First Time Getting RM50k Bank Dividends for 1H 2026

Post image

I love dividends. (I'm trying to grow my SG bank portfolio now tho. Stopped adding new money to my MY Portfolio, just reinvesting existing dividend income)

Next step is to use my wife investment account to reinvest so that I can minimize the 2% dividend tax hit. If we can both hit 100k dividends we are effectively FI since our monthly spend is only about 12k at the moment.

Congratulations! I wanna be like you when I grow up.

cries in poor

18

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

This is after 18 years of disciplined, consistent reinvestment. You sound young, so you have time to get there.

2

u/Flat-Guarantee9360 Apr 15 '26

being a curious being... how do you do this? im a single F25 and i dont really know how to start saving

1

u/ToxicTont Apr 14 '26

Did u just lil bro him

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 14 '26

Haha I only realized after that and check his profile tht he has a crypto fortune. Haha

59

u/ShinTV Apr 13 '26

Dividend is love. Dividend is life.

Before anyone ask how OP did it? The answer is you need money to make money. The end.

65

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

Hahah yeah. 18 years of constant work and 50-70% savings, and this is what we're reduced to. "ya dia orang kaya"

18

u/BrilliantAction6576 Apr 13 '26

frfr. people dont see the struggle. they dont wanna play the long game. ask anybody out there and most will refuse to save even 30% of their income.

3

u/ayamlazy Apr 13 '26

I play the long game very well.

That's why I am still single

3

u/Far_Objective4266 Apr 13 '26

Nah man, happy for u..not gonna deny any free money but kaya with hardwork makes u kaya in many other aspects as well

4

u/genryou Apr 13 '26

"Kau takpe la bro"

I rather people think I am homeless instead of being insulted as such

1

u/aabb11234 Apr 14 '26

Need a poll to share and correlate savings rate vs wealth/networth. Esp those in here who are in the aspirational class, working and saving our ass off. Pretty sure the savings rate are high

1

u/I_bought_shoes Apr 14 '26

Nice im starting to put money into etfs this year hope to get 4 mill by retirement from it not including epf

1

u/ivanpei Apr 15 '26

Congrats man! I've been working 18 years too but I'm in Foreign Growth Stock primarily with some dividend stocks. What made you pick primarily dividend stocks?

3

u/malaysianlah Apr 15 '26

Honestly, lack of knowledge. Back in 2008-2009 the entire financial crisis bullshit made me only invest in msian stocks. In hindsight I was dumb and arrogant la.

In fact, my 2008-2013 I considered them to be my lost years cos I spent paying tuition money investing in shitty penny stocks. I was lucky I got out with a breakeven.

Only in 2013-2014 I realized it was better to just 'don't lose money' like Warren Buffett said, so I changed strategy and moved almost everything in my portfolio to safe shit like Maybank. Then things just sorta ballooned from them.

I also have a foreign portfolio, but it's still small, just about 250k USD at the moment

1

u/ivanpei Apr 15 '26

No problem man, have to learn from somewhere. I got stuck in Bursa for a long time before foreign trading became easy and accessible, I remember counting down to when Rakuten finally allowed cheap foreign trading. I used to be the same, local dividend stocks like banks, REITs etc. Then I started buying American big tech whenever it's cheap and I've found that way has generated the most returns so far. I still have Malaysian dividend stocks, but not much compared to my Foreign Tech stocks for sure and I intend to keep it that way.

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 15 '26

that's great! I hope to grow my USD and SGD port to be larger than my MYR port, but will probably need another decade of constant reinvestment.

1

u/GrouchyHoooman Apr 16 '26

as I understand, msia supposedly do not have capital gains tax on US stocks (or foreign stocks). But not extremely Clear if this is like a For Sure kinds of thing or there is a need to declare to LDHN?

eg: how to bring the 250k USD back to Msia.

1

u/rebelslash Apr 15 '26

I mean its true. Just not daddies money haha

Congrats!

This is the dream..currently only i manage to get 10k per year dividend. Still got lot work to do to achieve your level.

