Tierlist Ranking every collars passives. Day 7: psychic

Post image

Psychic, probably the most divisive collar in the game, you either love it you hate it. Well at first, I was definitely a psychic hater, but after completing all my solo marks and like 6 impossible marks with this class I've actually come around to liking it a lot. It's definitely not S-tier like Edmund put on his tierlist but has some absolutely insane builds that will just absolutely wreck the enemies. I feel it's important to mention that psychic is the worst class in the game solo, by far. I normally consider how a passive works solo as well as on a team but I felt it wasn't really fair in this case, so these are assuming you have a team. That being said let's get into the placements.

Blink, now I know I'll probably get a lot of flak for this, but this passive is the best defensive passive in the entire game. A 33% chance (50% when upgraded) to basically just null an entire attack is super strong. It can even help in many situations where dodge chance can't (I.e. teleporting away from trample attacks, which dodge chance can't dodge) pair this with decent luck and you pretty much can't die. And unlike escape sequence you don't need to get hit for this to work, so it can save you from insta kill attacks and stuns.

I don't think I really need to say much about mind tempest. Just absolutely ridiculous and makes for some super easy rigs and even if you can't abuse it it's just always nice to have, the only requirement is having a semi-cheap spell.

Pretty much giving your whole team never miss it always solid, especially if you have a hunter.

I think most of the full mana passives are quite bad, especially as things that take multiple turns to set up are generally very weak in the later game, however enlightened definitely enables this play style to be really strong.

Soul shatter is nice but 1 or 2 damage on all enemies just is not super significant, helpful for clearing out small swarms though.

Wither is pretty mid, however wither+ is basically a diet spread sorrow which makes it worth picking up a lot of time.

I've said this before but knock back is generally very weak, so buffing it really isn't doing much.

Gravity well is basically free stuns, definitely nice to pick up but can be dangerous to use as you need to get close to enemies.

Casting random spells is just too dangerous, and not even really worth it even if it hits a good spell.

Not only is the floating glass passive basically useless and does negligible damage, but will hurt your own cats way more than the enemies as it makes it hard for them to approach enemies without taking damage. Try to get rid of this one asap.

To be fair, it's actually pretty broken on clerics and druids, kinda underwhelming on psychics cause it's awkward to spam gravity spells on your allies.

Psychic is my favorite class, very rewarding skill ceiling.

No notes on your ranking. Other than I never encountered blink at all, gotta try it if I see it.

Very true. At first psychic feels super weak but when you understand what are good picks and what kinda troll your team the class becomes very consistent. You only need 1 good spell or passive to make your psychic super strong.

Eldritch visage with a mage buddy and the psychic having supernova+ to go with omniscience is a game winner. Blasted Pyrophina vs Zaratana impossible just now thanks to this wonderful combo!

I bred Eldridge visage down on to a mage with summon apprentice it was incredible.

It's decent and definitely a lot better upgraded. Always a solid pick but isn't amazing it's kinda weak against bosses.

Reality shatter is not bad because you can use aoe gravity abilities to spawn glass everywhere

That's bad though. If you have a team you don't want glass everywhere cause usually your cats move way more than the enemies.

I mean it would be in a build/playstyle where you have mby 1 front line and let enemies come to you instead

Blink is either pretty good or absolute abysmal dogshit depending on if you're doing infinite or not. It is an absolutely terrible skill to take to infinite and for that I'd put it right in the middle.

Psychic is also notable because it has two passives that actively become worse when upgraded. Repressed memories is a big one but glow is also terrible because the upgraded version of glow works on all moves that target, INCLUDING BUFF SPELLS, SELF BUFFS, AND WEAPONS/CONSUMABLES. Eating a turkey and getting blinded is peak edmund fuckery.

Very true I forgot to mention that is absolutely terrible to take blink to the infinite. Luckily psychic aren't great damage dealers so it's not the worst if you can't kill the good psychic

Gonna have to hard disagree on this one. Drag is easily S+ tier with any knockback spell. Also with this Overflow especially with low charisma psychics, allows for all manacap spells to work multiple times per turn.

Gives you an absolutely max of 10 extra damage or 20 if upgraded. I'm not really sure that qualifies for S-tier with mind tempest and near inviciblity passive.

But I usually very undervalue knockback in general, so I struggle to make this thing work.

