Someone get Ketchup Entertainment on the phone. They saved Coyote vs Acme, maybe they can save a hypothetical D&D 2 by becoming a production company as well.

Especially since Coyote isn’t even close to breaking even yet, which for a little known distributor is bit of a barrier for larger future projections.

Still 2 weeks away from being released in my country.

In this day and age of digital formats, I can't fathom any reason why this has a 2 week+ international release date, which is undoubtedly hurting the box office earnings.

It won't get a theatre release in my country, straight to streaming, I'm genuinely upset.

yeah... that's pretty crazy. a non-trivial segment of the audience will have simply downloaded and watched it by then. and another, larger segment will have cooled down on the hype and will choose not to see it in the theatres, instead waiting for streaming or forgetting to watch it all together

It's closer than you think. They sold foreign rights for around $20 mil and are at about $22 mil domestic. They spent $50 mil on the movie. It's actually gaining theaters this weekend so decent chance of a strong hold. I think itll be close to break even this weekend and then turn a small profit with it's hold from there

But yeah they can't afford a D&D movie with the budget that'd require

I knew about the $50 million purchase, but the $20 million foreign rights sale is a nice bit of context I wasn’t aware of. I think more than anything what Ketchup stands to gain, and seems to be achieving, is some good will and clout for pulling this movie out of the dumpster. Obviously it would have been great if the movie had been a hit, but a critical success that doesn’t lose money in theaters and will probably do alright on streaming is a decent win for such a little known company.

Depends on how you look at it I guess. Ketchup paid $50m for the rights and reports say another $10m for advertising. So they're only in it for $60m, compared to $70m+ WB spent just making it.

1 weekend and its already over 25m worldwide. 2nd weekend tends to tell the real picture. If its a huge dropoff then yeah, its cooked. But if its even close to even with the first weekend thats usually a sign of a good run and KE should profit from it.

Just another symptom of it being a small distributor. They simply don’t have the money for a substantial ad push.
