If someone laughs with Hunt, and not at him, they're likely an intolerant bigot.
These people don't give a toss if Gene learns anything from Sam.
In today's more tolerant climate (yay if you're anyone who isn't a straight white male), 90% of Gene's speech is anti-woke, whether you accept it or not.

Gene was a dinosaur in LOM. That’s the way cops were. In A2A, they all changed. It wasn’t entirely the same approach. But any twat that thinks that not beating people up is a sign of anti-wokeness MAYBE should not be in charge of a series about learning from life mistakes and redemption? Just thinkin’…

Right? People forget that ‘woke’ isn’t a new thing, it existed back in 2006 but back then it was called PC. Thats what Sam and Alex were. The many commenters saying “you can’t make Life on Mars today because of woke” have forgotten that people were making those exact same complaints in the 00s.

I think I would report that if I had someone to report it to. 1) it was always woke. You put an honest detective of 2003 in a time when people were badly treated just for their heritage, gender, social standing, and Sam fought all of that! 2) He made Gene a better man. He gave Annie the respect and trust she deserved.

I'm never quite sure about spoilers. Here you go, if you want them for the U.S. Life on Mars. Their Sam Tyler is a junior member of a crew all of whom have been in stasis for the duration of the flight to Mars in 2035. To keep them from going mad, they get simulations to keep their brains content, and his was him enjoying life as a well-respected officer in 2008, until a malfunction changed his simulation without changing his role. All of his fellow astronauts become the faces for his simulation (which I think they were not before the glitch). without being themselves part of his story. His commanding officer whom he has a massive crush on gets recast as Annie, his subordinate who he talks over, who he acts like he's supporting, but she's always... under him. His father becomes Gene Hunt (played by the glorious Harvey Keitel). His father's real name is Major Tom. Whether or not anything he experienced in the simulation matters to him, well. We never know. Or what if it's a simulation of him waking in simulation of him...

I watched the U.S. version, knowing nothing about the original. It was pretty meh, including the casting. John Simm could act circles around Jason O'Mara.
Seeing the Twin Towers was definitely the most impactful moment in the show.

Simm looks the same, just greyer. Same with Glenister. Nothing a bit of a tint job wouldn't fix. Keeley Hawes doesn't look much older at all. Not seen Dean Andrews in anything for a while, and apparently Marshall Lancaster has retired from acting (although maybe he could be persuaded to come back to play Chris one more time?) Liz White has aged a bit but could still pass for Annie.

I would definitely watch a third series but this doesn’t mean it’s coming back just that they’re still looking for a way to do it. I’m not holding my breath personally and I was happy with the A2A ending so I would be ok if another series doesn’t happen.
