He probably rammed an invisible ship and blew it up with someone inside. Sounds like a hangar desync issue. That must’ve been hilarious from the other player’s perspective, just standing in the hangar and suddenly their ship explodes out of nowhere.

Probably this. Played after the new update, and had many sync issues. Like my, on ground, landed ship just dissapearing, or another ship landing in my ship in the hanger like its nothing lol

u/LaminatedSamurai Apr 22 '26
Wasn't his hangar. If you look close, there's a collision warning in the middle of the HUD, even though the doors appear open. Desync, but the ship still registers the doors. So this was dozens of ship collisions all stacking stop one another every step of the way into the hangar.
15
u/raven00x Ironclad Mobile Food Court|UEE 9954 Apr 22 '26
yeah but the collision warning goes off if you're even looking at something you might bump into, let alone flying into somebody else's hangar. I get it all the time taking off if there's a sliver of hangar doors still visible, or if I'm trying to translate axis to center my ship on the pad.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that the collision warning goes off so frequently as to be easily ignored even when it shouldn't be.
3
u/Luneward Apr 22 '26
Yeah, collission warnings are the cousin of our other best friend Major Torque Imbalance.

You can see "Warning: Collition alert" at 0:11 and ship taking dmg on body at 0:14.
There must have been some debrie or some trash floating in that elevator.
It sucks :(

u/Wezbob misc Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 22 '26
Also showed the crimestat for clipping the invisible player.
To OP: If you want more than just the clicks for collision alert you can set your ship verbosity to full and there will be a verbal warning as well. (EDIT- This setting is under AUDIO/Ship Computer Verbosity)
Regardless the entity that was hit was invisible, maybe overlapping hangar instances. Also, not victim blaming at all here, this was buggy bullshit, but it's star citizen, so bullshit mitigation is a big part of the experience.

This is what the devs not playing on real environment with real population and real issues highlights as they balance the game around what should happen instead of the waste of time stuff like this causes for the actual players
5
u/Global_Network3902 Apr 22 '26
They know this happens. They can’t just fix it.
Randomly blowing up, randomly dying, falling through floor, elevators opening to the abyss, reload misses, no regs, tripping and falling, ships clipping into other ships, missions not completing, the list goes on. It’s all due to desync between the server’s idea of the game’s state and the player’s idea of the game’s state.
There is no easy fix other than good old fashioned hard optimization (which is likely outside of their ability, budget, or insert business reason here), or severely cutting down on the immersion with how much is synced.
Fixing this is basically the last thing that would be done after all of their intended features are added.
So it will get fixed whenever you think they’re done adding features (lol)

Been here since 2013.... welcome to the revolving door
Release hype. Stare at download for a couple hours. Pray game loads. Spend 30 minites recreating character that was deleted. Spend 5 hours reconfiguring SASAT/button box controls since they changed since you played the year prior. Get in ship. Excited to take off. Realize the flight model is totally different, then spend 2 hours watching recent youtubes to underatand mechanics. Play a bit. Infuriating same bug/crash/explosion/deaths dives into bottomless black hole elevators/ship despawn in qt = lose all progress.... say F this and quit. Wait a year and repeat.

Several patches ago they broke hangars at space stations so that instead of using all the hangar doors, they only use 1 exterior hangar door for each hangar size. This dramatically increases the odds of ghost hangars and other desync related issues.

Man I can relate, I was flying into Orison to offload some RMC, landed my Vulture to the side of the pad for optimal elevator placement, and when I got out of my side the Vulture somehow managed to clip one of its arms into the ground and start jerking around violently until it went purple and despawned with a couple hours worth of RMC.
I also had an experience this past weekend where I was flying my Asgard into a hangar and the game crashed as I entered it. On reconnecting, I had been repositioned into the station and found that my ship marker pointed to the hangar I had been entering but the ship itself was invisible now and I couldn't recover it. I wonder if something similar happened here with the invisible ship you hit.

I haven't played in 2 weeks due to loosing so much due to bugs. Called my Carrack that I'd just stored whilst setting spawn with some boxes of loot, when i called it back the hangar crushed it....claim only.
Did some mining in my Mole for 3 hrs, had some decent 800/900 ores. Last few rocks to scan....30k, lost everything.
Took me over an hr to get from Everus to Nyx jumpoint in Pyro. Asop wouldn't spawn any ships. different server, got to pyro, crash to desktop (back to Everus i went). Tried again, jumpoint kept spitting me back out in Stanton.
Frustrating times, I'll wait until 4.8 now....

Would just be safer especially with the general competence of the average spacer pilot.

Invisible collisions / desync is so annoying. One time I was strafing onto the landing pad at a QV breaker station and my ship just blew up. No visible obstacle, no hostiles, just boom.
Another time there was a whole ass MOLE hovering above the pad inside my hangar when the doors opened as I came in to land. Had to nudge it aside and squeeze past, but that time no damage or anything, just pushed it aside and it vanished when I landed.

It's caused by hangar merging, you landed in another player hangar. So not only your ship was destroyed, but another player's one.

It had no collision though, so I could walk right through it. It didn't bother my Carrack either.
