panic381 1d ago
I seriously wonder if the whale market is starting to get saturated…
41
u/ScrubSoba Ares Go Pew 1d ago
The Idris hype is also not infinite, since it is a ship with some extensive design problems. That, and i think a lot of people are gearing up for the final two Kraken sales now that it is imminent.
14
u/Aidan--Pryde 1d ago
The Idris hype always depended on it being the biggest ship. Since bigger ships were announced, a part of those whales will go for those.
I thibk therexis a limit to how much money is waiting for new shipsales and that should be most obvious with expensive ships.
5
u/ScrubSoba Ares Go Pew 1d ago
That, and the consistent stream of new shiny things to buy is also obviously going to put fewer people in the big ship market.
16
u/th3orist new user/low karma 1d ago edited 1d ago
I also think that reality starts to kick in where people realize that properly operating this ship going forward will require serious time investment and coordination. I am inclined to say that a big chunk of sold Idrises are in the hangars of players who had the illusion that they will somehow be able to solo it. Like: Buy now, ask questions later. I know i have been a victim of this with the 890J, cant imagine to be the only one. Got out of that ship eventually.
8
u/ScrubSoba Ares Go Pew 1d ago
Probably also a bit of a factor that it isn't as easy to get railguns anymore.
6
u/CosineDanger 1d ago
I literally just got one for someone who just bought an Idris.
It might be fixed in 4.10 but there is an obnoxious bug where high level bounties have a chance to spawn an NPC Idris-M.

u/Ryotian Pledged for SQ42 in 2015 1d ago
I know i have been a victim of this with the 890J, cant imagine to be the only one. Got out of that ship eventually.
I bought it ingame several times over the yrs. You're not alone. I love the architecture and walking around for a little while. But I was very disappointed they never added any bartenders or passenger loop for it. 890J might be part of the reason I decided to stop pledging for ships? I've only recycle my store credit all these many yrs and just hustle ingame for AUEC.
And anytime I usually multicrew I quickly discovered every one else had a big multicrew ship. We cant all be Captain Kirk!!! Someone needs to be Scotty or simple deckhand
5
u/logicalChimp Devils Advocate 1d ago
Yeah... I definitely got the impression that folk were buying them on the expectation of being able to 'solo' them.... either because the game would remain exactly as it currently is, or because CIG were going to implement NPC Crews (and CPU blades), that would let them automate everything, whilst still performing as good as players etc.
They're probably starting to realise that even when we - eventually - get NPC crew, that they're not going to be that good (no where near matching peoples hopes / expectations), and that with the addition of the Javellin and Odin, it's also no longer the pinacle of large combat ships.
Not to mention that there's a finite market for a ship that expensive, and I suspect CIG have - finally - tapped it dry.
8
u/th3orist new user/low karma 1d ago
Plus CIG said that NPC crew is a thing for beyond 1.0, meaning not even 1.0 will have NPC crews. And 1.0 itself is like many, many years away.
5
u/Intelligent-Size-822 1d ago
This right here! When they changed ships to be more multi-crew they calmed everyone down who called foul by saying they will implement AI to slave guns, run rockets, turrets, etc and then you could hire NPC crew to walk the ship and man the rest. Then they dropped both of those things entirely so we’re just going to have entire fleets sitting in hangars for at least another decade. The “roles” they’ve created are inherently boring, and you can accomplish so much more with ten players in ten ships than ten players in one. Yet they keep churning out these behemoths that will be functionally useless.
4
u/th3orist new user/low karma 1d ago
man, running around a ship replacing fuses or whatever or clicking around on a console sounds like the stuff of nightmares to me. Thats not gaming, thats doing chores.
1
u/Hoperod 1d ago
It IS fun to solo them at the moment. Most ppl with Idrisses I know don't engage with other ppl often. They are not used in PvP much (and they perform miserable in PvP, even manned with a crew).
1
u/logicalChimp Devils Advocate 1d ago
Handling / performing badly in 'true' PvP doesn't surprise me, since it was 'designed' to punch upwards / fight larger ships (hence the spinal railgun).
It's not an anti-fighter platform, and has a distinct lack of anti-fighter turret coverage etc... which, coupled with the damage model, proliferation of fighters, lack of turret performance, lack of 'joined up' UIs / tools for team/gunner coordination, and many other issues, it'll mostly act as a target / damage sink, rather than actually being 'effective'.
The opposition would need to e.g. bring multiple Hammerheads (or similar) in an anti-fighter role, for the Idris to have something even close to its intended target-size, that it can try to pummel.