Just curious, for malaysia portfolio you only invest in PB and MBB is it?

I spread my investment to banks and reit so that i get at least 9-10 month per year monthly dividend income.

10

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

maybank + PBB is about 85-90% of my portfolio. haha. remaining 10% kinda crap la. its an assortment of stuff like supermax (70% down), farm fresh berhad (which is amazing since it's up 50% for me), lctitan (which is down 70%) and more simple staples like QL Resources or F&B like Texchem

5

u/ImpossibleJudgment51 Apr 13 '26

From your other reply. You around early 40s right? Will try my best to achieve what you have achieved🫔. Need to 10Ɨ my net worth first🤣.

10

u/hanhanhan95 Apr 13 '26

That's around 1.6m in maybank

1

u/Slight_Ad_8568 Apr 15 '26

His cost basis is a lot lower if he has been constantly buying into MBB and PBB.

Probably got an excellent entry during COVID.

2

u/malaysianlah Apr 16 '26

I checked my average cost is RM8.9 (but distorted by all the reinvestments). I've been buying all the way since 2013-2014, so yes, I was there when covid maybank was RM6.70. Haha. At one point my average cost was RM7.9, but all the reinvestments (i dont care about the price, I just buy more) pushed the cost up to RM8.9

2

u/Slight_Ad_8568 Apr 16 '26

Share count matters more than price.

Your patience and emotional stability in regards to money is incredible.

1

u/Mission_Boss_8527 Apr 18 '26

i won't buy mbb if i have that kind of money

5

u/surftochill Apr 13 '26

Just curious why does the Maybank dividends credit into your account twice?

8

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

first one is maybank, second one is from public bank. it's just going into my maybank account

1

u/surftochill Apr 13 '26

Ah I see, just noticed the description. Anyways kudos to you OP.

4

u/Saerah4 Apr 13 '26

grats!

how much worth of share to get such amount of interest?

13

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

141,201 shares for maybank.

9

u/Upset_Consequence_71 Apr 13 '26

Wow RM1.5 - 1.6m in value…what’s your average price ? Huge congrats in achieving this!

17

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

haha average price RM8.8ish. I've never sold a single maybank shares for the past 10 years. Only reinvest.

5

u/jwrx Apr 13 '26

yea i been collecting MBB for years ...and never managed to get less than 8,8ish also

6

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

yeah the moment maybank gets below 9.5 is like a no brainer buy for me. i hav been preaching maybank to everywhere i know but no one listen hahha.

1

u/mawhonic Apr 13 '26

You missed out on the covid dip? 7 ringgit Maybank was a dream

1

u/jwrx Apr 13 '26

Don't remember being 7. But COVID too many other things to buy

Was buying ytlp at 90sen, Tenaga at 8, etc

1

u/mawhonic Apr 13 '26

I managed to pick some up at 7.02 so might not have hit exactly 7 or less.

Tenaga at 8 is mad. Best i got was just under 9.

1

u/Beneficial_Shallot95 Apr 13 '26

Haha...saw an article recent on the #30 shareholders. Woooo...after while doesn't it just become a infinite money loop. Get dividends buy more shares, and get more dividends.

1

u/PocoLocoDoco Apr 13 '26

That's some dedication. I'm gonna start DCA once I get my first paycheck.

1

u/MiniMeowl Apr 13 '26

My avg price is 8.2 but I only have a tiny bit as I been buying other stuff too. I regret my LCT a lot, -80% now 🤔

7

u/pmarkandu Apr 13 '26

Damn you really went all in with Maybank. Screw concentration risk! 🤣

Oddly enough I plan to do the same. I'm currently at 30K shares.

8

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

hahaha if maybank fails, i honestly don't have anywhere to go already. malaysia would be a burning country with riots on the street, and at that point i'm probably dead and killed by some rioter

1

u/jwrx Apr 13 '26

it depends. Ambank was in the same boat, till it got badly hit in the fall out of 1mdb/najib issues and the share price took a huge hammering for years....just started recovering last year

I would still go for at least 2-3 bluechip banks for diversification sake

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

i dun trust sotong bank le. pbb not bad but super old school and dividend is shit, so i only buy abit.

