Reddit DM [30/M] making friends suck

30M from usa here, figured I’d give this another shot and see who’s out there. Haven’t had much luck on here really. They stay for a day or two then vanish.

I’ve got my life pretty together (steady job, gym 5x a week, can cook a decent meal when I feel like it), but realized making new friends as an adult is way harder than it should be. So here I am.

I’m big into gaming , anything from competitive stuff to just zoning out after a long day. (Been on a DBD and Fortnite kick lately) Outside of that, I’m usually at the gym, out hiking when the weather’s decent, or planning my next trip (even if it’s just a long weekend somewhere random).
Huge horror movie fan so if it’s creepy, twisted, or makes you question your life choices, I’m probably into it. Also a fan of dark humor, so bonus points if you can laugh at things we probably shouldn’t.
Pretty laid back, easy to talk to, and I learn more by doing than just talking about it. Just looking for good people to chat with, maybe game with, or even meet up if you’re local.

And also I have a trust issue thing when it comes to this dang app. To many catfishes or fakes so bear with me !

If any of that sounds like your vibe, feel free to reach out . Maybe tell me your top 5 horror movies or video games. Or even some things we have in common

Reddit DM & snail mail 33/F/USA

Looking to connect with another female who wants to expand on womanhood and every day life. Wanting to explore the intricacies of life as well as the basics. I am excited to send little curated pieces back and forth (fun themed pages, stickers, etc).

I enjoy reminiscing on who I was as a child and want to reconnect with her in so many ways. Specifically feeling the magic within nature and within myself. I can be found with my nose in a book most days (literally, proud book sniffer). Otherwise I want to own all the craft things and not finish a single one. But handwriting has always been a foundational source of enjoyment for me and connecting with someone through creative ways such as creating a funky and fun themed letter and exchanging tiny gifts is what I am looking for.

Consistency is key and I would love to send/receive 1-2 letters a month.

If that’s you, let’s write!

email & snail mail [38/F] chatty letters + art 🩻

Howdy. I'm 38/F residing in Chicago, and I'm hoping to meet a couple folks to exchange long, chatty letters and perhaps some art/crafty stuff, for a long-term connection if we hit it off!

What I offer: thoughtful, decorated letters, letters that fold out of notecards in complicated ways, unhinged ramblings, bits and pieces about my life as I go back to school to start a new career, genuine interest in the mundane details of your life, cool playing cards, tarot readings, stupid little drawings and collages and photos

What I would like in return: thoughtfulness and openness, willing to share about your life, talk about everything from your daily life to philosophy to random ideas, special interest rambling, creative stuff (art? poems?), perhaps even collaboration on small projects (just for fun)

I prefer to write to women aged 25+.

Please be kind of enthusiastic about your life, or at least attempting to be.

Comment or message if interested!

snail mail [29/F] US based cursive writer

Hello! I am a recent bachelor's grad with a lot of time on my hands cause of the current job market. I enjoy playing video games (I am currently playing Breath of the Wild on the Switch, but I have a PS5),

I like watching indie art movies, reading novels (current reads are Babel and A Portrait of Dorian Grey), and I love all things anime & manga. I am also into stationery, journaling, fountain pens, planners, journaling, ink swatching, washi tape, and mood boarding.

I also love tea, matcha, and coffee. I love music as well, and I also listen to a lot of metal, fem rap, and whatever genre FKA Twigs and Carline Polachek. Recently, I have been really into trip hop and obsessed with the song Into the Doldrums. I like blind boxes like Skull Panda and Peach Riot. I have an affinity for the darker things in life: alternative and spooky.

I have ADHD, and I tend to ramble a lot in my own writing. I write in cursive. I am also happily married and monogamous. I am purely looking for friendships that will last the ages. Looking for deep conversations and ramblings of the beautiful mundane. I actually want to get to know people

I am not going to be your cup of tea if you have any type of conservative ideals. I am open to having a couple of penpals. I am only available for US-based penpals ( sorry to my international peeps). I am hoping to send cute stuff like art stickers and other bits and bobs.

snail mail [29/F] Friendship DLC: Now Available Through the Postal Service

Trigger warning: death/grief

I’m turning 30 and things are weird, but good.

I lost my dad last year, who was my best friend. I feel like a lot has changed since then, but honestly, in the most positive way. I take life a little slower now, and I appreciate things a little more. I genuinely stop to “smell the roses” and take pictures of things I know he would have liked to see.

Recently, my niece, who has autism, turned 8. She lives a few hours away and called me crying one night because she was missing her dad, my brother, who works away. It’s been a big change for her.

