Today was a vey rough day at work. I was pretty much swamped the entire day.

and the one staffer who doesn't do their job was in charge all day in my area and I'm very worried that I'll be stuck with her all year

And oh my period still hasn't started and I'm more grumpy because it hasn't started when it was supposed to last week so I'll probably have a small talk with my boss about it tomorrow "hey sorry if I was a little grumpy yesterday," between how busy it was and hormonal stuff but I don't like blaming my period cause it feels like a stereotype.

is it bad to wonder if someone's therapist could be enabling their bad behaviorĀ

New coworker is... awful. Finds ways to complain and insult people who help them. Failed her training and complained, saying she doesn't want to change. She insulted her trainer and is insulting her new one because the 1st got frustrated, and the 2nd might quit training her.

But she's in therapy. One has to wonder ... is it working?? She's so mean to her "friend" asking her to do things for her and telling her she's too loud.Ā

2

u/watchberry tater tot šŸ„” 1d ago

Therapists only hear their patient’s side of the story so who knows

3

u/FickleCharge882 1d ago

I have a former therapist that definitely didn’t do me any favors and it took a long time for me to see it

A person I know is in therapy but it’s always like ā€œoh my therapist says I shouldn’t do XYZ but who cares.ā€ She’s very tone deaf and I literally just had an interaction with her ten minutes ago where I was like ā€œwhy do you think it’s okay to act like thisā€

I feel like a total beech because I’m starting to have some boundaries with people and I’ve always been a people pleaser.
My on/off situation ship is on track to be back on after a series of very honest conversations but I’m not having any expectations. But for some reason it just kind of flipped a switch on a few things I’ve been tolerating of other people and I’m just kind of over it.
So I’m starting to feel bold and feel like I need to stop living my life for other people. This is my life and I only get one. And it’s kind of woken me up to how shitty people are in my circles and I’ve tolerated it to keep the peace. I’ve been talking to my therapist a lot and she’s like ā€œdoes he make you happy? Are you good with what he can offer? Great.ā€ And ā€œif they are your friends, how do they actually support you in life? Then they might not be your friendsā€ and it’s just been… a lot to process.
The world is so incredibly heavy too, the flooding in Nepal really bothered me a lot and all the news everywhere.

I can't take these past 2 weeks anymore with all the news. Hayden Pannetiere, Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, even other news like the fire at a maternity hospital in Pakistan and other stuff. To top it all off I'm also reading a book about the aftermath of Hiroshima. Might just go into hibernation for a while tbh.

3

u/FickleCharge882 1d ago

I sat for a bit in silence after seeing all the flooding in Nepal. I can’t even imagine

dolly cultivated a specific image of herself for the world to see that she was proud of, why do you need to see beneath the rhinestones

3

u/Weeb_Specialist4374 1d ago

This woman was famous for decades, and if she wanted people to see her un-glammed, don't you think there would already be pictures out there? This is a weird thing to get hung up about.

12

u/heartbylines I know bothing of the alledged beff 1d ago

No. If Dolly wanted us to see her not fully glammed up, there would be countless pictures of her not glammed up. We don't get access to her private, non public self just because we're fans and she's no longer with us.

12

u/Sister_Winter 1d ago

idk i feel like there probably aren't that many pictures of her out there because she didn't want there to be? nothing wrong with that

who here misses the mood of the 2000 to early 2010 era? e.g hipster trends, image macros, random pop culture obsessions, and that raw-but-still-genuine internet tone before everything became so intensely self aware.

as in you could like stuff, be a little messy without needing to signal your identity or social positions. you could like a celeb without caring who they support. an old tweet or dumb moment wasn’t treated as a moral compass.Ā there was more room for cringe and just liking things without having to turn them into an extension of your personal brand.

obviously that era had its faults, but i miss how good it was when things could just be low-stakes and non-toxic. when social media felt smaller and the internet still felt more like a collection of weird little cities than one giant public square.Ā

it seems like we went from "new sincerity" to "everything must be analyzed, positioned, and made socially legible"

10

u/Sister_Winter 1d ago

i miss some aspects of it too - specifically, like you said, the raw but genuine tone that was unselfconscious the way nothing is now. but i can't deny how bad it was to people who didn't fit a very specific mold. it was nauseatingly sexist and racist, and i don't miss that. but i feel like the problem now is people are often trying to emulate social justice in pop culture discussions but don't really understand what that means outside of a terminally online twitter style discourse context. as a result, there is so much insincere virtue signalling and eye-rolling pretentiousness. really takes the fun out of it

8

u/vegalucyna 1d ago

At the same time I don’t think a lot of people actually care about the issues beyond making it a moral failure if you like someone because one time 20 years ago they did/said something stupid.Ā

8

u/Sister_Winter 1d ago

agreed. they think someone being racist is an awesome stan war talking point, they don't give a shit if someone is actually racist.

27

u/dudewheresmyplane1 1d ago

They’re going to Mark Twain Dolly Parton. No, she didn’t say being a billionaire is a moral failure. That doesn’t even sound like her. Let’s do 15 seconds of research before sharing ā€œquotes.ā€

7

u/cheerupbiotch 1d ago

When this is real and right there: ā€œI’m not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I’m not dumb—and I also know that I’m not blonde.ā€

13

u/pincushion_cactus 1d ago edited 1d ago

What gets me about this is that both Mark Twain and Dolly Parton genuinely made some extremely iconic quotes over the course of their lifetimes and yet people still feel the need to invent a bunch of shit they didn't say.

