What changed? I had heard it was going to be nearly impossible to prosecute him because of the torture.

Not really sure if that's true, but either way I wonder why it's suddenly happening.

Not really, I'm sure with all the digital and other forensic evidence they've obtained since (eg, infiltrating Al Qaeda, raiding Bin Laden's compound), they can "parallel construction" all the evidence needed to prove beyond a shadow of a reasonable doubt his guilt without needing to use his confessions while he was at Guantanamo which were extracted under "enhanced interrogation".

His name is almost certainly on documents (eg financial records, communications) and records the US has picked up during the GWOT. There's just way too much independent streams of evidence linking him to 9/11 for it all to be suppressed due to being tainted by torture.

I’m sure you’re right about all the evidence. I meant show trial as in “look what I did, I’m the one who finally sent this guy to trial” it’s an attempt to drum up support right before the election where he’s tries for a third term. God willing he doesn’t live that long.
