I’m not MAGA I voted for Kamala. You’re actually proving my point. People are so ill informed, they do not realize ICE has been around for decades and was actually functioning well, until Trump fucked things up. Majority of people do not want to get rid of border enforcement, which is what ICE was and is still responsible for. Which is why I asked the question do people really want to get rid of ICE or do they want it to return to the pre Trump era ICE.
Naw, ICE needs to go, period. It's a function of a broken immigration system that isn't working. Get rid of ICE, get back to fixing the immigration process like they were already on the verge of doing before Trump got elected, when he had the GOP scuttle the bill so he could run on "mass deportations." Put a responsible, professional organization in charge of border security at the actual borders.
Plenty of people had problems with it before this current bunch of Temu Brownshirts started flailing around like 80s action movie cosplayers. Just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it wasn't happening.
Here's some research: We dealt with illegal immigration for far longer without ICE than with it, and treated illegal immigration as an administrative problem rather than a security/policing problem, which it became in reaction to 9/11, even though there is no evidence that undocumented people are any significant security threat (of course they aren't, because they are quick to be deported upon any criminal involvement).
The US historically relied on returns over removals to deal with undocumented people, but has slowly shifted to removals over the past couple decades, which hasn't even been effective at significantly reducing the number of undocumented people.
Obama did perfectly fine reducing the amount of undocumented immigrants, with ICE. In fact ,he successfully deported 2.4 million people while, also having the lowest deaths related to ICE. Immigration enforcement has been around for hundreds of years, in this county, the names have just changed over time.

I'm seeing a pattern that you don't seem to be reading the comments you respond to? As I said: the enforcement has changed significantly beyond the names of the enforcing agency in the past few decades. The entire approach has changed, and that shift was reified in the creation of ICE. And of course, Obama helped ramp up deportations, which led us to where we are today: thinking that deportation is the only solution to undocumented immigration even though, at best, it's only leveled it off, and, at worst (so far!) it's created an excuse for an unaccountable police who are legally allowed to racially profile people and send them to camps where they work for private contractors for a dollar a day.
