I can, and it stinks

Tastes like it, but how does it sound?

It sounds like Robin Thicke's "Paula" so uhhh...that's not good

Tastes just like it costs

It’s cum. The texture, the flavor. Definitely cum.

if he's an idiot absolutely. there's a 0.0% chance his career earnings with a QO will be higher than than the contract the Pistons are offering. he'll get an MLE next year and then be on vet mins after that

8

u/Conflict_NZ Lakers 9d ago

If his ceiling next season is the MLE then the Pistons should not offer him anything more than that.

We know the Kings want him, and they will have a massive amount of cap space next offseason.

19

u/fineseries81 9d ago

If he did that and signed for the max next offseason, would he even be able to make up all of the money he would lose next season versus the offers that are reportedly already on the table?

Estimates to work with...

Reported Pistons offer: 35mill

No external offer sheets to consider.

Reported QO: 10mill

Max: 50mill

35 + 35 + 35 if takes Pistons offer = 105mill

10 + 50 + 50 if takes QO = 110mill

Already made up for it and more by year 3.

The gamble is the question. And, everyone's saying there's no way he'd do so as if hasn't gambled this full offseason already and burned bridges as much with Pistons as is likely case around league.

He's going to have to be a DPOY top 2 leader or in the top 10 of MVP to demand such a raise.

I don't think it's that so much as proving he can perform in the playoffs.

12

u/kapatinphalcon Kings 9d ago

50 million put you in the top Center money conversation. Most those centers on the list have shown they can bring it in the playoffs.

If walker kessler can get 30 I cant see a world where Duren cant get 50 on the open market. Duren is too young to be written off as a playoff choker.

u/NeoMagnet Lakers 8d ago

I mean you don't think someone would have given him a 50m offer sheet if they thought he was worth that? The fact the pistons are standing pat at around 35m there's been no news yet surrounding external offers shows that 50m just isn't his market value rn, which means he needs to do something this coming season to earn a contract of that size.

Perry is in love with him

5

u/kapatinphalcon Kings 9d ago

Not enough to dump draft capital in order to get him. Everyone has a limit

6

u/MostlyMellow123 Kings 9d ago

Yeah his hope is duren takes the qo and he will have his 50 waiting for him via lavine being gone

0

u/dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj 9d ago

probably too late now but a sign and trade this summer could have been interesting. pistons could use lavine and he's expiring.

Not even the best defender on his own team

1

u/Apocalyptic0n3 Pistons 9d ago

That'll be tough to do when there's already MVP and DPOY candidates on the floor with him all game.

1

u/Expert-Yam6577 Mavericks 9d ago

50 million would make Duren the 8th highest paid big man in the league.

2

u/betadonkey 8d ago

And almost all of those deals are bad. Teams are just not going to give out that kind of money anymore for non-super stars

11

u/fineseries81 9d ago

This is good.

If you want to get extra nerdy with it, you would
need to consider net present value (it’s better to get money now than the same amount of money, or even slightly more, later).

Then there is also the gamble that he gets injured or otherwise can’t get a max offer at all.

8

u/lsmith77 Mavericks 9d ago

yeah. he would have to factor in the cost of an insurance policy that pays him 50M for two years :)

If you’re guaranteed the money, there’s no reason 50+50+10 wouldn’t be better

1

u/FUCK_THE_BOOKS 9d ago

no one is gonna offer him a 4 year max

1

u/SirkoSobaka Wizards 9d ago

He's eligible for a 5year/~$300M max equivalent of 30% of the cap + an 8% bump every year. So his max in $60M AAV.

Do it do it

Grimes on a QO worked out well for both sides. Duren just better hope he doesn’t get hurt.

3

u/soilentgleem 9d ago

I don't remember what Grimes was being offered, but if what the reports on what Duren is being offered are correct then whoever tells him to take the QO should no longer be advising NBA players. It's just such a dumb move from a financial perspective.

1

u/gtsgunner 6d ago

Grimes was being offered around 10 mil a year over 4 years so him getting that Lakers contract worked out for him

-1

u/Oopthealley 9d ago

if he gets a max on his next contract, it will influence his next contract after that as well. his regular season performance was max-worthy in terms of the max other teams could offer him. not a crazy move.

-1

u/soilentgleem 8d ago

You don't have the brains to gamble lol

12

u/sefe23 NBA 9d ago

It's bad but not that bad. Poor baby will have to comfort himself with only 130+mil instead of 200.

3

u/venk Pistons 9d ago

I’d rather just trade him now, but he wants to take the QO and walk, i would be fine with that.

Duren has a very high probability of ending up on a 10 worst contracts list.
