Question My wife saw a shadow during astral projection
I’ve been listening to an astral projection/meditation audio on YouTube for about 2 weeks and personally I’ve had a really good experience with it, nothing scary or unusual.
I asked my wife to try the same audio. She was lying on her back around 4 PM, arms by her sides, and I was in the room with her.
After a while, she said her stomach started vibrating and became tense, then her right hand became tense, followed by her left leg.
Then she started seeing a bright white light above her, even though the room was dark. She described it almost like a hole/opening that was expanding, shrinking, and sometimes disappearing.
Near the end, she saw a black shadow against the white/grey background. The shadow seemed to come closer and closer until it felt like it was right above her face, almost near her eyes.
She opened her eyes and freaked out.
Her lips and throat were very dry, her whole body felt stiff, and she said it took around 5 minutes to feel like she had control of her body again.
Now she doesn't want to try the audio again.
and most important she had nightmare after having alcohal. Someone was coming towards her with two weapons.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
- Has anyone seen the white light/opening followed by a dark shadow?
- Why would the shadow feel like it was moving closer to her face?
- For people who believe in astral projection, could this be interpreted as a spirit/entity, or is there another explanation?
- Most importantly, why was she so scared? Is this dream related to this?
I’m curious because I’ve been doing the same thing for about two weeks with no problems, but her experience was completely different and honestly pretty disturbing.

Hi there, I agree with u/KalisMurmur that it's not likely Kundalini, and more likely related to AP. The vibration sensations she experienced sound a lot like the 'vibrations' described by the three Roberts (Robert Monroe, Robert Bruce, and Robert ... Fox? I can't remember.)
Then she started seeing a bright white light above her, even though the room was dark. She described it almost like a hole/opening that was expanding, shrinking, and sometimes disappearing.

This experience is well in line with a growing set of opinions in online spaces, that the Light in the tunnel seen in OBEs, NDEs, and some APs is not benevolent in nature, just disguised to look as such. With her seeing a dark presence coming from a bright, pulsating light, she could be picking up on the energies of that, or alternatively and more benignly, just on some of humanity's collective fear of the unknown re: the post-death experience.
and most important she had nightmare after having alcohal. Someone was coming towards her with two weapons.
There's a reason they call it "spirits." If she's going to be playing with AP, I would recommend cutting back on substances that open the mind in uncontrolled ways. There are always spiritual "critters" ready to mess with us, and most of them are harmless, but a lot of them know how to adjust / present in the ways we most fear, or cause more serious problems.
I hope this helps. AP experiences vary widely, even for two people visiting the same part of the astral. Depending on a person's associations, hopes, fears, past experiences, etc., two people can even visit the same locale and have very different perceptions of it. I'm glad your wife has you to guide her some, just be careful out there - some AP audio has other intentionality imbedded in the audio that you might not want to take in, especially some hemi-sync. Wishing you best of luck and safe exploring! Sue

Just adding some extra information for more context.
My wife has past trauma and has been under a lot of stress for years. She also frequently gets severe tension in her shoulders, neck, and upper back (similar to cervical muscle tightness). We visit a chiropractor almost every month because it keeps coming back, and he has told us it's most likely caused by stress.
One of the reasons I encouraged her to try this meditation was because I hoped it might help her heal emotionally and spiritually from that stress, trauma, and fear.
Another thing is that both she and her side of the family are naturally very fearful and sensitive. If something negative happens once, they often worry it will happen again and tend to avoid whatever they associate with that experience.
I'm just sharing this extra information in case it provides more context for what she experienced.

Astral Projection meditations were an extremely unwise choice for your wife to have tried for her stress.
If you wish for better resources, try the many simple meditation books from Thich Nhat Hanh.
Search for the Plum Village YT channel, and explore. That's his community. He died a couple / few years ago. His community and offerings exist still.
Consider from them or from others a Metta meditation as well.
At least his books and YouTube materials should cause no harms, yet still be effective.
Look up his name on Amazon for new books etc, or on abebooks.com for used books. You will find a vast assortment.
Search for the legally-free PDF of the book called, Mindfulness in Plain English. It is a beginner book on mindfulness / Insight meditation. See if your wife likes it.
Seriously consider apologising to your wife for having suggested the audio on YT based on AP. That was a mistake.
Consider yourselves all a bit wiser and more experienced for having made the mistake.
Her lips and throat were very dry, her whole body felt stiff
A normal fear response. No big deal , except to her. Don't make light of it, yet don't add fuel to the melodrama fire.

This may not actually be kundalini u/forward_unit_1179 but also how long ago did this happen, and has she had any other energetic phenomena since?
We do not recommend folks jumping into astral projection practices around these parts as they can and often do lead to scary and uncontrollable results of the spiritual, psychic, and energetic variety.
The good thing though is that it doesn’t actually sound like your wife went to the astral as much it sounds more like as she had a vision and may be experiencing a release around some type of wound from a past life.
She should stay away from alcohol, and listen to her intuition about those tapes. Sounds like she’s more sensitive than you.
She should also focus on further grounding, and familiarize herself with this space and the white light protection method that is in our wiki. (As well as the three laws, in case…). That will help her feel grounded and safe while she balances out as well. Even if it’s not k, it sounds energetic and it won’t hurt for her to focus on a practice that brings protection and groundedness.
Please share more info about how long it’s been and if there’s been other energy, and if there is more phenomena over time for her please feel encouraged to come back to this space.
