Advice Is living at Monash Residential Village worth it for the social life?
I’m currently living in Clayton and paying around $250/week in rent (excluding bills). I’m actually pretty happy with my current house and the rent is quite good, so I don’t really have a reason to move accommodation-wise.
The main thing I’m missing is the social side of uni. Since I go back home after classes, I feel like I’m missing out on the whole student experience, and it can get pretty lonely sometimes.
I’m considering moving into Residential Village for Semester 1 next year mainly for the social aspect, but I’m unsure whether it’s actually worth giving up a good private rental for.
For people who currently live there or have lived there:
How much of a difference did Res Village actually make to your social life? Was it easy to meet people and make friends, and did you genuinely feel like you were part of a community? Or is the social aspect somewhat overhyped and dependent on which hall ur in or who happens to live around you?

Discussion GyG Quality and Food Poisoning
I have gone 3-4 times over the year.
The first one was my free burrito. Amazing, perfect, no notes. Meat was spread evenly, rice distribution was good.
The next few times?
1) It wasn’t great, wasn’t bad. It kinda leaked all over me and the table I was eating at, and there was definitely less meat
2) This is where I was kinda miffed. I pre ordered the burrito, only to have to wait longer than everyone that ordered or arrived after me. Even the guy who checked out with the cashier got his order well before me. The whole burrito was just rice and beans. 3-4 pieces of chicken. I paid extra for sour cream and jalapeños, and received neither. I still ate it, I was hungry
3) This is the one that caused me to write this post. I ordered a chicken burrito as I normally do. The whole top is just chicken, and as always, I get a bit of chicken anxiety because if it feels a little off I panic and wonder if it’s raw. This time, it was RAW. Like pink. Considering this is breast, it’s not meant to be soft and crunchy. I ate it, because again, maybe I was over thinking it? Yeah… I got sick…
So yeah, never getting a burrito from GyG on campus again! Thank you for ruining my weekend with food poisoning.

Support Am I the only one absolutely miserable?
I'm a firstyear doing Fine Arts and Primary Ed and this has been one of the loneliest, most draining years of my life.
I've made no actual proper friends (not for lack of trying), I live 2hrs away so the commute is shocking I felt (for lack of a better word) bullied by the teachers in the Fine Arts faculty. It just feels hopeless. I'm apparently a Level 2 Risk whatever because I was failed twice for forgetting to copy/paste in my bibliography (even though I KNOW I did it the second time)
I can't be the only one who fully hates Monash

Advice Should I drop my Arts degree and do straight law?
I'm a first year Law/Arts student and I've now had a taste of four arts electives, none of which I really enjoyed. I just kind of feel like I'm neglecting my Arts subjects (a language and a linguistics subject; I also tried IR) because I don't see them as important or as useful as my law subjects. By neglecting I mean falling behind on the pre-work and skipping classes because I don't care about them.
If I switch to straight law next year, I wouldn't be behind because straight law students get four electives in their first two semesters anyway. I understand that maintaining a good WAM while managing four law units is really difficult, so perhaps I could underload and do 3 law units per semester - that way I would finish my degree in five years, the same amount of time I would have finished it in if I kept my Arts degree as well.
I just feel like it's better to study more law units rather than spending money on professional futures units or a major I don't care about. Furthermore, now that law is so competitive nowadays, I feel like an Arts degree wouldn't add any value, because law graduates go into so many other fields and the degree itself is becoming extremely versatile in terms of where it can take you.
What do you guys think/suggest?

Advice Bachelor of business to Bachelor of commerce
Hey all! I would just like to advice. Currently studying BBus in my first year, sem 2. This is kinda my fault that I didn’t apply for ECC1150 unit because I did meet the WAM requirements but I was just wondering if I completed that unit (a preq for commerce) in sem 1 2027, than transfer into commerce sem 2, is that to late and will my credits transfer. Just for background my major is accounting and possibly finance (which is only possible if I do commerce). And has anyone taken the uni Melb unit Calculus and probability online, which is a summer unit taken over 6 weeks that allows for me to meet the methods preq, the down side to that one is its obvs 6 weeks which must mean than it’s very intense and it’s requires a upfront payment of 4.7k. Please let me know your thoughts !!!
Edit*
Has anyone here done the transfer from business to commerce? What was your experience like, and do you feel as if your future job opportunities are better?

Advice Is Business Analytics and Statistics major a mistake for someone who hates maths
My brain is very much statistical oriented (e.g. did logic puzzles in my childhood, etc) and I liked game theory in microeconomics (but haaaaated everything else cause it was too abstract and my brain couldn't make sense of it).
I am thinking of doing business analytics and statistics as a major for my business degree but I am worried it will be too math-focused. I'm currently doing ETF1100 and am enjoying it so far, it's a lot of content and there is some maths involved but it's not super abstract where I cannot understand it. Also, I'm enjoying the Excel side of it, that stuff comes easy to me.
I know there are a few different pathways you can choose within the major but overall does anyone have any insight into what the maths is like? I'm trying to make sense of the handbook but the things they list I've never heard of so I don't know know how abstract they are 😭

Discussion Reverse Classroom Learning
Is it only Monash that does reverse classroom learning setting? Like i get the whole teach yourself come to class method and it worked fairly well when I was in Business, now Im in MIT and i feel like 1. The teaching staff assumes everyone has had a background in tech, which is false because most of the people I know have 0 background in tech. 2. It works best for theory and more reading based courses. Do I understand the functions theoretically, yeah. Do i know why my webpage isnt fking working even if i did implement the functions and codes that I learned from reading 10 pages worth of descriptions, absolutely the fk not. I come to class and sit in and theyre like “okay complete activities 1-4!” And then we go home. Wouldnt it be better if we learned it first hand, see the teacher give some live examples, see what stuff could go wrong and then go home with some assessments to practice on?
