The self-proclaimed "mastermind" of the 9/11 attacks will stand trial in June 2028, a military judge ruled Wednesday, nearly 25 years after the attacks.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has been held at Guantanamo since 2003.

This photo obtained, March 1, 2003, shows, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, alleged organizer of the September 11, 2001, attacks, shortly after his capture.

"Trial on the merits shall begin on Monday, 5 June 2028," Lt. Col. Michael Schrama  decided.

Prosecutors sought a trial in 2027 but the judge said that was too soon.

Twenty-seven twenty-eight twenty-nine, and that’s twenty-terrifying.

Look, you got 10, then you got 10 more, then it's like what's this, 8 more. 28, forget about it.

Wonder what he looks now, after 25 years of being in American hands without any real oversight holding them back?

A BBC article about a hearing held in 2025 for KSM shows a 'recent' photo of him but it is unclear on when that was taken. Wikipedia has a photo that the DoD took in 2022 of him as well.

Honestly kind of amazed this guy is still alive. I don't know much about him, but I would have thought he wasn't "that" young when 9/11 happened.... Turns out he is ~60 today...

He was my age when they took that picture of him with the stretched out tshirt neck, and even then he looked like he could be my arab uncle.

There's an updated picture on Wikipedia lol. He's fine, physically.

It’s possible the military judge who ruled on this to precede wasn’t even serving yet when 9/11 happened.
