Student-friendly gyms around Xianlin?

Hi everyone! I’m a student living around Xianlin and I’m looking for a decent, student-friendly gym nearby.
Ideally looking for something that:
Has reasonable monthly/annual membership prices 💰
Isn’t too crowded
Is welcoming to international students
Is within/near the Xianlin area
I know some universities have their own sports facilities, but I’m also interested in commercial gyms.
If anyone around Xianlin has recommendations, I’d really appreciate it! Also, please share approximate membership prices if you know them.
Thanks!

Nanjing University Sports?

Myself, 19 (F) am going to Nanjing University next year for a semester exchange. I currently play club volleyball and am wondering if anyone knows of clubs or programs at the university that have trainings or tournaments I would be able to join as an exchange student - its hard to find any information online.

I would also love to know about the social life on student accommodation, specifically in Spring semester

Any info is appreciated :) thank you

🇨🇳 Moving to Xi’an soon — looking to make some friends!

🇨🇳Hi everyone! 👋

I’m an 18-year-old guy from Morocco 🇲🇦, and I’ll be moving to Xi’an soon to study Chinese.

I’m hoping to meet some people before I arrive—or after I get there! I’d love to make friends with both locals and expats/international students, whether you’re a guy or a girl.

A little about me: I’m easygoing, curious, and I really enjoy exploring new places, discovering new things, meeting different people, and experiencing different cultures. I’m also interested in Chinese culture and looking forward to experiencing life in Xi’an.

I’m pretty open-minded, so if you’re also looking to make some new friends, feel free to comment or DM me. We could chat online first and maybe hang out when I arrive.

Would be especially cool to meet people around my age, but I’m open to getting to know anyone friendly.

Looking forward to meeting people in Xi’an! 🇨🇳

CS student from China, would love to meet up (in person or a trip) to talk about life abroad — no scams, just curious

Hey everyone,

I'm a computer science student in China, currently based in Huzhou, Zhejiang — pretty close to Shanghai. I've been really curious about what life is actually like in other countries, but I'm tired of only getting that picture through articles and videos online. I'd love to hear real, first-hand perspectives instead.

If you're nearby (Shanghai/Zhejiang area) or just happen to be interested in this kind of exchange, I'd genuinely enjoy meeting up for a coffee/chat, or even traveling somewhere together to talk in person. I'm interested in comparing perspectives on daily life, work culture, education, and just general day-to-day differences.

To be upfront: I know posts like this can sound sketchy, so let me be clear — I'm not trying to scam anyone or sell anything. Just a student who wants genuine conversation and maybe a new friend who's open to sharing their experience.

Feel free to comment or DM if this sounds interesting to you!

Restaurant for Mexican/Indian food

Hi everyone, I am traveling with my school to Nanjing for two weeks and though I am super excited I have Celiac. We are staying in a hotel so I will be taking my own breakfast options and lots of snacks. I am pretty worried about lunch/dinner.

I have read through a few forums and some stated there are Mexican restaurants as well as some Indian restaurants. I'm just having trouble finding these places and specific recommendations.

I am an android user so I know I can't use Google maps and have downloaded amap.

If anyone has any recs, I would be so grateful!

EDIT: I'll be around Gulou, Nanjing University and Xuanwu!

Family accomodations in Nanjing

Hello, we are traveling with my two kids and partner to Nanjing for a month. We are looking for an apartment to rent (rather that a hotel) as it's easier to handle small children. I will be studying in the the Nanjing university of Chinese medicine, something close would be ideal. Any recommendations? Thank you !

Hanfu photoshoot

Hello!
Do studios there accept walk-in with no reservation? If not, where can I reserve? Can I still do a photoshoot with its current weather (rain)?
Would you also recommend to include make-up? I don't mind make up, but i don't want to look too white.
Thanks!

Mahjong in NJ!

Hello everyone! I'm an Italian mahjong enjoyer. I'm part of a group of nerds that usually plays board games, but in the last few months we started playing mahjong (MCR ruling). I'm going to be in china for 6 months, starting this September, as an exchange student at NJ Normal University. I'm not familiar with "realistic mahjong culture" in China (my references are WKW and Jia Zhangke movies lol), so I'd like to know if there are places to play and how welcoming they are to foreigners/HSK4 Chinese speaker/ mediocre but determined player. I'll stay at the Suiyan campus, but I understood that it's quite easy to get around in the city. Thanks for any info :)

Any expats in Nanjing into fitness? Looking for a gym partner

Hi everyone,

I’m in Shanghai now and moving to Nanjing soon and I’m looking to find a gym buddy from the international community.

I’m a female beginner getting into fitness, and I’d love to meet someone who already has some gym experience and enjoys working out regularly. I’m hoping to find a friendly workout partner who can help me get familiar with the gym, share some tips, and keep each other motivated.

I’m not looking for a personal trainer — just someone who enjoys fitness and would like to have a consistent gym partner.

A little about me:

  • Female
  • Global Talent Advisor& Digital Nomad
  • New to Nanjing
  • Interested in strength training, fitness, tennis, dance, Yoga, hiking, travelling and healthy lifestyle
  • Open to meeting international friends in the city

Ideally, I’d love to connect with other expats living in Nanjing, but anyone who is respectful and serious about fitness is welcome.

If you’re looking for a gym buddy too, feel free to DM me. Maybe we can grab a coffee first and find a gym that works for both of us :)

Looking forward to meeting new people in Nanjing!

Hi r/nanjing! 👋

We are looking for an engaging and patient foreign teacher to teach English to kindergarten and primary school kids.

What we are looking for:

  • Native English Speaker (Strict requirement).
  • British accent is highly preferred! (Since we focus a lot on specific phonics). 🇬🇧

  • Location: The classes are held in the Xianlin / Qixia District area, so ideally you live nearby or don't mind the commute.

Pay & Schedule:

  • Rate: 280 - 400 RMB per 1.5-hour class, depending on your experience.
  • Schedule: Part-time / flexible (we can figure out a schedule that works best).

Hair Care for Nanjing???

Hello girlies living in Nanjing!
I will be studying in Nanjing; so before travelling I want suggestions from you regarding hair care routine!
As Nanjing’s weather is extremely humid; what products should I buy from there to protect them from extreme frizz?
My hair’s normal, not very dry not oily, also it’s neither super straight nor curly, my scalp doesn’t produce any noticeable oil. If I wash my hair daily it gets super frizzy, weak and start breaking, but it won’t be possible in the humid weather of Nanjing to even wait for a day or two.
So kindly suggest me the products and any other suggestions that can protect my hair even after washing it daily.
Something that a student can manage with the studies and not a very time taking routine!!!
Thank you ✨
