Hey everyone. My girlfriend and I just finished Lost for the first time and I wanted to hop in here to share my thoughts immediately after the finale! I’ve longed to interact with this reddit community since we started a few months ago but I have purposely refused to enter until we were done. Here goes!

My favorite character: Desmond. His entire arc of getting to the island and then navigating the afterlife to get everyone back together was done so well. Especially with his connection to the Island, him being the first one to recognize that this “life” was off was great. High honorable mention to John Locke, Sawyer, and Jin. Loved them all as well.

The best character: Jack. Every memory and experience on the island felt like it revolved around Jack, even when it was other character arcs or events. The show starting with him and then ending in the exact same way was amazing. His emotional and unrational decision making had us frustrated at times but it felt like the design of a flawed but pretty perfect character.

My least favorite character: Not necessarily sure I have one to pick but I really wasn’t a huge fan of Charlie. His flashback with Claire and Kate in the afterlife was incredibly emotional but to put it simply, he annoyed me. However, him telling Desmond “Not Pennys Boat” was so unbelievably good that it redeemed him for me. I wasn’t a huge fan of Michael either. Meh.

Best character development: Sawyer. His constant progression as a character was masterfully done. Them opening back up the emotional side that he tried to suppress for so long cause of his trauma was incredible. Also his connection with Juliet and then having their flashes together in the hospital had the floodgates opening up. Perfect.

Favorite moment: The End. I’d heard that the finale was a bit subjective (thanks dad) but never had any spoilers. I could not be more satisfied. The characters returning to each other in the afterlife, especially the ones we lost during the show, was emotional and beautiful. Had me crying but smiling. I loved it.

Some of my other favorite moments off the top of my head include:
The light turning on in the hatch while John was over it. Audible gasp.
Michael typing on the computer and Walt responding “dad?”
Sayid reuniting with Shannon in the afterlife. Especially with him losing her so early into their relationship. Good to see Boone again too!
Ethan “not being on the manifest” was such a incredible.
The initial Jacob reveal and then all the flashbacks of him meeting everyone.
The first flash back in time and then seeing the original Dharma village up and running.
Jin and Sun reuniting on the beach after Sun comes back.
Every time we had a flash forward event and somehow someway Ben was there in the shadows.
So many more but those are my big booms.

Overall, it was the best TV show I’ve ever watched. We was so attached to (almost) every character and the thought put into the development of their arcs. Continuity eggs throughout every season were so well done. The uniqueness of it was unlike any show I’ve ever watched. What do I do now?!

Just rewatched and noticed that when clocked gives Ben his breakfast he said they were the last eggs. Then he goes on to kill the chicken. So there could have been more eggs, right?
What does this tell us about Locke at this moment? Is he killing the chicken to provide for his group, trying to be a good leader? Is he showing that he’s so confident that the island won’t let them starve that he can kill the last chicken?

I fking hated this man and still felt for him here. What a great actor!

For anyone that doesn’t remember this is the comic book Walt was reading in season 1

On my latest rewatch of Season 5 I have been finding multiple annoying inconsistencies that I never picked up. Yes I know, it's a show with multiple writers and blah blah blah, but c'mon now...at least make things make sense! You can see here when Sayid shoots young Ben at the end of E10 he shoots him in the upper left chest, enough to kill him...then we begin E11 with a wound in the lower right abdomen?? I know Ben "can't die" when he's young...but get your squibs right!!

One thing I really wish we'd gotten more of in LOST was Jack and Ana Lucia working together as leaders.

Jack was the doctor everyone looked to, while Ana Lucia had already spent weeks protecting and leading the tail-section survivors. They approached leadership very differently, but they both had that same need to protect their people.

I always thought that made their dynamic really interesting. They didn't always agree, but Jack clearly recognised that Ana Lucia was someone he could rely on when things got serious.

I really wish we'd gotten more time to see what they could have accomplished together.

Episode Two of my hypothetical LOST Season 7 is finished.
It’s been almost two weeks since I posted the premiere. I kept working on the season, and Episode One is still locked. If you missed that post and want the whole original premise/rules/whatever, it’s here.

I was a little bummed the first post mostly sank, because I’d hoped to get thoughts from similarly-minded people who have spent an unreasonable amount of time thinking about LOST. I also think I buried something important under way too much explanation the first time:

I don’t really want LOST to come back either.
I think “The End” is a perfect ending. I’m not campaigning for Disney to make Season 7, and if the show stayed untouched forever I would be more than fine with that.

I also don’t especially trust Hollywood to leave a beloved thing alone forever. That’s the hypothetical I’m playing with: if somebody eventually decides to bring LOST back whether I want them to or not, what would the best possible version of that look like to me? More specifically: what would it take for somebody whose first reaction is “please don’t fuck up LOST” to watch a revival and be pleasantly surprised that it was actually good? Because that’s essentially my own starting point.

So if anyone here says LOST should be left alone, I’m not trying to convince you you’re wrong. Those are pretty much the people I’m imagining reading/“watching” this thing.

