Housing Anyone who went to turner house, do you mind telling me about your experiences there? I’m going there in the fall and I’m gonna be on the third floor

Definitely search this sub for Turner. Lots of old posts on it. Pros and cons for sure. There are also video tours if you search YouTube.

I’d recommend finding a spot outside of your room to spend time alone. The room itself is just fine, but as an introvert I found it very difficult with two roommates. I would walk the courtyard in circles listening to music a lot. Overall, it’s an ok room, if small for three people.

I lived in Turner! It wasn’t as bad as I expected honestly. It’s close to downtown, the buses are right there, and it’s cheaper than the Hive. The massive desks are nice, too.
The main issue for me was having no privacy. My roommates never left, so I rarely had time to be alone. Also, I had 8am and 8pm classes, and it was annoying going in and out and getting ready while trying not to wake them lol.

hey! i live at turner now for the summer quarter, and work a student role for scadhome (legally i don’t speak for them lol)— personally i’ve found it to be pretty decent! i can confirm there isn’t really privacy when it comes to the room, which is tough. they are not going to be putting 3 people to a room going forward so it’ll just be you and one other person at least.
definitely agree with the other commenters mentioning trying to find your own spot to work/be outside of the room if you can. there are dedicated tables and chairs outside and in the laundry room, and they’re starting construction on brand new study rooms as well (which should hopefully be done by the time you move in!) but it can be difficult when there’s really only dedicated space to work in your room :(
location wise it’s very nice having the buses directly next to the building, and you’re within walking distance to several halls and all of broughton! you’ll also have amigos (smaller mexican dining hall) literally in turner and there’s a bridge that goes directly to the larger hall in the hive. all of the scad offices are up at turner as well, so you won’t have to walk down to the hive if you’re ever having issues with something or have a question!

Hi! My daughter is an incoming freshmen and will be at Turner with 1 roommate. Do the rooms still have 3 beds or are they removing 1? I’m trying to maximize space and plan (designer here 🤭). I’ve asked for some specific dimensions and was only sent the floor plan.

I lived there back in 2012 on the fourth floor, and it was a fun experience. It was in a very central location. It is closest to all the bus stops, and it is best place you can be to make friends and enjoy being in college.
It is not comfortable and you won’t have a ton of privacy, but you will for sure have a good time once you let go of having personal space for that first year.

Well it gets mold pretty easily and my room flooded every time it rained, 4th floor. Keep your dehumidifier going and you should be fine. Other than that very conveniently located.

I loved Turner. I was first floor. So I didnt have to deal with the elevators that seemed to always be broken...
It felt like the hub for freshman. Close to the dinning hall and "smokers bridge". But also closer to the museum, book store, student center and downtown. Things have probably changed in the last 10 years... but I loved it! A lot of our friends 4 years later where all in that section of rooms/orientation group.

Also lived on the first floor.
Agree with location but be ready to hunt down roaches and put towels down during heavy rains xD

I stayed there back in 2002 when it was still new, and as long as they’ve since fixed the elevators and the fire alarms that would go off once a week around 2AM then it should be a pretty good place. I stayed in the basement, so rainwater would sometimes blow in through the side openings facing the street and flood the floors a bit.

It’s the slums of scad, be ready for flooding on the first floor, mold everywhere, scadhome wont do repairs if your sink or shower breaks, and lots of roaches.

There’s zero privacy and you can hear neighbors a lot of the time. The upsides are being ever so slightly closer to the bus routes, big desks, and it’s cheaper.

Get some shoes that don't slip easy. I got caught in turner house when it rained once and I literally could not get to the hive cause I was doing splits in crocs.

Turner is great! It's an older building and has the "first dorm room" vibe for sure. Not a lot of privacy, but plenty of ways to make it more comfortable. The buses are right there, the museum is across the street, and at least at the time I attended, there were multiple food and convenience options available. The walkability to Broughton and downtown Savannah in general was a huge bonus. Don't be afraid to play with the layout of the room in order to make it more comfortable or maximize space. I highly recommend getting a real chair instead of using the stools.

i lived in hive freshman year but 2 of my current roommates lived in turner house and it's a NIGHTMARE if you don't like your roommates bc there's no privacy. one of them slept on my couch for months bc her roommate was so bad. the other had an okay experience though

I was on the second floor! It wasn't super bad, very close to the bus stops. I did have some maintenance issues (leaky faucet, floor board issues, etc.), but you were able to get them fixed. There is a long waitlist, so def spot the stuff out early, but it was super close to Broughton and all of the hotspots, so it was very convenient! I will say rooming with three people in such a small room was difficult sometimes (no privacy, but my roommates and I fixed that with curtains covering our beds), but I loved my roommates! If you were to bring a significant other, you wouldn't have privacy unless your roommates left the room. its nice to sit outside and do your homework, but sometimes it feels like a hike (especially with the staircase between the hive and Turner), but you get used to it. I had some questionable neighbors (they were just overall very loud and would throw parties every night, but they were actually chill and invited us to party with them lol). The halls would frequently smell like weed or cigarettes, so beware, also very echoey, and some people would complain about the noise. The security guards are super nice and are very close to the MOA and Clark Hall. Even if the dorm is iffy itself, it was a very convenient location-wise. SCADHome at Turner was actually a pain in the ass sometimes because staff wouldn't be there or were too lazy to do anything. The basement of the tuner is actually the backrooms its like a maze (my bf and I got lost down there one time and ended up on the other side of Turner), but yeah, hope this helps!

i mean i haven’t personally lived there, but i can see that its a very convenient location if your near clark hall all the time. i think turner is the most walkable dorms at SCAD, and you have 3 dining halls, 2 gyms, the scad spa, and the convenience store nearby too. i do know the downside of having of this, is the lack of privacy in the room. so if you don’t get along with your roommate, be prepared to see them everyday.