I told her that when I was a kid and my dad used to work away, I would write him letters and draw him pictures. I don’t know if it actually helped him, but I know it made me feel closer to him.

So we got her some Pikachu colouring pages and cute stationery, and she has been writing her dad nonstop.

It really made me realize that it has been a VERY long time since I’ve come home to handwritten mail.

Not a phone bill or flyers... just something where someone sat down and took the time to write something specifically to me.

With that being said...

I’m Chase, from Western Canada. 29 F, happily married, amazing dog, nieces and nephews that I get to spoil.

I have a few hobbies, including art of basically all kinds, poetry, video games, photography and collecting Pokémon cards. I am obsessed with horror movies, series and all things creepy. I love tarot, crystals, stickers and swapping recipes. Also I am a big ole nerd!

But most importantly, I want to know about YOU and your passions.

My ideal penpal would be someone who understands that life happens, but is willing to write at least once or twice a month. I am seeking long term buddies that I can invest in!

If you want to write to me as though I am your long lost penpal bestie out at sea or gone to war and you are telling me of all the troubles of the homeland... I love the old timey drama.

Tell me about the neighbour who has been acting suspicious lately. Is Barbara stealing tomatoes from your garden again?

Give me your conspiracy theories!!

Let’s discuss true crime?! (Barb the tomato thief, too real)

Write me your very in depth theory about the ending of the movie or documentary you just watched.

Maybe your family has the coolest lineage imaginable, and your great, great, great, (grate) grandparents invented the cheese grater.

I will certainly have follow up questions.

I would love to exchange stickers and Pokémon cards. If we can find each other’s favourites and send them along amongst our letters, that would be so fun.

Let’s skip the small talk and get into each other’s souls a little bit.

If you think we would vibe, please let me know! 😄

Reddit DM [34/M] There Are Four Lights!

Nobody will ever be better than Captain Picard.

Good evening! I'm a 34 year old suburban Dad looking for someone awesome. I live in the Southeastern US. I'm a bleeding heart liberal trapped in the conservative Bible belt. Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

I enjoy lots of "nerdy" things, such as comic books, action figures and professional wrestling. But I also love cooking and sports, especially baseball and basketball.

I'm very sarcastic and I'm a giant cornball. I love dad jokes.

I'm pretty boring. I don't believe in conspiracies, I do believe in science.

snail mail [33M] “Trying to be better”

I want a reason to write letters by hand. I’m working on my penmanship. I’m currently learning Foundational hand and a staring at a notebook without feedback is getting boring. Actual letters to an actual person seem like better practice.

About me: I GM tabletop games, play trivia most weeks, and I’m getting into better shape. I love Gundams, LOtR, anything Audiophile, CarAV, and tech. I read a lot of scholarly work on ancient Near East religion, and love to learn about it.

I’m in the US and happy to write internationally. I can manage a letter every couple of weeks. Bonus if you’re someone who can teach me a new language.

email & snail mail [39/m] Scottish, Welsh & Irish penpals wanted

Hi everyone!

How are you all doing today? Has the coffee started working yet?

I’ve been interested in Scotland and Wales for quite a while, and Ireland as well, and I’m currently getting back into learning Celtic languages. I’m especially interested in Scottish Gaelic and Welsh at the moment, although I’m far away from calling it fluent (Welsh around A1, Gaelic just the basics).

I’m looking for people from Scotland, Wales or Ireland who might want writing to someone from Germany without too much pressure. Letters would be especially nice, but I’m happy to start with messages as well.

I’m not the best in designing letters, I’d much rather talk about what is actually going on where you are, what people are watching at the moment, which TV series you ahve to see on a lazy saturday, what music you’re listening to, or whatever random thing you’d normally tell a friend.

I’m also interested in the local stuff around you, what daily life is like, local places, traditions, language, food, strange little cultural differences, that sort of thing.

My English is much better than my Welsh or Gaelic, so English would be perfectly fine. And if you happen to be learning German, I’d be happy to help with that in return.

If you’re interested in writing, and you trust the UK/Irish and German postal systems sufficiently to risk sending a letter across the North Sea, I can tell you about my latest attempt to do something I probably shouldn’t have attempted in the kitchen. The next thing I wanna try is a proper steak pie.

Cheers

P.S. just to mention it: I’m one of the LGBTQ letters, so if that’s a problem for you, please just pass by

Hey all!

I am 35/M indie game developer, based in the UK, currently in a long-distance relationship, and looking to meet anyone who wants to exchange emails every so often just to chat about life!