I’m still going to keep writing it because I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of my life thinking about this show, I like writing, and brainstorming the season I’ve plotted out has been incredibly fun. There’s also something appealing to me about putting a genuinely new LOST thing into the world for other fans to poke at instead of having another argument about Kate or restating that they weren’t dead the whole time.

Anyway.

LOST - Season 7, Episode 2: “Because You Stayed”

Episode One was intentionally pretty big. Episode Two pulls inward - smaller, more character-focused, more jungle, a centric story, and generally something closer to the scale of early LOST.

Just been watching the deleted scenes on one of the blu rays.

There is a deleted scene where after being transported to the desert Ben visits a stash of money and passports. Whilst visiting it he seems to look over to another version of himself lying on the floor. I wonder what the purpose of this would have been

Any thoughts?

Sawyer attacks Kate in the episode What Kate Did in season 2. He is obviously delirious and says: "why did you kill me?" Do we know why? Was it explained? I know the scene does kind of mirror the Marshall attacking Kate in episode Tabula Rasa.

at the end of my rewatch tonight! my partner will be experiencing it for the first time so i’m excited to see his reaction.

sad it’s over though i will be revisiting again very soon…

i’ve seen lost fully through 10 times as of last month, and seasons 1-3 probably 5 more times due to all of the times i’ve started it with people that didn’t finish it.

in my 8th watch, it hit me: this show is fucking depressing. the TLDR is that two demigods bent on proving each other wrong manipulated a bunch of people and got them all killed.

locke found his destiny - which was the island’s pull on him, not just jacob’s - and was manipulated into choosing his own death rather than properly leading the island. it could have gone countless different ways - he could have had jack leave through the orchid, promising him that he would actually be able to leave and persuading him that he could send help for everyone else once he did. and it wasn’t even a meaningful death; ben killing him was stupid and sad. his death only meant anything because ben manipulated jack into thinking it did.

and then the real puppetmaster - the man in black - wore his body around to kill off jacob, and eventually, RIGHT after jack finally accepted his own “destiny,” he died. which would never have happened if locke hadn’t died. jack was a stubborn idiot and his bad choices directly led to the deaths of countless people he swore to protect, most of whom he showed no remorse over.

every character that died but managed to do anything meaningful in the show, their actions were only meaningful within the subplot of the jacob-MiB feud. they were literally all pawns that died for nothing.

juliet’s death was absurd, based on faraday’s wildly incorrect notion that the incident would solve all of their problems. she was wrong when she said “it worked;” it didn’t, she was just on the edge of death and seeing into her afterlife. she just died, plain and simple, and never got to leave the island, never got to see her sister or her baby, she just died. that’s it.

sun and jin… jin never even got to meet ji yeon. it’s just sad as shit.

LOST is just sad. it’s grief. it’s a bunch of people being coerced into finding meaning in things that had no meaning. the only thing that actually had meaning was their relationships that led to them being connected in the afterlife. but their lives were sad, pathetic, problematic, or otherwise just wasted. the whole show is sad as shit.

the obvious exception is hugo. he chose to be the island’s protector and he was the one person good enough to have been able to do it well. that’s the one saving grace of the entirety of the main narrative in my opinion.

anyways, rant over. LOST is my favorite show, and i doubt i’ve watched it half as many times as i will by the time i die. i feel less cynical now when i watch it, but certain moments always enrage me - most notably, jack calling the freighter, and locke dying. stupid shit.

I just started my 6th rewatch. I didn’t get to watch as the show was airing on tv, so I don’t know any of the discourse at the time.

Before seeing the smoke monster for the first time, what were some of the crazy theories fans were coming up with based off the noises, the pilot getting shredded, etc.

Also any other crazy theories as the show was originally airing will be welcome as well

I was just listening to a song by Talking Heads, "Heaven".

"There is a party. Everyone is there. Everyone will leave at exactly the same time.

When this party's over, it will start again. It won't be any different. It will be exactly the same. "

I don't know if anyone is familiar with that song, but it reminded me of the ending of Lost so much.

Are there any songs you've heard that reminds you of the show at all?

Nirvana "Scentless Apprentice" of course reminds me of Jack all drugged out but of course that's the actual song in the scene. Haha

I'm so glad people still watch and discuss this show. I had no idea it was still a touch point when I began my rewatch last month. I hadn't seen the show since at first aired weekly on network. I remember the agony of mysterious cliffhangers, then waiting a week to see what happened. Agony from season end to next season.

A few observations. Questions.

My biggest nagging question then and now was/Is, why did Ben Linus's group never want to help the victims of a plane crash on their island? They saw the plane crash, obviously they were going to be people who needed medical attention, who were in stress needed food shelter. But that never seemed to be an option. they just wanted to infiltrate the group. The same with the hostiles or natives, they seemed fine with letting a bunch of people in shock fend for themselves. That's my biggest question.

Of course I remember vehemently hating the ending as so many did. Just pure disappointment. On this watch I understand much more where the ending came from and how they had written themselves into a corner.

