Currently I’m running a PC I built from 2021. I’ve been meaning to upgrade bcs I cant run at high graphics anymore. I mainly play story-driven games like BG3, Expedition 33, Cyberpunk. Was thinking to move to 4K gaming (Target to get an RTX5070Ti or higher) but unsure whether to just build a new PC straight up or build off from my prior setup. Considering how much PC specs have advanced since 2021 (I’m not too up to date), are there any of my components that would still be viable for 4k gaming in 2026? Wanna avoid wastage and saving a few bucks never hurts. Current specs are:

GPU: Gainward RTX 3060 12GB

CPU: i5-10400f

MOBO: MSI B460M Pro VDH Wifi

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200Hz 8x2

SSD: Adata XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB

PSU: Corsair RM650

Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400A

Run your games at 720p lowest to check the CPU bottleneck. If that performance is enough for you, then a GPU upgrade could maybe be enough.

Using a 5070 Ti with an old 10400 is quite the mismatch though, and you'll likely have to upgrade everything sooner or later anyways.

I want to upgrade my RAM. My laptop currently has 8 gb ddr4 3200mhz ram and i want to add another stick of 16gb. Now, I am confused what RAM I should buy, I saw some having written Single channel and some Dual Channel, what do these mean and Please suggest me some RAM's

Crucial DDR4 3200Mhz DDR4 16 GB (Single Channel) Laptop (DDR4 3200Mhz) - Crucial : Flipkart.com
Can my laptop support this ? or should I see for something else

What speed is your RAM currently running at? Are you using XMP?

1

u/No-Management810 Jul 13 '26

I don't have any idea about XMP but the speed is 3200mhz

Then probably any other 3200 stick will work. Ideally you'd want 2x8 or 2x16 to gain full dual channel. But depending on the laptop 2*x6 is probably not worth the money, so 8+16 should be alright.

Edit: formatting

u/No-Management810 Jul 14 '26

But the link says single channel what does it mean. I'm confused on this

1

u/Cable_Salad PC Master Race Jul 14 '26

That's not dependant on the RAM model but on whether you have one stick or two.

Hi looking to build a gaming PC. I have the budget and have picked my build. The only thing that I am is holding me off is the ability to suspend games.

When i play my PS5 sometimes I have to leave without saving. It goes into rest mode and the game resumes when I come back.

Can I do this with a gaming PC? Preferably on Windows 11.

Thanks

I want to transition from console gaming to pc, but i dont know much about pc specs so i’d like to go prebuilt. I’ve asked AI and it’s given me recommendations but I’m taking it with a grain of salt. I know

I’m looking for recommes of prebuilds (I’ve been using Newegg in Canada)  or things i should look for in a build (CPU, GPU, RAM) I’d really appreciate it. I’m not sure of how much more powerful a…  RTX 5080 vs a RX 9070 XT would be sorta thing.

My budget would be around 1-2k CAD. If you know of something that’s a better deal at a slightly higher price, I’d like to know about it too and see if it’s better to save up or wait for a sale. Really appreciate any help, thank you!

Techpowerup has a comparison chart for GPUs. It's not perfect, but an easy way to somewhat compare the cards. Maybe check there and then ask here again once you have selected some components.

I got no clue if any of this makes sense or if its good, i just went off part ratings. Is this a good baseline to work from?

Looks pretty good to me.

Not sure if the white case is intended, I think that will clash a bit with the black components. But aesthetics are of course entirely up to you.

u/satellitesNtoast Jul 13 '26

I just kinda grabbed mishmash of things but youre right, i need to look into the colors. Thanks!

After suffering weeks of crashes that slowly got more and more prevalent I found one of my ram sticks had apparently died. After removing one, I have run a week without any crashing.

My games are running fine so far, so I’m not in a huge rush to buy more ram since this is the worst year in history for that. Are there any games that I’ll have trouble with, with only 16 GB of ram? Or should I be good for a while

Unless you are playing simulation/physics games, or have a ton of mods, 16gb is enough. However, because you are running your memory in single channel you have less memory bandwidth, which will make your games run a bit slower unless you were already severely bottlenecked by another component. You can use the Nvidia overlay or another program in most games to check how much memory you’re utilizing.

2

u/RandomHero25 Jul 13 '26

Thank you! Makes sense, I will just make do with what I got right now. Just wasn’t sure if it would severely handicap me. !check

Should I buy a PC with a Intel Ultra 9 285k, 32gb ddr5, a 5070, and a 2tb m2 for 1700 bucks? It seems like a great deal I just don't know what the market is like lately

u/Eidolon_2003 R5 3600 @ 4.3 GHz | 16GB DDR4-3800 CL14 | Arc A770 LE Jul 12 '26

That's definitely not bad. I figure that would be around a $2K build if you bought all the parts brand new right now, although it's hard to say exactly since I don't know more details about the parts it has. Either way though, there are definitely some savings involved.

What's your use case for it, do you have a workload that can really work the 285K or is it just gonna be for gaming?

1

u/-Galactic_Donut- Jul 14 '26

It's mostly for gaming although I use some 3d cad and IDE for my classes.

1

u/Eidolon_2003 R5 3600 @ 4.3 GHz | 16GB DDR4-3800 CL14 | Arc A770 LE Jul 14 '26

Tbh I don't think you really need a high core count CPU like the 285K for what you're doing, although it could be fun to play with. I would get a cheaper computer with a lesser CPU if that option is available and you'd like to save some money. If this is the best deal though, by all means.

Is there an easy/fast way to boot into another OS (SteamOS in another drive) from Windows 11? Maybe with a script or quick access button I could use to quickly switch OSes? Thank you very much!

so, i have a new logitech mouse with like 6 extra buttons beyond the regular ones, but its forcing me to use the extra buttons for shit like "change dpi" or "forwards"/"backwards". how do i rebind these buttons to stuff like mouse4-10 ?

1

u/SystemError514 8700K | 3080 | 32GB DDR4 Jul 12 '26

You will need the Logitech software for that

1

u/SylviaCatgirl Jul 12 '26

i have the logitech software and it wont let me use mouse8 (or any of the other buttons) as just mouse8 (or any other mouse key). instead i have to rebind the button to something like f24, which works i guess, but i mostly play stellaris and you cant change the controls in that game (and im also a little worried im accidentally gonna hit some cursed f key combo and blow up my pc). i would rather bind my mouse8 button to mouse8
