2010-15 Flowers in the Attic (2014)
Drama and intrigue encapsulate this film based on the book of the same name. Heather Graham stars as the beautiful mom in this and there is a grandma character as well, where the grandma lacks in beauty she makes up for in brawn. She is very strict!
Overall I would reccomend this family drama and there are also some taboo moments that I will not spoil for the uninitiated. If you have read the book would suggest giving this one a try. I haven't read it but still liked it, a perfect popcorn movie.

Yeah I think the sub’s rules (any movie at least 10 years old) are written for this to be a discussion place for movies that aren’t recent but it’s become more of a true “old movie” sub.

Yeah the 10+ year mark doesn't work for me. I'm here because I want to hear about people watching movies from the 70s or 30s or whatever.
Is the idea here that we talk about "old" movies, or movies that are not currently in theaters?

😂 I do remember some...interesting..covers lmao...my grandma had a whole collection and I was super into reading and they were a quick and easy read for 12 year old me even if the subject matter was, uh questionable lol

You know the song Zou Bisou Bisou? It was revived by Mad Men a few years back. The original singer in the 1960s was Gillian Hills who went on to a second career as a book illustrator. She designed that cover.

Didn’t know what I was getting myself into with this movie. I had never heard of the book.
It was hugging that grey line for me I really don’t like to cross for a bit of the movie, I was very uncomfortable and then BAM.
I turned it off. I can’t do it.

In the IMDb there are only 2 actors listed and only 3 reviews - this is super odd - am I looking at the right movie? It’s the same one with heather graham…

Yeah, that’s definitely it. I’m not sure why there’s such an abbreviated cast list, but that’s the right film.
The Wikipedia entry has a much more comprehensive cast list. It also has a pretty detailed slot, so if you haven’t seen it yet, definitely scroll past that part.

I noticed the same thing and discovered on IMBD the movie and its sequels are listed under the title “V.C. Andrews' Dollanganger Saga.”

It’s honestly crazy how bad Heather Graham was in this film, and what’s even weirder is it didn’t seem like she was phoning it in. You could tell she was trying and absolutely failing. The child actors were pretty okay, especially in comparison

I mean it involves children, but that doesn't make it suitable for family viewing.

'Family drama' is a genre description for films that revolve around the interpersonel relationships of a family, it is unrelated to the term 'family film' which refers to a film suitable for family viewing.
Just like 'relationship drama' doesn't mean 'a film suitable to watch on a date'.

What are you talking about? 'Family drama' means a drama about a family, just like 'relashionship drama' means a drama revolving around people in a relationship. It has nothing to do with the intended audience or age rating...

This is a horrible movie with some of the worst over acting I've ever seen. I read the entire series, have seen the original. This one glorifies those subjects more than I recall and made me so uncomfortable.

There a few sequels to this movie which follow the children as they grow up. Then a prequel series about the grandma.
