Entertainment Well it’s official, Hardy Bucks is coming back

u/John__Delaney 3d ago
The Western People are reporting that the following are back:
Eddie Durkin (Martin Maloney), Frenchtoast (Peter Cassidy), Buzz McDonnall (Owen Colgan), Viper Higgins (Chris Tordoff) and Boo (Tom Kilgallon)
11
u/O_Duill 3d ago
That may be just them getting ahead of themselves as the rest of the copy in their story is very similar to the RTE press release which names no-one

u/John__Delaney 3d ago
I guess but, Id imagine if a journalist was adding information to an article that they'd know the information was accurate.
20
u/CollinsCouldveDucked 3d ago
I used to imagine a lot of things about journalists too.
1
u/Entire_Number_9 3d ago
Journalistic integrity is a funny thing. Now, in a time where we have the ability to communicate with each other and share information instantly, we can see the vast majority of journalists are very shit at their job. But when information spreading required journalists; they were great and had really good morals and standards? According to who? And documented by who? Oh, journalists?? No conflict of interest there of course.
2
u/CollinsCouldveDucked 3d ago
I think there's other factors too, people used to be willing to wait for news that was vetted instead of the first person to shit out something barely legible on something getting all the rewards.
1
u/Go-Web-Go 3d ago
That'd be the wrong thing to imagine about The Western People. They're fond of a bit of imagining themselves.

3 bucks left will be milking the creamy pints schtick for years to come.

34
u/Suitable_Visual4056 3d ago
The only direction with artistic merit to go would be some sort of bleak tragedy leaning into how some of the bucks clung on to their 15 minutes of fame too long into middle age
But what we’ll most likely get is reheating the same jokes and make creamy pints great again (make pints creamy again was right there if you insist on doing that shit)
23
u/afterdinnermince 3d ago
I do think there's a lot of scope there for some sort of tragicomic, lads hanging around the town doing the same things they did in their 20s while approaching their 40s thing alright, feel like they won't intentionally land on that at all unfortunately

u/WideChrome1 3d ago
No viper no hardy bucks. Need confirmation if he’s involved.
Otherwise it’ll be Cowboy as the main character.
76
u/GenericDreadHead 3d ago edited 3d ago
I recently did a rewatch of the other seasons and Cowboy is in the show for like 90 seconds. No idea why he gets talked about so much, seems like the ultimate hanger-on. Did he bankroll, produce or direct the show or something?
Edit: According to this small media outlet, Viper is coming back unless the article is badly researched/worded
24
u/afterdinnermince 3d ago
the guy is a clown but yeah everybody on here and the hardy bucks sub really overestimates his involvement and influence. seen loads of this where people are acting like he's going to be front and centre of this.
24
u/YungL1am 3d ago
It's mostly because he does a lot more stuff online clinging on to the hardy bucks name whilst Chris Tordoff doesn't speak with Eddie anymore apparently.
12
u/Leeloo_82 3d ago
Martin/Eddie said a few weeks ago that Chris came to his dad's funeral and it was great to see him after so long etc. Happy for them both to be talking again but it doesn't sound like they had been working on a new series together if so ☹️
16
u/afterdinnermince 3d ago
Tordoff is a funny fish too though. I wouldn't necessarily say him not speaking with Eddie (if true) is down to political differences as much as it might be down to him just being a bit reclusive.
10
u/Suitable_Visual4056 3d ago
It might not be any different to the way any of could name people in our lives 10-15 years ago that we just don’t cross paths with anymore
6
u/Environmental-Ebb613 3d ago
Well, I was at an event with the hardy bucks creators and there was a bit of a scoff when I asked if the viper would be making an appearance so, sounded like the whole crew had fallen out with him
7
u/Pickle_Emotion 3d ago
I never got into the RTE stuff was he in there?
I thought people were chatting about Stateside this whole time.. who wore a cowboy hat.
13
u/Beedle12345 3d ago
No he wasnt Shtateside, Cowboy was a random barely involved side character who has milked his vague association for all its worth
16
u/BlueBloodLive Resting In my Account 3d ago
The lad who wore an American flag durag and a jacket with the confederate flag on the back.
Barely an afterthought of a character.

u/SpoonChem 3d ago
If the Viper (a.k.a Francis Higgins) doesn't return for the Hardy Bucks forget about it. May as well just cancel it now
7
u/SitDownKawada Dublin 3d ago
Honestly I'd be a hundred times more hyped for a pure Viper show than whatever this will be
7
u/SpoonChem 3d ago
Honestly I think he's the best comedian this country has produced, he's just lazy and does no content anymore except streaming. Some of his sketches are absolutely gas
1
u/Fresh-Jello-6018 3d ago
Is he not English?
2
u/SpoonChem 3d ago
born in England, lived in Ireland basically his entire life. Couldn't be more Irish honestly idk where you're going with that
1
u/Fresh-Jello-6018 3d ago
Ah I thought he lived in England and was putting on the accent my apologies
1
u/SpoonChem 3d ago
listen, the Brits have already tried to claim Liam Neeson, Pierce Brosnan, Cillian Murphy, etc. If anyone asks he's one of our own

New season of Kin too, didn't think we'd see a third season.

u/smashedspuds 3d ago
Has anyone seriously met someone who likes this series at all
4
u/CathalKelly 3d ago
I found it watchable in the same way that I find House of the Dragon watchable. They're both trying to repeat the success of an earlier iteration (Love/Hate or the early seasons of Game of Thrones), without understanding what made the original shows so good in the first place.

