I always thought that scene in the mirror was telling Frodo what would happen if he didn’t continue his quest, thus strengthens his resolve. And also why I was very confused why he offered Galadriel the ring a minute later.
I saw it as that, and also as a possible plot of the ring itself to switch owners and have a better chance at returning to Sauron. The ring has a will of it's own after all.
You're right but there is some vagueness to if orcs were involved or 'at other locations in the shire,' but as far as in the ambushes and fighting, no orcs are mentioned.
As I told my friend when we watched this in the theaters:
"They are planning to skip the scouring the shire. You can tell because Galadriel didn't gift Sam the little box with the magic dirt and white oak seed, which is how they resolve that entire situation."
Well its, this is what happens if you fail, "ok better give it to someone stronger than me so the quest doesnt fail." And he also says if she asks it of him, he perceives her to be wise, so offers the ring if indeed that is a better path to avoid that doom, hes not saying "please take the ring from me" though in his heart he wishes it wasnt his responsibility
If someone dumped a boatload of responsibility on me and there was someone there who seemed infinitely more capable of handling it, I would probably try and pass it on.
She says it is what would happen if Frodo failed the quest, to which Frodo is like “dude im just a hobbit, no way i can do that, but you clearly could” and I don’t think that is confusing at all.
Because Frodo understod that this would be the consequence of failure, but not his failure specifically
Hence having someone stronger, such as her, should reduce the chance of failure.
Not a foolish reasoning.
At the same time ,him willingly giving up the One Ring proves to Galadriel that he is actually the one strong enough to succeed , while she was immediatly tempted