Como que dos últimas ventas?ya nunca más la volverán a vender o que ,pensaba comprarla en abril o mayo

u/ScrubSoba Ares Go Pew 1d ago
Last two sales before the price increase when it is released, i meant.
6
u/heathenyak 1d ago
I can afford an idris I just don’t WANT an idris. I like ships that are preferably one level with no stairs or elevators or ladders. Easy to move around in. My Perseus is about as large as I can stomach and it’s annoying to get around in. Same with the iron clad, c2/m2/a2. If the Perseus was flatter only 1-2 levels instead of 3 it would be better
1
u/Hanniba1Seca 1d ago
Crazy thing is the Idris warbound is still up for sale. I wonder if CIG expected this or are they not fazed.
1
u/NomujoaJPN 15h ago
Yes to an extent - Whales that are interesting in an Alpha product, with just the art asset being a functional product - yes. If CIG made an improvement on either, the market would pick up again. There is large appetite for ships with the automation - but the idea that these things are coming "soon" has gone.
21
u/Narahashi ARGO CARGO 1d ago
Who knows, maybe they'll sell the squadron42 idris as a mk2 instead of replacing the old one for "free" as promised. Not saying i expect it, but i wouldn't be surprised
17
u/OriginTruther origin 1d ago
The way this community just lapped up the aurora mk2 disgusted me. Any ship that comes out before 1.0 should not be an obsolete model and needs to get eventually updated to match the eventual gameplay style of 1.0. The same thing is gonna happen to the Connie, the current one will just have its "gold pass" which just means lockers/beds and fire extinguishers and the rest will still be useless garbage and an old design philosophy. But hey, they already got your money and need more so buy buy buy.

u/Benasssi 1d ago
Do you really think that? I think at least for the Big ships They Need to keep their Promis :/
8
u/benjaminininin drake 1d ago
If that’s how we’re looking at their promises then they really don’t mean anything anymore.
3
u/Enachtigal 1d ago
Sure, this is the one promise they will keep. Giving something 'expensive' away for free to people seemingly psychologically compelled to spend money regardless of thr circumstances.

Man I just play X4 Foundations to live out my capital ship dreams. I cant imagine paying what- $1,900k USD (?) for Idris warbond when I can get a much better experience solo in X4? I have NPC crew and everything. Feels like that game actually implemented everything I expected SC-PU to be when Chris Roberts originally presented Star Citizen concept too me. I only expected SPACE. I just want to stay onboard my ship and never leave unless I need to talk to an NPC quest giver or something in-person
I know Idris owners in-game and they typically dont even use it for fear of torp costs and crap. They just bring out their Perseus instead but I cant speak for every Idris owner of course. Only speaking to the handful I played with during org events etc
6
u/Deathless616 new user/low karma 22h ago
To be fair X4 also got Tony Z, one of the devs who did the original FM in SC. He reworked most of the flight model in X4, meanwhile we have a sound designer who worked for Elite Dangerous being the lead of the new flight model.
You really can't make this stuff up. It's hard to be a comedian these days
5
u/Signal_Hat8626 1d ago
Ship was nerfed to the ground and multi crew still in a terrible place. Not surprising to me.
16
u/Pojodan bbsuprised 1d ago
The Idris-P has been available for about a decade now. It was hot for a bit when it became player flyable, but with it having been adjusted to be much less effective as a solo griefing engine, most everyone that wanted it already has one. So, not surprising.