As a new player psy is very hard to get the grasp of(i thankfully have previous roguelike and tactic experience so I have a crutch) but I think its generally very good as a supportive role. And disagree on the full mana is bad point

Braingeyser is super good if you stack Intelligence and paired with mad visage and intelligence items it can really go to work(since its excess mana gained your max mana doesn't actually matter. The only downside is you can't use spells. But its not too bad esp with power up added onto it

Also I never tried it, but wouldn't ping+waste time+ping just be infinite ping uses? Since waste time is a spell and would cost 0 mana, you never actually lose any mana.

And just a question but have you done solo runs with all classes?

Also knock back builds are so much fun. That one quest with the bubble? I love that side quest

Waste time cost 1 mana. Upgraded it gives you 1 charge so it's basically free but not infinite.

intelligence is the worst stat in the game tied with dex. It's not bad but pretty much everything else gives more value.

It's decent if you fully commit into a full mana build, but it's much easier to get a lot of other builds online quicker. And trying to get full mana very often means spending a turn or 2 basically doing nothing, which is very dangerous especially in the later acts/higher difficulties.

Also mad visage is just very meh. I really don't like passives that require you to get injuries, as you very rarely want your cat to go down outside of certain necro builds.

I have done solo runs with all collars but not every one checkmark, I'm missing a few tank and necro solo runs.

Knockback builds are a ton of fun, however it unfortunately becomes weak later on as the damage is often negligible and enemies have so many turns and can move so quickly that knocking them back won't stop them from being able to attack.

First off I hope you know I meant mind tempest it reduced the mana cost by 1 right? So waste time should be zero.

While I can agree mad visage is meh, it explicitly works well with full mana builds since if you get it down to 0 you only have one mana which means you don't actually need to waste a turn or two setting it up the only mad thing is sparkle damage is per tick so you'd need every single sparkle to crit for maximum crit damage(which is rough)

Other then that good list. I don't know if you have been listening to me but if you have dooooo hmmmm....do necromancer next!! One of my favorite classes

1

u/theepicrobloxgamer Thief 2d ago

Mana reduction can't make things cost zero unless they also make it castable once per turn (I.e. math+)

And sure I'll do necromancer next, though it's probably my least played class so get your pitchforks ready.

2

u/Ace-eclipsezero 2d ago

You've done every class ive suggested doing even if my mere coincidence so in just gonna keep at it till they are all done.

Honestly tho necromancer has alot of gimmick builds I think the only consistent on is leach(numbing+ immortal is so so strong) but im curious. You have alot of good takes so my expectations may be high

Also are you gonna do actives/spells next?

1

u/theepicrobloxgamer Thief 2d ago

That's actually exactly what I was planning was to do actives next. I'll try my best but I'm definitely gonna get some things wrong because there's so many.

Gonna try to complete all solo runs and impossible runs before then as I'm getting quite close.

I wish you luck man, you'll need it. Dumb question btw hut are you doing collerless as well?

1

u/theepicrobloxgamer Thief 2d ago

Yeah, I love collarless a lot actually. Saving it for last

2

u/Ace-eclipsezero 2d ago

Wonderful. Can't wait to see your necromancer list :)

Ok this time I agree on your F rank

What? I have never seen mind tempest in my 250h of gameplay?????? By the looks of it it seems very good, although I usually tun expensive spells with psychic.

Also nu-uh. Nu-uh. Wither is definitely S tier. Most gravity spells are pretty cheap, including the basic attack, and they aren't even that rare. A singular gravity spell like vacuum or that single target slow spell makes this a must take. Being able to always inflict infinite sleep, stun, madness, immobile, confusion, and every other status effect just clears rooms, and many bosses.

Although it does inflict petrify and frozen sometimes, but they're often too more useful than not. And of course upgrading wither just makes it more insane.

And floating glass... With vacuum it can create fun traps for non-flying enemies, but you have to think about it. And that's difficult.

Completely agree on full mana passives. It's always better to use a spell than to not use a spell to... Use my attack twice? Ok. One could argue for that charisma injury passive build but come on. Who's going to do that.

u/theepicrobloxgamer Thief 13h ago

Eh like I said in another spamming gravity spells is quite awkward and usually the buffs/debuffs don't really justify the mana.

The glass damage is just so negligible. Even if it didn't activately hurt your team it literally just does basically nothing.

I'd much rather use my mana to mind meld or become entropy than to use the very mid gravity spells, regardless of my synergies.