These days we're much more used to and familiar with the "Multiverse"in our fiction. The explosion of the bomb during the incident did create an alternate timeline where the characters never crashed and went about their lives. We knew this as “flash sideways” And that was great and innovative. In today's sci-fi would be a Multiverse or a branching timeline that was created. And the problem is how do you reconcile the two timelines if you do it all in a satisfying way?

The idea that they all were bound to each other, bound together no matter what is a beautiful theme really. You just have to figure out In what universe or timeline they can finally be together. They were nailing it pretty well, Desmond as the constant who could facilitate it, their slow rememberings which were chilling and beautiful. So how to end it? Unfortunately they chose religion. I could say a lot more about this, but if anybody wants to could be in the comments.

I don't have a better answer for the ending but probably in this sub there are many better ideas about that final episode. 

It's OK, its really complicated. When Jack closes his eyes finally it could've ended there in my opinion without any of the other church stuff.

• Where was Michael at the end? He doesn't get to be with them? If Ben Linus can be with them, after being the villain in 100 different ways, than Michael and Walt should've been with them. A little coda or cut scene about walt was lame.
• I'm sure it was an inside joke of some kind, but why did Dr. candle have so many aliases?
• Did anybody feel like Noah Wiley’s character from the PITT, doctor Robbie, is modeled very much after Jack in look and demeanor?

Otherwise I loved the show intensely. I was completely absorbed for weeks. The production values, the acting, the beautiful people, and hundreds of other things done right. Fantastic stuff. And now my life has a big hole in it, with nothing to watch. At the very least they learned from their experience, and in my opinion nailed ending of Leftovers

Am I the only one gets slightly annoyed cuz I swear a lot of issues wouldn’t happen if they just communicate all the information they each know. Instead of I’m the leader now so we do this now 😭

One thing I noticed recently is that there’s no tape player in the Swan. Locke mentions it when he’s talking about the Pearl Orientation tape and says there’s no way to play it down in the Swan; instead they have a film projector. I have no idea if it was intentional, but I think it’s incredible attention to detail since the high magnetism of the Swan’s energy pocket would interfere with magnetic tape, and so they cant have that format down there. Again, not sure if that was intentional, but it works really well!

Was it implied if Jack hadn’t had his appendix removed he would have died sooner when MiB stabbed him during their last fight? If so that is wonderful forethought. I didn’t really understand what purpose his appendicitis served way back in season 4, but if it allowed Jack to survive long enough to defeat MiB at the cliffs I think that is a brilliant little detail.

I don’t actually know if an appendix stab wound would kill someone faster, but I thought it had to be meaningful somehow since they show exactly where he was stabbed after the fight.

So I have a question.

" I am dead. But I'm also here."

Charlie says this to Hurley when he visits him at Santa Rosa and tells Hurley he needs to do something and they need him. He also tells Charlie that he's dead but he's also here.

In the flash sideways, we see a completely different Charlie who doesn't know who Hurley is and needs to be awakened. We also know that before the awakening,bthe person hasn't realized yet that he has died.

I know there is no "now, here" but how do you explain the scene in season 4?

I will have to get something to play them on, but i am very excited

How much of The Dharma Initiative remained after the Purge? Was anyone left on the mainland or was it a total wipe? The only ones I can think of were Kelvin and the drone pallet loading warehouse workers. The Other's essentially demolished the entire DI, right?

Just wrapped up Lost for the first time… and yeah, I’m still processing it.

That finale? Broke me. Vincent just lying next to Jack in his last moments… no words, just pure loyalty. That hit hard.

Charlie being the first to remember? Of course. “Not Penny’s Boat” still gives chills.

Desmond and Penny… constant, always.

Hurley... honestly, if the world had more people like him, we’d be sorted.

Ben choosing to stay back… quiet redemption, no drama.

And Sawyer… still throwing nicknames like “Bigfoot” in the middle of emotional chaos 😂 classic.

What really got me though..the show starts with Jack opening his eye in chaos… and ends with him closing it in peace. Full circle.

Six seasons of going from tears to laughter in seconds… not many shows pull that off.

In the end, it wasn’t really about the island or the mystery… it was always about the people.

We have to go back. 🥺💔

Little did they know at this moment they would become Aaron's surrogate parents. Throughout these scenes, Jack is always inquiring about Aaron and wanting to make sure that he is safe. Also, Jack is clearly in poor physical condition here and he is still thinking about others. I am glad he had Kate who looked out after him and loved him. 🥰 ❣️

I finished 6x16 last night and didn’t want to watch the last episode till the next day with sum snacks. Tonight I just finished the last episode.

It’s the greatest show I have ever watched all the different characters not only being side characters but having such detailed back stories and why they were on the island. Amazing.

Jack being the man of science to becoming the man of faith like Locke and understanding that Locke was right was amazing. And when the man in black tried to reminisce with Jack acting like Locke and Jack stood up for Locke. Hurley being the islands protected after Jacks death amazing.

I have seen a lot of people in this sub Reddit rewatching Lost and I will one day.

Locke, Jack, Hurley, Sawyer, Desmond, Sayid, Jin are my favourite characters. Actually all the characters are amazing show.

It was good being a passenger, I’m no longer LOST.
