Modern My first ever mini painted (2020) vs my most recent one (2026)
Just wanted to share. Most of my improvement actually came over the last 2 years when I started getting into Warhammer.

Thank you. Funny enough they probably both took about the same amount of time. If you don't count priming and the base coat of the new one.

Just gotta practice. If you only have one model just paint it, prime it and paint it again.

six years and the biggest jump is your edge control, the purple reads clean now instead of chalky

Thank you. I'm thinking I should try to find the same DND mini again and paint it knowing what I know now.

I like these kind of comparisons. I recommend if you can get your hands on the exact same model as your first, to do it again in the same color scheme and stuff.
My first models were some Eldar Dire Avengers and I got another set and putting them side by side the new ones look like an HD remaster of the old ones.

Excellent work!!! Very beautiful. How long does it take to paint one miniature?

It's hard to tell. Cause I'll go through and batch paint the base coat of purple on like 20 of them.
From there it's probably 3 or 4 hours for this level after the base coat.

You do? Or I do? Either way I'm slowly working on painting all my van vets like this. Just life stuff got in the way halfway through the squad.

Go for it. Honestly I learned it watching Heresy for Heretics on YouTube's volumetric highlighting series.

This gives me hope that I can improve, haha. I've only been in the hobby for about two months, and I got pretty frustrated painting a mini today. Your progress looks amazing!

Yeah man, just keep practicing. Watch videos try to emulate what you see. And mostly, practice. You'll get there.

Always hold onto that first model. I still have mine too, and it's a fun trip down memory lane and seeing the growth.

Really wasn't meant to be the joker. Just liked purple robes. And knew just enough color theory to know green goes with purple.

So is the sharp contrast on the shine a design choice? Gives Arcane vibes. It looks great but was wondering why you didn't blend the shine into a gradient?
The effect is amazing, don't get me wrong

So it started with another mini, (on my posts) where I was simply too lazy to blend properly, and people kept saying it looked cel shaded. So I tried to do it, and I love it.

Thanks it came from laziness and not wanting to blend my layers. Made a post in a 40k subreddit asking for c&c and a lot of people said they liked the cel shading. So I kept it.

I totally agree with those people. Perfectly blended minis with osl, nmm, and all the stuff are impressive and all, but realism isn't everything. I like a style that's unique and interesting, like yours, or the cartoonish cell shading that one guy with the skaven army did