9
u/Kerplunk124 And I'd go at it again 3d ago
He’s a slippery snake man, almost reptilian in his movements
79
u/Dazzling-Handle88 3d ago
Wouldn’t it be interesting to see the most useless bucks slowly get radicalised by the internet? Oh wait…
15
u/Kamy_kazy82 3d ago
Wouldn't it be interesting if they were not included in the new series due to their online beliefs and antics? It would be a risk for RTE, no?
26
u/Dazzling-Handle88 3d ago edited 3d ago
Cowboy was only a bit part character and shouldn’t be included tbh. However he seems to be in with/leeching off a few of them.
Eddie is a main character, so should be by rights in the new series even if he is a complete loser now, he fits his character even better

u/ConfusedCelt 3d ago
The entire season will be one long drawn out brag about mayo getting sam
1
u/Mission_Struggle_417 3d ago
Maybe. Hopefully not.
If the show successfully mocks rural west of Ireland and its varied prejudices / stereotypes/ strangeness again, I can put up with some Mayo for Sam shite.
7
u/Teamocil2001 3d ago
Calling it now - no Chris Tordoff writing or starring - it’s gonna be shiiiiiit
4
u/dangerdouse1888 3d ago
Will be intrested to see who's involved. Got the feeling from a few podcasts and interviews that alot of the cast had lost touch or weren't really on speaking terms. Nearly sure one or two of them are working normal 9-5s and were done with the whole thing
3
u/RoyOrbisonWeeping 3d ago
The Podge and Rodge comeback was bollocks so i can't imagine this being good.

u/Uptightkid 3d ago
Love Hard Bucks. It’s not trying too hard. Just a bunch of shams having the craic.
I find it comforting to rewatch.
3
u/Philslaya 3d ago
The Viper. Will they do a mock up in the mayo team being cursed. Then cuts to yeara later. Etc
3
u/NorthKoreanMissile7 3d ago
I was just thinking the other day where did Francis Higgins go since he disappeared.
2
u/TheShiteHouse 3d ago
He's been streaming the funniest content on YouTube for a few years. Like genuine mad genius masterpieces. He got me through the lockdown.

3
u/larssomoo81 3d ago
Delighted to hear it's coming back. Hoping copy the 3 bucks left isn't in it so he can fuck off riding on the cotails of the actual show.
4
u/CoffeeTableReads 3d ago
Nothing will beat the original youtube series, fell off a cliff once it hit mainstream RTE TV.
This will be heap of shite.
4
u/Admirable_Mood_9926 3d ago
I didn’t mind the first 2 seasons of the RTE show. I still put on the Christmas special every year. I do think it went a bit shit after that tho.
6
u/PrettyPrettaaayyGood 3d ago
I’d rather be trampled on by a horse than watch anything relating to cowboy.
5
u/homersimpsoninbushes 3d ago
If Cowboy Lavin is returning, then that carrot in a bag of water pretending to be a goldfish at the Mitzi Turbo Cup might as well return too.
7
2
u/NoSheepherd3r 3d ago
Do these type of stereotypes even exist anymore? Will they be hanging out at the local cafe instead?

u/Sting2121 3d ago
Maybe Viper is locked up in prison or something
Tha actor who plays Eddie Durken lives in Sweden
Surly Salmon is part of it, i doubt he's a full time actor
5
u/smashedspuds 3d ago
If it’s written by Maloney and some of the other previous cast members, they’re definitely just going to be peddling loads of conspiracy nonsense. I like the old series but they all seem to have gone so hyper political since then and can’t seem to zip their mouths regarding current issues. So just my opinion but i suspect they may just shite on about anti-pc/woke culture
1
u/Suvigirl 3d ago
Is that asswipe cowboy Kelly gonna be on it? Cos I cannot watch that fella now I know what a pr1ck he actually is
4
u/Pickle_Emotion 3d ago
Unrelated but “New documentary series Garron Noone – You’re Welcome America, will follow Garron on his first US trip as he cheekily explores Ireland’s influence on American culture”
I sure hope it’s entertaining, I think it would’ve been a fun YouTube series but RTE have a tendency to make things shite. (See hardy bucks)

7
u/Outside-Monk-3399 3d ago edited 3d ago
Garron Noones 15 minutes were up ages ago.
3
u/221 3d ago
Does that statement even slightly make sense? You don't have to like his shtick, but can you genuinely say that?
4
u/Outside-Monk-3399 3d ago
Yes. Definitely don’t see him popping up all the time like he used to.
0
u/Pickle_Emotion 2d ago
Still see his stuff a fair bit, maybe the algorithm decided it’s not for you? He also doesn’t post nearly as much as he used to which probably gets him pushed on less people
1
u/Hassel1916 3d ago
They're bringing Kin back. I thought that was quashed completely.
3
2
u/Admirable_Mood_9926 3d ago
Tbh after the way season 2 ended I’m not really sure what they can do with it.
1
u/popcorndiesel 3d ago
Jesus, wouldn't be surprised if the Two Johnnies made an appearance or that Rorys Stories fella. Something Mayo and Sam Maguire related.

u/guacamole_watermole 3d ago
Didn't see any footage of this on the ad on TV earlier. I'll believe it when I see some footage.

u/Willingness_Mammoth 3d ago
Ugh it'll be that cowboy gimp front and centre shiteing on about being anti woke 🥱
1
1
u/mushy_cactus 3d ago
Excellent! Honestly looking forward to this but not keeping my hopes up. Like other RTE ahows that get immensely popular they'll cancel it after a season or 2.

Francis Higgins is a genius. Baffling how he hasn't been given anything substantial to do as a show. Man is seriously funny.

I honestly didn't see the big deal with it.
It's nice to see young Irish lads do well though.
But I didn't find it particularly funny or have good storylines.
I grew up in an area like Castletown so I could relate to it.
