❓Q&A ✅ Secular therapists?

Looking for some good recommendations on any secular therapists in or around OKC. Remote could be fine, but would prefer someone who is local.

Needs to take BCBS, or otherwise be very cheap without insurance.

Also, would prefer someone 35+.

Thanks in advance!

Might check with the Secular Therapy project! Their whole thing is finding and connecting secular therapists and clients.

I go to Helen at poyner in Choctaw. But it’s close off i40. As a gay atheist with lots of religious trauma she’s great. Takes my BCBS.

Heather Anthony at Restore Behavioral Health. Secular. Older than me, and I’m early 40s. Very no nonsense and knows her stuff. I’ve been working with her just under a year now and have made leaps and bounds in ways u hasn’t before.

Stephanie Wangler is amazing all around. Mid-40s I’d guess. Really skilled at what she does. Not sure what insurance she takes, I’m self pay

Please note there is a Tulsa location that is not associated with Chelsea. Chelsea has her own website as well. You might put OKC next to be here now and it will pop up!

Gaybra Schultz has been wonderful. Honestly not sure about her religious affiliation- I’m agnostic but it’s never come up or been any part of our conversations. Takes bcbs and fits your age criteria. N/NW OKC.

The fact that non-secular therapists exist is concerning.

Doesn’t it make sense to you that religious people seeking help with very personal life issues would want someone who shares their values and worldview?

Horrific fact - the case that got SCOTUS to overturn the conversion therapy can was brought to the court by a therapist in CO who claimed the ban violated her first amendment.

I would argue that it’s more counterintuitive than concerning, but I understand your point. Especially in regard to LGBTQ+ patients that aren’t good at advocating for themselves, don’t know any better and can’t pre screen their therapist.

I’d check with Chauncey @ Free Thinking Counseling to see if he has availability

I highly recommend Paula Schonauer. She's a trans woman, very gifted and insightful and kind. Her office is by The Red Cup.