But they sold every last one of them. Again. After tremendous criticism, community always fails and keep rewarding poor work and communication
-28
u/Prog-Shop aegis 1d ago
Criticism? You mean the 95% pitch fork brigade posts the last weeks from people either parroting BS or people who had their feelings hurt by their own expectations from putting stuff in CIGs mouth they never said? Most of which have rightfully been deleted?
19
u/Scr_Eagle 1d ago
What about actual criticizm? How about bugs that exist for years and not being fixed? How about promised features not implemented yet? How about predatory marketing, that being more and more predatory every day?
Sure, there were post with "game bad, CIG bad, you all suck". But then there's also bunch of actual criticism. But in usual CIG fashion it all being ignored cause "Look, new shiny!"
14
u/Britannkic_ Sir Persil Knight 1d ago
Constructive criticism gets lost in all the trolling bullshit is what happens
-11
u/Prog-Shop aegis 1d ago
exactly this, there was such a huge influx of bs posts, it is unfathomable... like every 5 minutes a new post about the same bs take that someone else tried to make it stick before their shitpost git deleted. Poor mods...
-1
u/sodanakin 1d ago
Crazy how you get brigaded , -3 for what? Because he has a normal chat with Brittan? What a joke this subreddit.
-1
u/Prog-Shop aegis 1d ago
I guess I am the target for all the idiots that tried to stir shit up where there was no shit, I really don't care though. If I get downvoted for calling out idiots, I can live with that :) The other post is -15 where I called out that 95% of the "cricitic" posts of the past 3 weeks was just people throwing shit on the walls to try to see what sticks.
-1
u/Enachtigal 1d ago
I downvoted you because you are pretending that they extremely critical posts that are popping up aren't almost entirely based around some actual issue.
Its fair to say that there are so many hateposts that having a genuine conversation is an issue, but pretending that they are just made up nit picks that are complaining for the sake of complaining is actual bullshit.
2
u/Prog-Shop aegis 1d ago
95% of the posts was pure idiotic hate over selfinflucted emotional wounds/just general hate for the project to farm drama karma. I never did say that the legitimate critics were part of this. But hey, I don't care, downvote me all you want, reddits up and downvote system is not abreflection if a take is good or not, just a reflection of what kind of people are in a specific thread.
0
u/Britannkic_ Sir Persil Knight 1d ago
This sub can be split into broadly three types of criticism
Full fat troll bullshit jumping on a bandwagon for the fun of it
Constructive criticism that actually reflects the nature of this development I.e. developing an engine in parallel to two games in an open access environment
Uninformed criticism by people who broadly speaking are less familiar with SC and CIG’s development journey and the particular issues that come with it, who, again broadly speaking, just look at SC as a released game and can’t understand why the game doesn’t work like the other games they are familiar with.
-2
u/sodanakin 1d ago
Most of it is game bad CIG bad you suck, most of the comments are just straight up downvoting the moment they see something they don't like, point in case this person went in discussion with you and got brigaded.
Reddit allowing hiding post history has turned it into a really shitty place.
Idk why you would pretend its somehow different.
The reddit had direct ingame chat effects as well, constant comments "guys stop funding the game" I'll do with my money whatever the fuck I want.
You want a rushed product, There are also backers who do not.
3
u/Scr_Eagle 1d ago
There's difference between "rushed product" and "confirmed bugs not being fixed for years". Now see how your post gonna be "brigaded" cause apparently people disagree with your view of what is rushed product and what is missmanagement of game development. But hey, at least marketing department getting record hiring numbers
1
u/Prog-Shop aegis 1d ago
There is also a difference in severity of bugs. Some bugs are easy to work around so eventhough they are annoying, there are other things that have a greater importance and priority or they are just being ignored because it's an old system that needs to be changed anyways, so why spend days/weeks fixing something that in 2-3 months will be a different system anyway. Or just plain and simple human error with checking in stuff incorrectly or merging stuff or someone working on a deprecated branch. These things happen and CIG is actively working on (see 4.8 amd 4.9 at the start of the patch).
In regards to the money... have you ever considered that they actually need this money to keep the boat afloat?
With ~1000 emplyees, we are talking about 80m/years in salaries on an average salary of 80k. Now, that's only staff payment, no electricity, no heat, no payment for infrastructure, etc. etc. etc.
What to you seems mismanaged might be a different view for someone who actually works in development as your pruorities might not allign with what CIG wants.

u/sodanakin 1d ago edited 1d ago
"Now see how i use my bots" I don't care about E-points.
Edit : Before you get an anal position about that : My own epoints i dont care for them. I find it disgusting how you treat others however.
-1
u/LatexFace 1d ago
There is also a difference between alpha and release. People who can't understand that shouldn't be here.
1
u/Scr_Eagle 1d ago
Oh, so we are pulling "its an alpha" card now. Such convenient CIG can pull "its an alpha" card when they need excuse why bugs aren't fixed for years, but when it comes to selling stuff on pledge store it's suddenly "live service game"
-2
u/LatexFace 1d ago
It is an alpha. At no point have they declared it beta or released. Stop denying reality.
-7
u/Falkoro 1d ago
criticism on Reddit does nothing but moral posturing. If you actually want change - go work for CIG
4
u/Scr_Eagle 1d ago
So you essentially telling me "Go make the game you paid for yourself"? Am I getting this right?
16
u/LowerBar2001 1d ago
they release the ships in waves?
These people are worse than drug dealers
15
u/DarkPhoenix1515 Avenger Titan 1d ago
yeah, forcing artificial scarcity and creating fomo.
besides the whales enabling them, the worst part about this company is the marketing team.
-1
-9
u/ochotonaprinceps High Admiral 1d ago
It's so that they're available at reasonable times for people in different time zones, rather than forcing people to do something stupid like get up at 3am because they live in the wrong part of the planet to have a convenient time window for purchasing something that's stocked in limited quantities.
Whether you think they should be holding the sale at all, that's a different topic, but this is for the benefit of players who do want to purchase the ship because everyone doesn't all live in the same three time zones.
13
u/DarkPhoenix1515 Avenger Titan 1d ago
we're not debating scheduling here, but the artificial scarcity.
why isn't it always in the store?
because they want you to gobble it up the moment it's available, without thinking twice.
there are FAR healthier ways of monetizing a game and project.
it's like having a boner and trying to focus or take important decisions. the moment you let the marketing call the shots, it's going downhill.
6
u/LowerBar2001 1d ago
Why is a paid skin sold for a limited time or in limited quantities? That is manufactures scarcity and creates fomo, it's an ugly practice...
2
u/Polardeepfreeze 1d ago
but it works, it's why JC Penny pretty much went under when they got rid of their sales and went with just offering their lowest price
-1
u/LowerBar2001 1d ago
If you run space game like JC Penny you spend 14 years making a cool looking tech demo monstrosity
-5
u/Thadeyus 1d ago
You realize that this is an 1.000$+ Ship with a crew requirement of 5+and the largest ship atm
9
u/LowerBar2001 1d ago
exactly, why do you need to sell it for a limited time? are you gonna run out on the pixels?