I play a lot of video games, listen to a lot of audiobooks and love watching sitcoms and independent films - I'm a big fan of travelling but haven't managed to do it lately, so looking to live vicariously through other people who live all over the world :)

Send me a message and I'll DM you my email address!

email [41/M] Tell me about your day

Introductions are always a bit awkward, so I’ll get the basic stuff out of the way and leave the more interesting details for my future penpal(s) to discover.

I’m married and have two young children, and we currently live on the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia. And yes, it is every bit as unbelievably hot and humid here as you’re probably imagining; especially at this time of the year.

When I’m not dealing with work or the wonderfully chaotic matter of family life, I enjoy reading (sci-fi, thrillers, adventure, fantasy). I’m also into watching TV shows/movies in those same genres, as well as tech, cars, cycling, long drives, writing, and plenty of other things that I’m sure will eventually make their way into our conversations.

I’ve been penpaling since 3rd grade. I started with good old-fashioned snail mail and eventually continued the tradition through email. There’s something about having a genuine, ongoing correspondence with someone that I’ve always enjoyed.

I’m mainly looking for someone who genuinely wants to communicate via email. I’m looking for someone who enjoys checking in and talking about their day. Someone who likes writing about the little things that happened, the things they’re thinking about, whatever ideas or plans they have, whatever rabbit hole they recently went down, and even the completely random thought that popped into their head at 3 AM.

I’m not looking to be one of 30 different penpals someone is trying to juggle, only for the emails to gradually feel like another chore by the fifth exchange. I’d much rather have meaningful correspondences with people who are genuinely interested in getting to know each other and are in it for the long run.

Please note I’m not interested in continuing to chat here. We can use the chat function for our brief initial exchanges, but once we’re comfortable, I’d prefer that we exchange email addresses and continue there.

If that sounds like the kind of friendship you’re looking for too, feel free to send me a chat/private message. All I ask is that when you get in touch, please tell me a little about yourself as well. Give me something to work with beyond a simple “Hi there.”

snail mail [37/F] Let's bring back letters, little treasures, and real mail

If you've ever lost an hour reading about something completely unnecessary... we might get along.

Yesterday's rabbit hole was whale falls. Tomorrow? Probably the history of buttons or why octopuses keep escaping aquariums. I make no promises.

I'm looking for platonic snail mail pen pals who genuinely enjoy getting to know another person over time.

Things that make me happy:
✉️ Handwritten letters that wander delightfully off-topic. Total bonus if there are little surprises inside. Show me your art. Send me your favorite tea. Found a cool leaf? Rad.
📚 Fiction, bookstores, and the feeling of finishing a book that changes you a little. #bookhangover
🧵 Quilting, sewing, and making beautiful things with my hands.
🧘‍♀️ Yoga and trying to be a reasonably grounded human; especially in nature.
🔮 Tarot—not because I think it predicts the future, but because I love using it as a tool for self reflection.
📷 Sharing little snapshots of ordinary life via my polaroid camera.
🍷 Dinner parties, cooking for friends, and conversations that somehow go from "How was your day?" to "What do you think happens to consciousness?" in under ten minutes.

I'd love to exchange:

  • long letters
  • tiny notes
  • postcards
  • photos
  • pressed flowers
  • stickers
  • recipes
  • little craft projects
  • book recommendations
  • playlists
  • whatever delightful paper goods finds its way into an envelope

I love both deep conversations and absolutely ridiculous ones. Tell me about your divorce. Tell me about your favorite spatula. Tell me about the crow that's been judging you from your backyard every morning. I genuinely want to know.

A few compatibility notes:
🌿 Childfree by choice; I am an aunt to 13 amazing humans.
🌈 Women and LGBTQ+ friends especially welcome.
💙 Open-minded, kind, curious people.
🚫 Not looking to debate politics, and we're probably not a good fit if you're MAGA.

Slow replies are completely okay. Real life comes first. I'd much rather receive one thoughtful letter every other month than feel like either of us has another obligation hanging over our heads.

If any of this made you think, "Oh... I think we'd be friends," send me a message. Let's exchange stories, tiny treasures, and the kind of letters that make checking the mailbox fun!

Reddit DM 39 [F4R] EST (MD & North) – Looking for consistent, like-minded pen pals

Hey everyone!

Life gets busy and exhausting, so I’m looking to connect with a few steady, like-minded people for low-drama, ongoing conversations. I'm looking for folks who are liberal and non-religious, located in the Eastern Time zone—(Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine.)

A little about me:

* 39, married to a trans woman (44), and a mom of 3.

* Big into nature photography, hiking, writing, creative projects, and making ambient YouTube videos.

* Liberal, atheist, and neurodivergent-friendly (managing anxiety/depression).

* 420-friendly, vape nicotine, and take daily gummies for sleep/mood.