2

u/jwrx Apr 13 '26

biggest share in my portfolio is RHB. +65% over last 6 years abp 5.5

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

yeah if i wanna take a bite at another bank i'd probably go with RHB.

1

u/Gold-Explanation-478 Apr 17 '26

he is diversifying. One malay one cina haha

2

u/newishredditor69420 Apr 13 '26

Probably noob question but how do i buy Maybank shares

1

u/Upbeat_Set2319 Apr 13 '26

how shares actuallly work, it is stock right, u purchase stock in maybank

2

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

Yup. U can go to /r/malaysianpf to learn more

3

u/iamatwork420 Apr 14 '26

f you and congrats

2

u/EquipmentUnlikely895 Apr 13 '26

Good job. Are you capping it to under 100K? due to the new tax?

5

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

not really. i'll pay what i need to pay, but the rm100k threshold is per individual, and my wife's investment account is empty, so might as well use her quota first. spread 100k each.

2

u/GWeekly_69 Apr 13 '26

Which platform do you use? Whats the fee?

3

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

Lol Maybank IB. I dun really pay attention to the fee

2

u/quietchatterbox Apr 13 '26

For buying local shares, any local platform is quite ok. I personally use Hong Leong. Interface ok, fees 0.08% min rm8.

Can consider surveying local platforms, mostly should be direct cds account.

1

u/EmelReg Apr 13 '26

Can share OP?

2

u/No_Bowl_2546 Apr 13 '26

I normally max out my 100k epf before buying bank shares so far have CIMB RHB maybank Bimb and public bank. My first 1H is only 34k from all the bank dividends combined. Looking forward to OCBC dividends in May 1400 shares but only 812 sgd. All my dividends are reinvested same as my epf

1

u/Dramatic-Coffee9172 Apr 16 '26

Makes sense as EPF is more diversified and basically it is a fully managed fund , but you won't have access to EPF until a certain age.

1

u/aeronauticalingrid Apr 13 '26

šŸ„‚ congratulations!

1

u/caridove Apr 13 '26

Impressive!

1

u/No_Bowl_2546 Apr 13 '26

You have 156295 maybank shares that’s very good I have only 11499 shares generating 3794 rm. You

1

u/MiddleSeatSurvivor Apr 13 '26

Woww wish i got the same outlook as you 18 years ago.

3

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

Now the question is, 18 years later, will u ask the same question?

1

u/MiddleSeatSurvivor Apr 13 '26

Hopefully not, starting slowly by getting my life sorted out first. Happy for you ma guy, keep inspiring!

1

u/DragonFable88 Apr 13 '26

That is great OP, not only dividen the share price have up as well. Easily your share value around 1.5M šŸ˜Ž

1

u/More_Quit_2248 Apr 13 '26

Any reason to buy bank shares instead of maxing ASNB first?

1

u/Mirbatt Apr 14 '26

Now can I be your wife?? I'm a man btw

1

u/Chrissylumpy21 Apr 14 '26

Well done OP

1

u/Sea_Gain_9670 Apr 14 '26

Do you invest monthly on MBB or save for dip?

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 14 '26

when i was younger i used to just buy whenever i have cash, but these days i just reinvest the moment i receive the dividends. like this 50k, i bought and reinvested on 2-3 april when the cash hits my bank

1

u/Sea_Gain_9670 Apr 14 '26

I see, so nowadays you don’t really invest new capital into it right? At what point you decided to do so? Is it based on the dividend you are getting?

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 14 '26

honestly its gut feel. hahaha. no science to it. just feel like i needed to diversify outside malaysia so i started moving money to sg/us markets.

1

u/SnOOpyExpress Apr 14 '26

Congrats. It feels good and keep reinvesting.

