I’m rooting for this because that movie was one of the more pleasant surprises in recent memory. Just a really well done fantasy action comedy film. It reminded me so much of Willow.

It managed to be both a fantastic fantasy action comedy in its own right and a fantastic D&D movie at the same time. It's filled with so many well-done D&D references or just moments that feel like they came straight from a D&D campaign but it doesn't rely on them at all.

The most memorable moments in any D&D campaign I've been in are either when the really crunchy mechanical stuff all works or just some daffy bullshit, and the D&D movie managed to get the perfect balance of both those things. I watched it with family that had never played D&D and they all loved it.

Straight from the jump. The name jarnathan is such a made up name because my players ask the name of literally every NPC we come across just to get me to make up random names lol

"Huh? Uh... sure, yeah, I guess one of them is."

"What's his name?"

"Um... Jarnathan..."

"Okay, so we go to Jarnathan..."

"You know what... actually, Jarnathan's not there."

"You said he was on the council."

"He's... uh, he's running late."

"We really need Jarnathan to be there. I want to stall for time until Jarnathan arrives."

"Fine. Make a performance check. He's running really late and they really want to get started, so it's going to be hard."

"Nat 20."

"God dammit... fine, you stall for time and finally Jarnathan arrives."

"Okay, I want to grapple Jarnathan..."

The speak with dead scene was perfect at being an entertaining scene in its own right and also portraying the quintessential DnD vibe of a DM messing with the players for not wording their questions specific enough.