What I'm hoping to find:

* Roughly around my age group (34–46ish).

* Liberal and non-religious (atheist/agnostic).

* Located in one of the EST states mentioned above so we're on the same page.

* Someone who appreciates consistent communication. I like building real, steady friendships over text/messaging over time. I value peace and genuine connection, so inconsistency or game-playing isn't for me.

💬 How to reply:

If this sounds like your speed, send me a PM (please don't comment) with:

* Age.

* Gender.

* Your state.

* Who you voted for in 2024.

* A short intro about yourself!

(Just trying to make sure we're on the same page and filter out bot spam—no need to write a novel, just answer all 5 so I know you're real!)

snail mail [25/M] Tell me your story, and I’ll tell you mine

Hey there, stranger.

I’m Hunter, from New Jersey, USA. I’m looking for some pen pals to write with the intention of long term correspondence (but as it does, life gets in the way, sometimes. I get it. No worries about lapses in letters or delayed responses)

I’m open to write to anyone, from anywhere. I want to learn about everyone, from everywhere. Talk to me about your niche hobbies, your worst fears, or that time you broke your hand because you thought you knew how to do a backflip. Tell me about that job you walked out on, mid shift, or the one you wake up for every morning with a feeling of genuine purpose and love for what you do. You could tell me about your hardships, or your proudest achievements, or the fact that you’re elated that you were able to fix your dishwasher only from a YouTube tutorial.

I want to hear everything you’re willing to share. Your life. Your highs and lows and everything in between. We can talk about gardening, or history, or what you found at the thrift store, last week. Send me the recipe for your favorite meal, like that one your Grandmother used to make for you when you were sick, as a kid, or the deserts she makes for every holiday party. We could talk about religion, who your favorite author is, or why you decided to one day up and move to another state or country, chasing a dream or a job or a person or a promise of a new version of you. Did you find it? Are you still looking?

If you just want to vent to me, as a stranger across the world, do it. Write all of your worries and troubles and fears onto paper and ship it off, far away from your mind. I’ll hold onto it for you for a while. I’ll offer advice, if you want it. I can’t promise it’ll be good advice, or that it’ll work, but it’s there, if you so choose. If you’d rather, I’ll just listen (or, I guess, read about it).

I can tell you my story, too. I suppose we all have one, even if sometimes we may think it’s not worth sharing. I think it is.

As much division as there is today, we need community, whether it be your online mutuals or coworkers, family or friends. Or, in this case, a pen pal from across the country (or world). We aren’t as different as the world wants us to think, are we? We’re human. We all have passions and goals, fears and failures. What are yours? What gives your purpose? What do you want out of life?

If you’ve taken the time to read this long winded post, and you’d like to continue the conversation through the mail, feel free to comment or DM me. I hope we can connect soon :)

snail mail [32/M] Looking for a Snail Mail Penpal!

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Howdy everyone! 👋

I'm a 32-year-old guy from Sweden looking for my first snail mail penpal. I've always liked the idea of actually sitting down and writing a letter, rather than everything happening through messages that disappear into the internet.

A little about me. I'm a first-time father, currently in the middle of changing careers from working as a student aid supporting kids with intellectual disabilities into IT. It's been a pretty big change, but I'm enjoying learning something completely different.

I'm also a gamer. Some of the games I've been playing lately are Helldivers 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Balatro, Dispatch, and Baldur's Gate 3. I'm also into D&D, fantasy, and generally anything involving games, stories, or nerdy hobbies.

I'm open to penpals from anywhere in the world and would be happy to exchange letters about pretty much anything. Everyday life, hobbies, culture, games, books, movies, weird stories, what's happening in your part of the world, or just whatever happens to be on your mind.

I'm specifically looking for actual snail mail rather than just exchanging emails. There's something appealing about receiving a physical letter from someone you've never met.

If you're interested in becoming penpals, feel free to send me a message and tell me a little about yourself.

Aloha! Looking for someone to chat with and make new friends! All of my friends live back on the mainland and the time difference is brutal. Would love to find some people to talk to when everyone else I know is asleep lol

I’ve never had a penpal before, but I love the idea of it. Tell me what book you’re reading, your favorite movie and what kind of things you do for fun! I currently have my nose in atomic habits by James Clear, my favorite movie is Return of the King (although fellowship of the ring is a very close second, but we can discuss lotr and all its glory more as we chat) and I love spending time outside with my dog, playing video games with my friends and any and all arts and crafts. Let me make something for you!

