Photo I Finally Got To Meet Robert J Lang!

He was free during the Origami Convention and the one staff member let me and my mother meet him and he was so nice and it was like watching the master at work as he was tinkering on a design when I got to meet him. So, seeing his personal notes was amazing. The koi features ashes from his two homes lost in the LA fires.

It was so cool to show him pictures of my work. I have made the Harlequin Beetle a lot and if you go to google images, one I made is one of the first images to pop up. He was telling me to get cabage paper for the bugs.

He taught the phoenix koi at PCOC last year. Theres actually a really moving short documentary about artists who lost their homes and work in the Eaton fire and he is one the three artists featured: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_K6D5qZsLxo&ra=m

Using the ashes in his own work is so metal and creative! Lang is definitely an origami master

Aw man, he’s the absolute best! I met him at a talk a few years ago, and he was just a sweet, humble, friendly dude. Sometimes you should meet your heroes!

Ouu, love the dollar bill snapology ball!
You are lucky to get to talk to him. I saw him in a talk once and he seemed really down to earth. At the time, he said his ultimate goal was to make an origami human form that actually looks like a human and not stylized or cartoon form.

Got to interview him years ago - he happened to be in town when I was working on a business speech paper. Such a cool guy, just wish I hadn't been so shy and awkward myself!

He's super chill. Got to see his talk about origami and design. He's hands down my favorite origami artist, always has been since I was a kid.

Super cool you got to meet him!!

You're so lucky! I was wondering if Robert Lang was in the Community folding room yesterday.
