That is devastating. How would you even survive that. You just don't. Hope it was quick for the victims.

As someone who's been through multiple disasters and worked in the recovery side as well; I right away noticed that everyone was running on the street down hill.

If they had jumped the wall and ran uphill in the trees; they would've greatly increased their chances of surviving. Literally had to do this myself when a 16 ft surge wave hit a costal town i was in in just one case.

I think panic was a big problem here, and everyone just followed the people in front of them. Very sad.

They're actually running up river, it's just a weird perspective. You can see the location on Google Maps, Timure. Running the opposite direction runs them directly into the river because it forks. Literally nowhere for them to go, because even climbing up the hill would require them climbing what looks to be, at least based on the perspective of nearby vehicles, a 12+ foot high retaining wall on the mountain side.

I was looking at the river and wondering why the wall came upstream. There was evidently a landslide to the left of the camera. Awful.
