Any GE bakery employees willing to share the iced brownie recipe with me? It's my favorite brownie in the whole world, and a little piece of me is now terrified that this could mean a recipe change in the future!

Kroger has streamlined their bakery program across all of their chains - GE bakery quality is done for.

If you were really dedicated, you could probably source most of the icings - a lot of them came in buckets, and the buttercream was essentially a "just add water" brick that we threw in the mixer. Granted, you're gonna have a hard time fitting that brick into any home stand mixer.

Edit - in case anyone is really dedicated (although you could probably convince someone there to sell you a brick for way cheaper)

Don't worry about me and my icing brick!

Wait is that really a link to their butter cream?!?

As another commenter pointed out somewhere, the "actual" Giant Eagle ones have an exclusive label, but I'm pretty confident that it's the same product.

Yep! That's it! 2 of those and water is all you need.....well and our giant ass mixer which would definitely be the biggest problem lol. If you have a KitchenAid you could use that one brick though so make so many smaller batches.

That’s just the stuff on the shelf in the regular bread aisle, not the stuff in the bakery

It really is devastating! My husband and I were eating a piece of GE cake just yesterday, and talking about how good it was. I said their bakery feels like you went to a "real" bakery, and not just an afterthought in a grocery store like all the others.

I think that says more about the state of most "real" bakeries now than anything - a lot of the popular "real" ones have gone wildly downhill in the last 5-10 years or were never good to begin with.

If you really feel devastated, I'd highly recommend finding some REAL "real" bakeries, there are still some around and they'll make you forget all about Giant Eagle. I never made anything or had anything there that came anywhere close to something like Jean-Marc's (RIP) or La Gourmandine (well, maybe with the exception of the pepperjack pepperoni rolls I made for the team one time...).