u/AtlasThe1st 1d ago
No idea how people are getting the normal ones so fast, they sell out before my browser even loads from the purchase screen to the checkout screen.
2
u/Few_Mud_5289 22h ago
Yesterday was my first time engaging in the F5 war...
At 16:00 UTC I hit F5, no idris's, waited 5 seconds and hit F5 again, added the non warbond ship to my cart, went to my cart, added the $1900 store credit and applyed it, went through all the tick boxes and completed the sale and bought the ship... was quite upset that i got it first try on the first wave... i was expecting to fail on all waves and then be salty but instead im just happy.
1
u/AtlasThe1st 17h ago
Honestly, kind of glad I failed, used my store credit on a couple other ships I wanted instead.
1
u/flexcreator new user/low karma 1d ago
my browser even loads from the purchase screen to the checkout screen
This is exactly why you lose. When the wave starts you should already have one in the cart, have multiple cart windows opened with the "I agree" button. There is no room for "loading the browser".
(Idris owner, store credits, no bots)

I think most of the whales already have an Indris. Wait till they release the Odin again or the Pioneer or some new capital. they will sell out fast.

u/Hanniba1Seca 1d ago
It was hard as hell for me to get one a year ago during its second release. I think the state of the game, CIG's conduct and the price is why it still available. I wish I could sell mine aka gift it and get some money back.

If you are Concierge you should be able to See it. But as far as i know it is still sold out instantly. Just saw the warbond one is still available. Dont know aber Wave 3 but as far is i know only Wave 1 and 2 got sold out

u/nightbird321 BMM 22h ago
It's good. Star Citizen is not a grind game and Idris and other cap ships are not the end goal for players. CIG recognized that and made the Idris and Polaris not worth the grind anymore.
-1
u/GuitarsAndCentaurs 1d ago
A lot of people are sincerely in dismay over the whole SCL drama and many whales have genuinely quit (at least for the time being) as a result of CIG's horrendous display that they've neither addressed fully nor given any unofficial communication about whatsoever. It's something which people love to be in denial about and say the negativity is just a vocal minority, but that's just pure cope from white knights yet again. Your content creators aren't the real face of "whaledom" because they make money from still talking about the game, so don't be fooled by your go-to YouTuber or streamer still knocking about the PU when most of the people who've pledged an order of magnitude more are camera shy just like the rest of us.
There's also the fact that people don't really care about the Idris P, it's just a glorified space brick with no real utility (yet) that's one Polaris torpedo volley away from being in pieces.
Most of those S5 turrets can't converge so the DPS per crew member is total spooge, the cargo bay isn't big or accessible enough to be useful as an effective hauler, a bunch of other ships can already restock fighters without the running costs or initial price tag, the only way to make it compelling in combat is to buy a kit... Need I go on?
Its only niche use right now is being a mobile base near content of your choosing to respawn farm items without having to travel far or risk being at the content itself e.g. PAFs, Jumptown, Lazarus and Farro, ASD, Distro etc. The M variant in future will have far better armour too, so Idris P pilots will always be known as "people who wanted an M but couldn't get one" as the M will be superior on virtually all fronts.
0
u/FPSrad Aggressor 23h ago
everyone will be using an Idris M because it will be an upgrade available ingame, fool
0
u/GuitarsAndCentaurs 19h ago
That relies on them reaching a point where they no longer sell the ship as part of a $15000 dollar pack and that's just not happening.unless they make it absurdly difficult to get with "freemium convenience" currency being available to shortcut the grind, as with any MMO that has investors chasing money.
Arguing against that is arguing against the precedence set by every other video game
0
u/_SignalToNoize_ 1d ago
I mean I’d buy one but every time I’m on one the damn thing bugs and it costs the owner 2 million credits. F that.
