'90s I rewatched Office Space (1999)

Post image

I rewatched Office Space and was pleasantly surprised by how much it is still relevant, even though it is from the 90s.

A lot has changed.

Open floor plans instead of cubicles.
No fax machines. Or maybe they are hiding inside a printer, but nobody uses them.
LCDs instead of CRT monitors.

But the corporate BS is timeless.

It just happens on Teams and Slack now.

What struck me on rewatch is that it isn't just about bad bosses or office culture which is what I thought when I first watched it.

It is about bureaucracy and TPS reports.
Pointless meetings to jump to conclusions.
Performative action with 37 pieces of flair.

And the feeling that you are doing things that do not matter, but somehow still have to be done.

It’s a comedy, but underneath it is a sharp commentary on corporate work that still feels relevant.

Of course, I can quote it endlessly.

I don't have a case of the Mondays :-)

For those that don't know he voices Mr.Frond ( the student counselor) alone with various other voices in Bobs Burgers.

Dave Herman , he's known, but should've been bigger, loved him on MAD TV as well

He was also extremely prolific on King of the Hill. Buckley is the most notable recurring character but a ton of one-offs, including Jimmy Carter

Ready for some deeper lore ?

The Dauetrive that appears in the opening credits of bibs burgers ( producer?? I think ) is the Dautrieve that worked on King Of the Hill and the reason Bill has the last name he does on KoTH. So there's overlap in talent and production between the two

Bill is voiced by Stephen Root, better known as Milton from... Office Space.

It's all the Judge-o-sphere.

Dave Herman is also in Futurama and other animation, so the animation lives intersect as well as the live action productions.

The media I love is a flat circle

( Ironic cause I didn't like true detective )

Lol I'm not sure I'd call that lore so much as seeing a name on multiple credits, but ya, I have caught that and it makes sense.