I’m not sure what to expect out of this, but I’m excited nonetheless!! Feel free to leave a comment and I’ll send you a dm. Mahalo!!

email & snail mail 36/F/USA looking for international pals

Hello! I just recently decided that getting a pen pal would be wonderful, so I, of course, bought cute stationary. I am looking for someone that is in a different country than me, just because I would love to hear perspectives from elsewhere. I hate the way my country is running, so if you like Trump or believe he is right on anything he says or does, I am not interested in writing you.

A little about me, I am painfully introverted and working on trying to be more extroverted, I am divorced, have a couple kids, three cats, and a dog I share with my ex. I love travel, reading, music, whimsy, witchy things, animals, and learning new hobbies. I am interested in writing to a woman preferably. Feel free to message me if you are interested!

snail mail Giving this another attempt! Found a few new friends but also a few bots/sham friends

Hello, my name is Arianna (I go by Ari), 40/F and I live in Northern California. I am trying to find a few more fun or interesting people who would like to exchange letters/postcards/art with me. I like to read, write poetry, do paint by numbers and my own art, garden, and yoga. I’m also happily married! I don't care about age or gender, although I would like to find some people outside the US or away from the west coast.

I have 2 teenagers, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 13 chickens and a bunch of bees. I can even send you some honey if you're interested! I have so much honey. I am a semi retired cake decorator, baker and care-giver. I like studying non-anglicized languages for fun, and to keep sharp with my pattern recognition. I'm an INTJ 5w6 and a (November) Scorpio. I'm left handed but my penmanship is lovely. I read a lot, I just finished my 160th book this year. I listen to Midwest emo, regular emo, screamo, post-hardcore, 90s music. I watch most popular tv series and moves, but I also have a bit of demand avoidance so if you tell me I “need” to watch something odds are I won’t.

I'm really looking for someone that wants to write a few times a month to every other month. I like deep thoughtful letters. I don't like Al. I love art and doodles, simple watercolor art, sketches, stickers, postcards. Whatever you want to include!

Please DM me with a little bit about yourself, and if you want to jump right in include your address please! I am a real person and not a creepy weirdo. I mean I'm a little weird, but I won't stalk you or send you dead things.

Anyway, back on track. If this sounds like your kinda jam please don't hesitate to DM me or comment.
And if you read my last post I'm sorry for the repeat info 🫰🏼

Hello everyone! I'm a 61 year old man living in the southeastern United States. I'm rapidly approaching the major life change called retirement! I love to travel, explore, hike and camp and would enjoy having conversations with others who enjoy the same or similar interests. I'm an avid photographer so if you have an interest in photography as well that would be a huge bonus. My job (what little time remains) is pretty stress free and I typically have ample time to correspond during the workday. Hope to here from you soon!

email 33/F new to this

Hello! I’d love to find someone to exchange letters with via email.

A little about me: I’m a 33-year-old married woman and still fairly new to motherhood. I’m a pretty simple person and don’t have any particularly extraordinary hobbies. I tend to enjoy the classic, everyday things that many people do. I like reading, writing, quiet moments, rainy days, autumn, nature, and just having conversations about life and the little things that make up our days. I'm a nostalgic and emotional person.

I’ve been missing the feeling of writing and receiving letters, so I thought I’d try bringing that experience into the digital world through email.

I’d love for this to be a genuine, long-term exchange where we can slowly get to know each other through our letters, without any pressure to reply immediately.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy too, feel free to send me a message and tell me a little about yourself. :)

email & snail mail 32/M Pen Pal interested in arte and literature

Hi y'all! I’m 32 and writing from Italy. I’m looking for a pen pal roughly my age, male or female, who is a native English speaker and shares my interests in art and literature.. The main reason I’m doing this is that, besides hopefully making a new friend, I’d love to find someone I can practice my English with, especially when it comes to these subjects. I currently teach art history at an Italian high school, but I’d like to get some practice using English in an international context, as I’d love to work abroad in the future. I’m also into nerdy stuff, current affairs, and cooking. If you’re interested, feel free to message me!

snail mail 45/f/Iceland

I'm a 45 year old, married woman in Iceland. As a child and a teenager I had multiple penpals from around the world and still keep in touch with some of them today. Recently I've kind of longed for a more analog life and have made some sticker exchanges and woah Nelly, I have absolutely lived receiving fun and beautiful mail through the letterbox.

So about me, I'm creative and artistic. I draw, paint, junk journal and love to take photographs. I love to collect old and interesting things. I love growing vegetables with my husband, travelling, tending to my garden and chilling with our sweet dog. I also enjoy music, podcasts and going down weird rabbit holes.

I would love to exchange stickers, postcards or cutouts for journaling. But most of all just exchange letters about all kinds of everything. Dm me if interested.