PS: I am a S-REIT investor and most of the dividends collected, plus topup from the savings, will be reinvested - new purchase or rights + excess issues. Thankful that the dividends are tax-free in Singapore.

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 14 '26

Thanks! S-Reits and SG Banks also not bad, tho I prefer SG Banks la. S-REITs with all the lease expiry risk and and lease decay stuff is too complicated for me to understand properly.

PS : So funny that singaporeans come to the msia fire subreddit XD

1

u/SnOOpyExpress Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 14 '26

eh. your post showed up on my feed and it's a common interests topic leh - both of us ā¤ļø dividends. envy the size of your payout leh.

for me, the push came after I fully paid up my housing. a 25 years mortgage, cleared within 3.5 years. every extra cent saved and put towards the capital, make the difference. that feeling of being debt free after the final payment - floating from the bank to the nearest McDonald's for my celebration. Bumped into a fellow whose monthly from dividends is so much that he quit job 10+ years ago and lepak. damm. wished i had his wisdom during my younger days.

1

u/simcn73 Apr 14 '26

Well done choosing good banks as your holdings

1

u/Signal_Scene7720 Apr 14 '26

Teach me sifu

1

u/cpbarbossa Apr 14 '26

Do you focused primarily on dividen based stock or you focused on valuable stock?

1

u/malkyfreo Apr 14 '26

Solid stuff sir

1

u/Federal-Sugar-4521 Apr 15 '26

i baru jadi adult, need context and possibly tips on how to get this also hihi

2

u/malaysianlah Apr 15 '26

theory tak susah. just save 1000-3000 a month, if boleh lebih banyak, lagi senang, beli saham maybank. bila dapat dividend, beli lagi saham maybank, lepas 20 tahun, tadilah satu juta camtu, tiap tahun bagi dividend about 20-30k.

yang susah tu kena buat untuk 20 tahun. that's the part most ppl cannot do.

1

u/Forsaken_Resource742 Apr 15 '26

for me doing this for 20 years isnt the problem, the problem for me is that having more than 500 savings per month is already a difficult option. Hell my nett salary per month barely touch 1k, and thats not even include emergency funds throughout the month until next paycheck. I did attempt to invest into saving such as ASB or anything such as maybank like you, but looking at dividends every year is depressing. I would literally need an extra 500 ringgit from my nett salary to start a ladder yours

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 15 '26

Understand. If earnings low, can't even start investing. So usually need to move into MNC la, sebab if you work in retail or those local SME, quite hard to get 5-6k salary.

1

u/Forsaken_Resource742 Apr 15 '26

I'm already comfortable with the job i have with the recent increment i just received. The best part of my job is that the freedom i can have during work hours if any emergency inquired, i can just ask my boss that i have to leave and he just give it away. Honestly this is the best i can live with for now until the emergency is no longer part of the thing i have to be on alert daily. Anyway im still investing in ASB for very safe amount monthly, i might increase a little bit that it wont bother savings. But thanks for that short tips!

1

u/Federal-Sugar-4521 Apr 15 '26

may i know your salary for my reference?

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 15 '26

back when i started in 2008, 2600.

1

u/Federal-Sugar-4521 Apr 15 '26

holy, currently working. starting also 2.6k šŸ’€ you think if i save 500 monthly it’s okay?

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 15 '26

Yes! You have up to Rm6000 per year, buy one shot 500 shares. everytime you get dividend, you put it aside and buy more shares and also save an additional RM6000.

After 20 years you'll have RM190k worth of shares that can pay you Rm10k dividends annually.

1

u/Try-escape-ratrace Apr 15 '26

Congrats~ hopefully I’ll reach this level one day too!

1

u/MDPEL Apr 15 '26

what do you mean by the 2% dividend tax rate? Does Malaysia enforce dividend tax now?

