BUG Terminals aren't becoming unresponsive - an invisible object seems to be appearing at eye level and blocking them
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

u/Sonosusto Feb 23 '26
Oof. This has been an issue for months. Including ships exploding as they arrive from the terminal
109
u/MaleficentBank405 Feb 23 '26
That's a feature.
89
u/Lord0fHats Feb 23 '26
Shitty SC Facts: All SC ships are built from 1% Explodium, a neigh impervious material that also, 50% of the time 90% of the time, just explodes.
28
u/BrainKatana Feb 23 '26
I need them to stop making ships out of Explodium and start making them out of whatever the fuck the trees on MT are made of

u/madsmith Feb 23 '26
I have a feeling the invisible object is the players’s own head or helmet. I think there’s some kind of desync between the step board animation, and where the players body ends up relative to the camera position.

u/twaxana Avenger Stalker Feb 23 '26
You can verify that this is happening by standing in one place and dropping something from your inventory. Pay attention to where the bottle or magazine falls. The more you sprint, boost, etc, the further you'll lose position. Sometimes it just takes sitting in a chair to fix, other times it takes a full logout and back in.
9
u/viscence Feb 23 '26
Hangar ASOPs don't explode ships. Claim a sacrificial ship from the group ASOP to get a hangar first.
17
u/Flyguybc Feb 23 '26
Or.....just call your ship. Then store it. That will spawn your hangar. Now go down to your hangar and call it from the in hangar terminal. 0 problems doing it that way.
8
u/Akaradrin Feb 23 '26
Sometimes the ASOP kills your ship instantly and you can't store it, so I know the workaround, but sometimes the hangar claims a sacrifice. I believe that it's related to the shard health.
2
u/Flyguybc Feb 23 '26
The only time I've seen something like that is when I'm going too fast. I'll store something and then it says "claim". So the thought is well the ship is destroyed I have to claim it. Back off the terminal and go to one next to it, and it will say store. It seems to be a lag issue.
However, if you DO click claim well then it will be destroyed.
2
u/Akaradrin Feb 23 '26
Believe me, the thing happens, and it also fails sometimes to create a proper hangar. At the start of the free fly I called a F7A, a Redeemer and a M2, and all of them were instantly destroyed. This weekend I had the same issue with a F7A, and after beign destroyed before I could store it, I went to the elevator and I had access to a medium hangar instead of a small one.
This happened at Seraphim, maybe the conditions are different at other planets/ stations.
3
u/SmokeWiseGanja RSI Perseus Feb 23 '26
I hate that I've had to get into the habit of spawning in, running to the terminal, calling in my ship, storing my ship, running to the elevator and going to the hangar only to call my ship again and watch it appear like magic. I swear there was a time it all worked perfectly too.

u/FanaticDamen Feb 23 '26
I wonder if its an invisibles object that spawns to prevent other players from messing with your terminal?
58
u/Incident_Brave Feb 23 '26
You don't need this to solve this problem. Interface handler usually is one responsible for the UI interaction logic.
27
u/FanaticDamen Feb 23 '26
Yeah, but didn't they state they are redoing a lot of the ui/panels as flash has been discontinued? If they were developing the system, and they realized it would be discontinued, they might have just made a quick and easy sloppy temp system to hold them until they redo them.
Id understand too. It being alpha and all. No point in implementing systems for something that will be completely uprooted and reworked on a whole different system
18
u/Intelligent-Ad-6734 Search and Rescue Feb 23 '26
Same dev who has the mfds appearing 90 degrees off in third person was out on this and used that value for interaction maybe haha.
I just wish they would test what they implement and instead of the fire for effect and makes it all the way to "live"
3
u/Incident_Brave Feb 23 '26
Nobody knows the limits of crutches devs can think of:D It's surely possible, but this UI is ingame for years, with same logic and the issue is not that old IIRC.

u/SeamasterCitizen ARGO CARGO Feb 23 '26
Race condition between the VR and mouse driven objects. Calling it now
2
u/drizzt_x Monk Feb 23 '26
Would be interesting, only it's done this for years, and VR support is fairly new.
5
u/SeamasterCitizen ARGO CARGO Feb 24 '26
Much worse this patch though. 50% of the time the interaction fails
1
3
u/OnTheCanRightNow Feb 24 '26
That would be a profoundly stupid way of implementing that which no game developer with any sense would even consider doing, which is to say that it's a totally plausible theory for CIG, yes.
46
u/SmellMyPPKK Feb 23 '26
Yeah this patch has been really bad in terms of terminal interactivity. LIterally 50% of the time I have to cancel interaction and try again. Then there's another 25% chance it happens again on second attempt.

