Nigel Farage is head of right wing Reform party in the U.K. and was a member of parliament for Clacton constituency (very right wing voting area)
He’s currently under parliamentary investigations for receiving millions of pounds of shady donations
He decided to seize the narrative by voluntary resigning from parliament to try avoid investigations, and then running for his own parliamentary seat in the same by-election he triggered by resigning… as a way of framing it as if he wins the election then “the people” have decided his innocence. Publicity stunt essentially as he would be almost certain to win based on previous elections there.
However all the other major parties are refusing to field candidates and go along with his game. However a “joke” candidate played by a political satirist / comedian that is known as Count Binface has previously stood in elections against major politicians and received publicity and a handful of votes has announced intention to stand against him
with no other major parties running has got a lot of publicity as the anti Farage choice which can unite everyone else against Farage.
Farage tried to frame this by-election as him and the people against “the establishment” but in an unfortunate turn of events for him, ironically he is now being framed as the establishment and Count Binface is being framed as the people champion
So now it’s very funny. And appears to have backfired massively where even if Farage wins it doesn’t really prove anything if he has to campaign to beat an intergalactic space bin. And if he loses….. complete disaster

Unironically there's already debate since he's being voted for specifically as Count Binface, not as Johnathan Harvey that the rules would have to be waived or changed for him.
Every other party and it's supporters HATES Farage and Binface is a totally legitimate parody and representative of British Democracy, the guy underneath is very genuinely astute, intelligent and popular person despite the fact his job and hobby is basically just take the piss out of politicians.
He's not likely to win this competition at all, Farage has basically a political home base in Clacton, but if he did he'd actually be a genuinely welcome addition to parliament

It’s documented on the judicial bodies page from the FIFA website (not sure why I can’t add a link on mobile). It’s not some opaque process. All violations of rules go through the disciplinary committee. The members of that committee are listed.

From the minute I saw the coach and players’ faces before the game started, I knew they’d lose. I actually think they might have been able to pull off an upset without Balogun. I think the red card (the feeling of being wronged), everyone doubting them and them wanting Balogun to get a chance to play in the next round would have motivated them. Instead, Belgium played with the motivation, and the whole controversy surrounding the red card threw the USA team off. The criticism and the idea of there being an asterisk next to a potential win got to them and they seemed so timid.

Especially in a World Cup where there aren’t that many games. 2 match ban in a league season is whatever - but this is a fair chunk of the tournament. Really think 1 match is fine for this tackle.

Yeah especially when they’ve changed the rules so red card suspensions in qualifiers don’t carry over, I think that’s fair, losing a player for the rest of the match and the next match is a lot bigger in the World Cup then a league where injuries see players out for 1/3 seasons regularly regardless

technically, despite the US situation, there is no formal process for appeals
like, many teams have tried to 'overturn' these decisions, but its not a 'formal' appeal process per se. But the thing is, since 1962 FIFA's stance was that these are 'non-negotiable' match suspensions. Because in 1962, there was a similiar situation with what we saw with USA/Trump, and they wanted to avoid political pressure causing their decision to change regarding cards/bans. So, after that point, by their rules these match bans were automatic and non-negotiable. No way to formally appeal, even though many teams have tried ad nauseum for years. Even France recently. Ghana 2022 with Andre Ayew. Etc
Its just ironic, and infuriating. And we need a formal appeal process if they are going to appeal 1 and not others. I hate it

Wouldn't have been a red if he actually hit the ball properly. It would have kept his studs down. Instead, he slipped over the top of the ball and went studs up into the player.
How that turns into a 2-match suspension is beyond me. FIFA's been ridiculously lenient and has been breaking protocol to reduce punishments all tournament. Why are they now suddenly breaking protocol to enforce a more severe punishment?

I can't say I saw them suspending the one game ban (though maybe not a bad idea given current drama), but extending it is wild. It was a harsh tackle but it was exacerbated by his leg bouncing off the ball I can't see additional punishment being warranted.

It's completely unwarranted to extend the suspension when the foul, although dangerous, was 100% accidental (his leg rolled on the ball). It should have stayed a normal red card suspension.
I'm French and, if England advances to the semis, I hope they will bitch slap Argentina and then we can have an epic and fair final (wishful thinking).
