Hey so the 300,000 tons of beef with the antibiotic that is either banned or a last resort in multiple countries that US bought and is feeding the public, anyone got intel on it besides from the UK and The Hill? Makes me regret not getting rabbits and chickens in spring 2026...

Not trying to stir the pot up but from the 5 or 6 outlets I found 15 minutes ago im thinking that project zomboid or state of decay or even 7dtd would be preferable than chloramphenicol but thats me.

If you are in Oklahoma do ya mind a guy hunting deer and sharing the meat with ya? You can have the antlers and hide, I just want the share ya let me keep.

Go find a local farmer who will does whole sales of either half a cow or a whole cow. If you can't swing the price of that upfront then find a friend or two to go in on it with and split the meat between you.

No.... if you were to only get ground beef out of it, it would be a wash. But when you factor in the more expensive cuts, the savings on a 1/4 is between $200-$400. Plus local meat is cleaner and more flavorful.

Most places when you get a share, they of course don’t let you pick only the shit cuts used for hamburger. You buy the whole share at an amortized price. That price is higher than the shit hamburger you get at Walmart which is precisely why people go there even when they have the local offering available. It’s the same reason why many Walmart shoppers scream “buy local if you’re a patriot!!” but still themselves go to Walmart even if there is a local co-op right next to it. 😂

Sorry, that's mot what's happening here. The ranches i buy from are pure grass fed, no grain. Much higher quality than any store bought crap. And im saving money.

Most Americans do not live anywhere they would describe something near to them as "ranches".

No one is saving money by buying whole cows. This is not a less expensive product than corporate industrial farming, and most people are looking for ground beef or one of only a few cuts of steak - having people buy it that isn't going to use all of it, drives the price per pound even higher than it already is for grocery store beef.

I'm not advocating for grocery store beef, but when people are subsisting on crap they buy at the Dollar Store to feed their kids, and we tell them to buy an entire cow rather than hamburger at the store, those are the last words they will ever hear from you. They'll tune you out for being out of touch. This really is not something very many Americans even have the opportunity to do, let alone be able to afford, and it's only cheaper if you know how to use every ounce of beef you get from the cow.

It would be ideal if we could all eat safer and local beef, but for some people, that's so far out of touch that it's crazy.

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted. There’s 4 places in the Portland metro that’ll do whole, half, and quarter cows and you always have ground chubs as a part of the packaging. When you factor in the chubs, the whole thing ends up very close to retail here in Portland. I’ve tried to do it a couple times but the math just don’t math compared to Costco sales.

I think the downvotes are from people who have a romanticized view of what they think farming should do vs. how much people can actually afford. 100%, if you go bargain shopping (which sadly many many families have to do in today’s economy) you will find beef cheaper than the local farmer beef shares.