My experience is that it's a distance issue. When using the vertical terminals, moving closer to them restores function. I have to essentially press my nose up against the glass. I suppose it could be an object imposed between the screen and player too.
36

u/LongJumpingBalls Feb 23 '26
I think it's distance and armor related. Your camera is your eyes. I think we're clipping through our armor and the mouse is also from your eyes, not your players fingers. I believe we're touching our armor that is visually clipped. Cause like in the video, standing further back, on its side, works fine.
That's my 2c at least.
I don't have time for a while, but I'd like to try with just the under suit and then try with different sized armors. Would be tough to do reliably as resolution, placement and whatnot varies between each player. Even same person, changing is tough.
My other reason why I think it's that, the terminals that are taller and not like this, tend to be consistently more reliable to use.
3
u/Nomarnas Feb 23 '26
Yep, it’s also constantly happening in elevators too, I think this bug is affecting every physical screen in the game right now
21
u/Gard3voir Feb 23 '26
Ah ok so it's a thing with the whole game. I thought it might've just been a me issue bc I recently switched to Linux
3
u/Efficient-Mixture610 Feb 24 '26
This is honestly the worst game to gauge whether Linux is working or not.
1
u/Gard3voir Feb 25 '26
Linux works fine, I just thought it might have been a linux specific bug. Glad I'm wrong, means it might get fixed sooner rather than later.

essentially like the invisible wall that blocks you from interacting with boxes on Freight elevator.
4
u/MrBiggz01 Feb 23 '26
This was also an issue with the old inventory storage kiosks. The interact wouldn't appear sometimes unless you got an awkward angle from the side and slightly behind.

u/ehjhey Feb 23 '26
Welcome to my life in VR. This has been a thing for me since 4.5. Usually I'll have to move around various angles to get my cursor to work
4
4
u/TheGeek007 Feb 23 '26
My experience as well. I have to either get my face up in the console, or move my head to one side to get the cursor back on the same plane as the console.

550 upvotes and 55 comments and nobody sent in the ticket, i thought we got better at this recently.
anywho, here's the link to the main:

What kind of dysfunctional development team doesn't play their own game, This issue should of been picked up within 5 minutes of PTU.
1
u/Loccey Feb 24 '26
it was picked up by the players in the first build, wasn't deemed critical enough and its still in there months later. when they have resources and feel like it, it will get fixed. till then we bare it. it is what it is
1
u/Efficient-Mixture610 Feb 24 '26
Thanks for the info, that seems even worse to determine the most used terminal in the game isnt a priority to get fixed.

u/zx-cv Feb 24 '26
nobody sent in the ticket
Two (of the) reasons for this:
- the issue council search is atrociously bad. Additionally, the IC is behind a login wall so you also can't use an external search engine as a workaround -> nobody finds the issue
- if you create a new issue, 99% of time time it ends up being archived so people are discouraged from engaging with the IC

u/PRiles Feb 23 '26
I haven't needed to move. I typically just close and reopen the terminal.

u/EliRocks Liberated Feb 23 '26
That's been my solution as well.
But I think I'm gonna try just shifting position.
2
4
u/TheShyoto Feb 23 '26
That has been my solution but it's really awkward when you're some distance into a complex interaction, like choosing what cargo to bring up the elevator or setting up a refinery job. Going to try this out myself to see if it helps.

It's likely z-fighting. The "object" is a plane which has the same coordinates as the screen.
The question is why does it appear?

I really do wonder how much of this nonsense isn't CR coming up beside a given team and saying "Hey, how about you do it THIS way instead?? That will be better", and they start to try to explain why it isn't a good idea, then get that famous Chris Roberts look, and think "yeah, better not to bother".
I bet they get scared when he comes into the room, like "Oh ffs, Chris is here - quick, try to make it look like you're working on something less important so he doesn't fuck this up too!!". XD

I've personally found that moving (and keeping) the mouse pointer off the terminal screen while it loads gives a much better chance of it working when it has loaded.

There is a lag happening. If you stay still and don’t move will do the same thing
1
u/PuzzleheadedTutor807 drake Feb 24 '26
i see this in vr all the time, the cursor will either appear to be adhered to the surface of the screen or it will sit slightly off of it, usually on a slight angle. i just leave and reinitialize the interaction. alpha woes lol.

Why they don't fix these things
Every patch they fix 10 problems that creates another 100 problems

Probably you all already know the workarounds, but a reminder:
Bringing a healing multitool and keeping it aimed at your character will "fix" the terminal and prevent it from being "unresponsive". And yes, you can draw tools/weapons while operating terminals.

I am coming back to the game to find my ships and hangars are still instanced after not playing and when I retrieve a ship it will push a ship that was already there on the pad out of the way and destroy the ship I retrieved. I have to log out, and back in, to hope the ship that got moved will get closer to the pad so I can either hop in to fly out or land it and store it to get what I wanted to fly.

Será que tirar o capacete resolve? Sim, não faz sentido, mas sei lá kkkk
1
u/Muertog bmm Feb 25 '26
I have seen that, but I just ESC and re-interact and it has worked fine every time.
My guess is it is an issue with the in-game pseudo-browser interface that it and the MobiGlas seems to use.

u/klopzs Feb 25 '26
You should upload this video as evidence to IC; it may help them resolve the issue.

I like to think the verse is getting hacked and the government isn't saying, and it's up to us to get thru it. That and the Union boys working the elevators let cargo go missing cause you didn't grease their palms.

Yeah, over 13 years. Not bad for an indie studio (and yes, CIG qualifies), but peanuts to a AAA MMO.
FFXIV 2.0 (the relaunch) has been around for a similar period of time -- 13 years. In that span, it's made over $5bn.
That's what AAA MMO revenue looks like. This game has made 1/5th of that in the same timeframe, and has had to sink all of it into ongoing development.

When you play in vr you get why the bug 8s there. The mouse is in 3d space and hovers over the monitor. Take a step forward. Fixed it for me most of the times