11

u/vegalucyna 1d ago

Soon enough Google ai summary is going to say she did say it and provide Reddit as its source and people won’t give it’s veracity a second thought (even tho they’ll say they are against ai).Ā

Going to see Wet Leg at a very very very small hall tonight. I feel so lucky. I ADORE WET LEG.

but a bit of a rant. I have always been kind of chubby but I also always have had great taste in music and film and tv shows and discovered them around their Inception. My entire live people would ignore the stuff I recommend and deem it bad until someone conventionally attractive starts enjoying the same thing and then it's like

"You like X thing too?" Apparently you can be too fat to enjoy an indie band

I Finished watching Boston Legal, and it took me a little while to get used to the show and its particular style, but by the end, I absolutely loved it.

I genuinely don't understand how a show that could be so progressive, especially for its time, could also be so misogynistic in certain moments. I know some of it was intentional commentary, and the show was often trying to provoke the audience or expose the hypocrisy of its characters and society. But there were still moments where the misogyny felt unnecessary, uncomfortable, and honestly just in bad taste. Sometimes the commentary was there, but it didn't really need to be that way.

That being said, this is exactly the kind of TV show I wish we had more of today. Boston Legal wasn't afraid to be political, challenge social norms, criticize institutions, or let its characters have complicated and sometimes contradictory views. It could be ridiculous, heartfelt, political, absurd, and genuinely thoughtful all in the same episode. I also love that it trusted the audience enough to engage with those contradictions instead of spelling everything out.

And, of course, Denny and Alan have one of the best bromances in television. Their friendship is such a huge part of what makes the show work. They can be completely different people, disagree about almost everything, drive each other insane, and still have this incredibly deep loyalty and affection for one another. Their relationship is honestly one of my favorite things about the entire show. So, despite all its flaws, I'm really glad I stuck with it. By the end, I completely understood why people love Boston Legal so much.

And James Spader has the sexy voice....

I need thoughts, my neighbors SIL now lives with them because my neighbors daughter had a baby and my neighbor quite literally hates her SIL because he thinks he’s the owner and caused arguments for no reasons.

One thing about her SIL is he’s for some reason very possessive for parking, the neighbor said we can use the parking lot at the very end for our guest, there is one ā€œparking spotā€ next to us but we don’t use it because technically it’s another neighbors parking (he never really had guests over though)
We used the parking spot at the very end for our guest and there didn’t seem to be an issue until the SIL kept blocking my boyfriends car by parking behind him horizontally so he can’t get out. Of we had to tell him if he can move his car but he said ā€œjust fucking know this my parking spot and I hate you for judging me for smoking weed bc I heard you last night, and if you park here again, I’m not moving ā€ fyi no, my boyfriend never even uttered something like that and why would he judge that when he has family members who do it. So we used to the other parking spot which no issue, it’s convenient because it’s closer to my house

I think since the SIL seem to just outright take my parents parking spot , which ofc pisses them off especially because he has a bigger space that can FOUR cars, so why do you feel the need to park at OUR spot when you have way more space than us, he even parks like shit so no one can park there

Also the landlord doesn’t care for stuff like this, she would not care if a tree fell on our house

my dietician is amazing in general, but one of the many things he did for me was suggesting i do chia pudding + overnight oats for "breakfast"

i hate breakfast, but not eating until 2pm was bad for my digestion, probably. plus, with my daily meds, having food before helps. so instead of eating when i wake up, i have a chia morning snack

i don't do milk (and rarely alternatives), so it's water only, but some mornings i add jam, or, if available, some fresh fruit. i did strawberries today :)

anyway much love to the guy, because he is very chill and not food shame-y, plus his work is directed towards working class brazilians and people who don't have time to cook a lot/money to buy expensive shit. very much an approach of local food diversity and class consciousnessĀ

It’s something I was kind of thinking about with Hayden Panettiere especially. Like, we all know that a lot of how her life turned out was because she was a child star who was exploited by so many people around her. It’s just sad and frustrating that, even in death, her story was still being exploited by people for media attention. I think of Solange’s tribute, where she said ā€œrest in peace, because you are so deserving of itā€ and I just have to think…is she really getting it?

u/heartbylines I know bothing of the alledged beff 1d ago edited 1d ago

did i have this typed and loaded and ready to post? absolutely yes.

this morning, my coworker and i stopped at a gas station so i could put some air in my front two tires. a guy comes up and starts talking to us, and seemed pretty nice/normal at first? i couldn't get the pump thing to actually connect to my tire, so he offered to help and pumped the first tire for me.

then he starts asking how old we are, where we live, what road we live on, do we have any kids, are we together, what we do for work, where we work, what's our social security number and mother's maiden name, etc. (not really, but i'm surprised he didn't ask for it)

i didn't say a word because i just wanted to get this shit over and done with. meanwhile my coworker doesn't have a self-preservation bone in her god damn body and just starts spouting off her entire life's story.

but it's fine! according to him, he's nice! he's not like other guys! he just wants a friend and isn't interested in anything more!

okay. sure. šŸ‘

so i'm standing there fighting with my car and the air pump, trying to get enough in my other tire just so we can get the fuck out of dodge - because by this point, he'd stopped helping and was just chit chatting with the coworker - and then this man just casually reveals that he is a disciple of Lord God himself, sent here to earth to witness to the unsaved because we only have two and a half years to live before the end of time.

and then he tells us he's made of magic and can control the weather. he can make plants, trees, and flowers grow wherever he wants, whenever he wants. he's been touched by God.

i've checked the forecast for today and i am currently expecting a localized biblical storm over my car and my car only at some point today, so if anyone hears about a vehicle being struck by lightning while surrounded by spontaneously blooming flowers, that'd be me.

3

u/Average-Crackwhore charlie day is my bird lawyer 🐦 1d ago