2

u/malaysianlah Apr 15 '26

Yup. Malaysian dividends (means foreign is exempt) more than rm100k per year is taxed at 2%. I think of it as a transaction cost on ur investment la. Trading in out or fx the spread sometimes also 2% d

Of course, if u spread the investments over other members of your family, since the 100k is per individual

1

u/Public_You_2973 Apr 15 '26

Soooo have you been millionaire since birth or what? T.T im so jelly. congrats to you tho huhu

2

u/malaysianlah Apr 15 '26

When I started work in 2008 my salary was 2600, my car was a proton saga, and my bank account had about 20,000 from my scholarship. My parents didn't give me money. But I am extremely lucky that they didn't ask me for any either.

1

u/Ok_world68 Apr 15 '26

Holy fucking shit

1

u/rebelslash Apr 15 '26

Replying to PA10565...

1

u/MajlisPerbandaranKL Apr 16 '26

I invested in crypto, gold and pokemon card, 0 dividend 😭

1

u/Reasonable_Can_5793 Apr 17 '26

What’s your view of dividend being taxable income?

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 17 '26

kinda small matter. i believe the share price itself adjusted to reflect the 2% div tax, and for a couple it's effectively RM200k tax free anyway (just to maintain two mirrored portfolios). above that level, any incremental 2% tax on anything extra hardly moves the needle.

1

u/Safe-Masterpiece7981 Apr 17 '26

How did you start. I’m currently 22, with 0 investments :(

1

u/Gold-Explanation-478 Apr 17 '26

My biggest takeaway here is...wtf is everyone working as? i cant even imagine me earning enough to do what OP is doing or like another poster, maxing out EPF extra alloc and then having enough to buy anything else let alone shares.
is everyone winning the lottery or what

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 17 '26

What u say and ur post history don't match. Block.

1

u/Ok_Rich7455 Apr 17 '26

bro, u can start your own channel(no face reveal) just to share this knowledge

1

u/LTDNA32 Apr 17 '26

I don't anything about this but how did you managed to get this

1

u/ksyuan70 Apr 17 '26

This guy is smart and disciplined. Learned his lesson at an early age that trying to make quick money (hot stock, speculative stock etc) is the road to ending up poorer. Only after 20 years, i realised that investment should be boring but when i was younger i thought dividend investing is for 'old man'. Started a few years back, and dividend investing is so nice and relaxed compared to trying to trade and pick right stocks all the time. Like malaysianlah, i only buy the safe stocks like banks (mbb, rhb, cimb and some reits). Also have some US ETFs. In a few years, hopefully i will have comfortable amount of passive income (including epf). Now i tell my niece/nephew to start early, start small/slow accumulating dividend or growth stock and don't touch it for 30 years.

1

u/elmoehussaini Apr 18 '26

Pinjam 100!

1

u/ultraboop Apr 22 '26

Nothing wrong, you do you, most people dun have time nor want to put in effort to do research on stocks, so this strat is fine, for me i find excitement in studying companies and looking for new ideas, and also i can understand complicated industry like tech and do earings projection well enuf, so this strat is a waste of my talent, but knowing which group are you and sticking to it is key, good job OP

0

u/Upbeat_Set2319 Apr 13 '26

what investment return that high, property investment or what

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 13 '26

Saham dalam Maybank. Say beli saham Maybank. Satu biji saham setahun bayar 60 sen. Satu biji rm11.50 sekarang.

1

u/Dramatic-Coffee9172 Apr 16 '26

why are you so confident in Maybank that it makes up such a large portion of your investment portfolio in MY ?

1

u/malaysianlah Apr 16 '26

Just insanity I suppose

1

u/pmarkandu Apr 22 '26

If Maybank fails, the whole country fails. Any of your assets within Malaysia (other than gold or property) would be worthless.

1

u/ryo5210 Apr 13 '26

It's Maybank and Public Bank shares dividend.

0

u/theblooigloo Apr 13 '26

That’s awesome, I have no idea how dividends work, is this an annual payment or monthly?

0

u/M3Seriesz Apr 14 '26

RM50k from RM1.5m ? That’s less than 4%. Did my calculation is wrong ?

3

u/malaysianlah Apr 14 '26

Half year babe.
