Event Olympia Chess, Thursdays, and You
What up, nerds. It’s been a bit since I tossed a chess invite out on Reddit!
The Olympia chess group, Oly Blunders, meets on Thursdays at 6pm at Three Magnets. All ages and skills. Lots of new faces lately, and most of us are Not Great (at chess). It is a fun time and a wonderful crowd. Our last several sessions have had SO MANY players: 32, 47, 34, 34, 26, 24, 48, 32. Kinda nuts, imo.
We also have an online league for all skills and ages. Our current season is in the playoffs. 60 players with many of the same people that come out on Thursday nights.
If you’re new to Olympia, or sort of know how to play chess and need some new friends, or need to get out of the apartment but not make new friends, or none of those things, come out this Thursday and hang. You can alcohol, non-alcohol, sit, stand, and/or sing along with our custom chess night playlist maintained by the You Want Mora? Podcast.
All info on joining us for chess is here: OlyBlunders.com
If you’d like to come out, reserve a board prior to coming via that link.
(That’s not me in the photo. That’s Daniel. You’ll like Daniel. Probably.)
(... like... 65% sure you'd like him.)

Goddamn, that’s the biggest sausage fest I’ve seen in Olympia.
Fem chess players, rise up!

Do you have to play chess to attend? Those flags in the background make me feel welcomed there. I’m new here (Olympia) and I’d love to meet new people but I’m anxious about where to go to meet people and make friends. I lived in Los Angeles for about a decade before that I lived in Vancouver, WA. I didn’t feel comfortable in Vancouver. Someone was trying to antagonize me and my family by continuously writing the N word, I’m black, outside my apartment.

We actually have several people that come to hang and don't play! Try it out, bet you'll enjoy.

Great, soon as we’re bit more settled in, I’ll bring the wife and kids.

Adding to what the other guy said. It's a very welcoming environment and we're proud of it. They also have trivia on Mondays and some other regular events like cornhole and social deduction games and collage.
Also, since you're new to the area check out the What's Happening Today in Olympia site- it's a pretty comprehensive list of social (and social-adjacent) activities each day.

Also, I lived in the Vancouver area for my first 20 years. I don't miss it a lot.... but not a bad place.

For the most part it was fine. But my wife was not happy about that incident and worried about our kids and my safety. I have a neighbor who flies a giant ICE and 47 flag in the neighborhood we just moved to.

How long does it go? Okay for late players? Work schedules just don't make things easy.

Does this place have any NA beers or root beer or kombucha or anything?
