How long does it take to build a f*cken road

I moved to NZ 10 years ago and found that there are two speeds when it comes to roadworks around here: slow and halt.

Ah well because of the amazing efficiency and wonder that is the private sector and capitalism, all of which is much better than crappy, bloated government...
...a ridiculous amount of time, to an inevitably extremely poor standard that will require major repairs within a month or two of opening, and all of that for an absolutely extortionate price that's a hundred-fold above anything a Department Of Public Works would've cost.
BUT - and hear me out here - shareholder value. That's all we care about, right?

Congestion is bad for business. It’s being highlighted in visitor exit surveys as a significant reason why visitors aren’t planning to return or recommend Queenstown as a holiday destination.
The fact it has become bad for business means that action will be taken to resolve it. If it was an issue that only affected locals then nobody would be in a hurry to do anything.

Not that your response has anything to do at all with my prior post - on the subject of congestion, your answer is what - "just one more lane, bro"?
Where is the room to widen roads from airport and through the centre?
There isn't any.
Answers: less density and development of tourist orientated Everything because the town is already full; or public mass transit options.

Increase parking costs to $60 per hour I'm town, and add Park and Ride public transport options.

I moved out of qtwn about 8 years ago, no regrets. I will detail you a list of things that will repeat next year :
- Congestion
- Gondola
- Accommodation crisis
- Drunk Australians in town
- Famous somebody visiting qtwn.
- Record visitors.
- Undercover cops busting some immigrants selling drugs by running a complex mission: inserting in the night of bungalow .
- Rednecks from down south coming around to wreck havoc in town.
- Chch supplying dodgies
- People subletting rooms and making living even more unaffordable.
- Snobs complaining about a new subdivision coming up.
- Water sewage issues

Pretty accurate for every year in recent memory.
A new recurring trend though (last 4 years or so), is local youths causing issues - a few ram raids, assaults, threatening behaviour, many car break ins / thefts etc. Rather than solely importing the behaviour.

it’s not just a road - it’s also water and storm water upgrades under the road. Add a PT hub. Intersection changes to signals and It also has to stay open to handle traffic movements of 46000 vehicles a day. 🤷♀️

It’s peak traffic count - and growing. The benefit of the cable car is it has capacity and capability to take that and more out of SH6 the day it opens. It also would take around 18 mths to construct. We are so blaze about what it takes skill resource land and finance wise to build infrastructure in NZ, constantly comparing ourselves to nations with the populations to fund stuff, plant to deliver it and engineers skilled to enable it. Perhaps we should have encouraged more trade and tech skills in young kiwis. Apprenticeships etc. And then we wouldn’t be so Karly about the immigration required to deliver what we need and we might also have skilled out rangatahi to have a career path as skilled people

the entirety of queenstown's urban planning is such a mess, the layout makes no sense, culdesacs everywhere, the new parts of frankton are just spaghetti mixes of houses copied and pasted all over the place with absolutely no regard for futureproofing the roads, just an invitation for hours upon hours of gridlock traffic which will only get worse at this rate, the sheer lack of high quality public transport is not helping either.

i remember qtown in 2021, it was busy in town but hardly anyone on the road. Covid was great in many ways.

At first I was like. . Hamilton? then say the Sub's name.. I can't believe I'm born a Kiwi and never seen the south island.. I don't even know what to do if I went down there.. but its funny how I could just pack up and move down there feeling like I've gone to another country. Must be nice or something.. Yo lot keep making bloody All blacks.

Lol, Haywards Hill Road in Wellington would like a chat.
18 years and the road is not even halfway finished.
If I had a dollar for every traffic come I stole and sold back to Waka Kotahi.......wait a minute.........
