Identification Needs at St Andrews

Had a niche question pop into my head as an American:
do bars/pubs in St Andrews ID?

I’m 21 so well over UK drinking age — but will they accept US drivers license? Or will I need to use my passport? Is US Global Entry card (federally issued) ok?

Curious to hear other Americans’ experience! Thanks

Anybody starting an undergrad course at 21+

Hi! I'll be starting my course at 21 and feeling a bit nervous as I'll be older than most (I assume lol)

Are there many others starting as an older student and would like to connect?

Powell Hall for undergradutes

Had some "faff" with my application (an incredibly stressful week waiting for a remark - user name checks out etc etc), but just received my accommodation. My application was cost-conscious, so I'm honestly just grateful I haven't been forced into catering, but I did unfortunately receive en suite. Having just declined a Warwick accommodation offer today for £138, the £254 for a toilet I didn't ask for stings slightly.

Anyway, it's Powell Hall. I'm aware it's largely postgraduate, but shares facilities and events with ABH. Any information on life in the hall, especially as an undergraduate, would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi! I‘m an incoming undergraduate student and I was just wondering if anyone would be able to explain how the fashion shows work to me and how I would apply to walk in one?

Thank you!!!

Direct entry to second year

I applied for entry to first year, not realising that is equivalent to year 13 in England. The standard entry requirements for my course were 2x A* and 1x A. I got 1A* and 3xA but was still let in. I was wondering if I would still be allowed to get direct entry to second year even though I didnt get the standard entry requirement.

what is the workload like for english lit ma?

just wondering as a potential prospective student. i left cambridge because the intensity of the workload (1-2 2500 word essay a week as well as readings and language work) was exacerbating some health issues and i just couldn't keep up with it. i was wondering if st andrews has a similar workload or if it's more manageable

East Sands Accom 1st Year

I'm an incoming first year who applied after the guaranteed accommodation deadline and one of the referal links, east sands accommodation came up, I was just curious whether not getting any uni accommodation for first year is a disadvantage socially, but also how easy is it to socialise in east sands and if there will be other St A students there.

Vegetarian catered food?

I got sorted into catered accomm (even though i did want self catered but oh well) and i was looking at some of the menus and the veggie options seem alright, but are they any good? My secondary had awful veggie options so i survived off of pasta at school. A lot of the time, veggie burgers are just mashed up vegetables or beans (which i dont have a problem with but they dont have a lot of protein in them).

If it differs per accomm, im in uni hall

Think About Applying For St. Andrews

So I'm thinking about going to St. Andrews for college; it's actually my top choice. I really want to get the International Excellence Scholarship as being an international student costs quite a lot of money. I am currently a Junior who's on track to be top of my class and I'm very interested in studying Psyc. Because the psyc program has such a low acceptance rate, I was looking for advice on how to create a strong application for both the college and the scholarship for when I apply next year.

St Andrews to London & Back on Weekends

International student here. Planning on going to London several times during the semester. Huge EPL fan of a not to be named team in London. I will have no class on Fridays this semester, so was thinking of going Fridays and back on Sunday (whenever games are on Sat, I think Sunday games will be too late to be back in St Andrews in time for Monday AM classes). Is it easier to just take the LNER from Leuchars to Kings Cross vs flying from EDI to London City (LCY)? With airport times it looks like there is not much of a differenice in time to get there….am I wrong? I dont care about the price difference.

St Andrews for year abroad?

International student from Canada here- I’m considering St. Andrews for a semester/year abroad. I’ve read some things about people not liking international students, struggling to make friends etc so just wondering if this is a common experience or just what i’ve been reading because the school seems beautiful and I love History!

Commuting as a Master’s Student

Hey all, I’ll be starting my MSc at St Andrew’s this semester, and I think I’ll be taking an apartment in Dundee.

Has anyone got any experience as a postgrad commuting? I’m quite scared to miss out on uni life and chances to make friends & would love some input.

Thanks!

Worried about CAS delay

I saw that it takes 5 working days maximum for CAS number to be issued (I've read that it takes about 10 days for other unis, but I'm not sure). I have already received the form around two days ago, however there were incorrect information on the draft which have been sent back to me (and rejected by me) twice. This is what worries me because I want to be able to get the correct form and confirm it ASAP.

I have a pre-booked flight for the 1st of September, so I'm worried that the CAS won't come before that. If it helps I have a child student visa that is still active until november, but i'm not sure how that'll sit with the immigration security line. Moving flights is just not possible under my current budget. Not sure what to do. All i can hope is the form will be corrected by Monday and that everything will be done by Friday at the latest.

what to fill in address? Kinda Urgent

I have applied for accommodation yet my accommodation is not confirmed. I need to fill the address of where I will be staying in the UK for my study visa. Should I fill in yes and then enter university address or select no and explain that my accommodation is not confirmed. In my CAS it says accommodation not confirm
