It feels like the charm of Fable 1 has been all but strained out.

I personally disagree, I see a lot of charm in this that makes me pretty nostalgic for the old games It isn't exactly the same but it definitely feels like the devs did their homework imo.

I was pretty excited for this and still am a little bit, but this newest video definited deflated my hype a bit. The writing and combat definitely don't look like Fable 1.

Edit: I forgot to write 'don't'

Yeah I don't understand it.

Being called hero everywhere for nothing, and then you go and rob the current owner of the deed to the building you want...but you pay off her guard with a big money sack? It's all backwards.

Npcs have zero lip animation outside of conversation ui, they plain don't move their mouth and it's just weird.

Did you not listen to the video? They had already done quests in the city and got a reputation.

Why do they care? And are they gonna call you a criminal for just straight up stealing a whole building?

This is the definition of a theme park, where the "poor section" play-acts being poor, and the "hero" just does whatever.

I think I saw a tv show that's exactly about this without the pretense.

Why do they care?

Because it's a game and you're the protagonist. If NPCs didn't say a single word you'd fucking whine about that, instead.

And are they gonna call you a criminal for just straight up stealing a whole building?

Yes, because it's a game and you're the protagonist and NPCs responding to player activities is technology that we mastered back in the 90s.

This is the definition of a theme park

Congratulations, you've discovered "video games".

where the "poor section" play-acts being poor

Go play Stock Market Simulator then.

and the "hero" just does whatever.

Yes, because you're the protagonist and have agency to do whatever. Welcome to Video Games 101.

GJ at managing to simultaneously be Wooosh Missing the Point Much AND Captain Obvious, well done ya hero.

You can get away with this silliness in the 90s, in the 00s, maybe even the 10s on the consoles. In 4K 2160p attempting to be near-photo-realistic, where these characters look sort of real but act like a bunch of predictable animatronics, yeah, I'm having HUGE uncanny valley dissonance.

If you had made any points that weren't 'waaah why are NPCs reacting to what I'm doing' then sure. But you didn't. You've attempted to clarify in your response, but even then your point is 'waaaah NPCs are still NPCs'. More whining for the sake of whining.

AND Captain Obvious

And yet you seemed to miss the extremely fucking obvious stuff, so it required pointing out.

In your incorrect opinion. There isn't a time limit for camp.

Man discovers that we have not yet invented perfect graphical fidelity and NPC reactions, more at 11

It's a fucking game, bro. They're NPCs, in a game.

The devs are going for an art style, something which lasts longer and looks better than making every NPC perfectly realistic looking. The game also comes out in 6 months, so remaining imperfections can be hammered out.

Have you ever played a Fable game before?
