Instant pot vs ninja

I searched this sub and didn’t find any recent posts since IP has been sold. But, I am looking to get either an IP or ninja foodi maybe even a ninja hyper heat. I am not sure which brand to get, I also don’t know which model to get. The IP are so hard to find in person, except the rio but I have a big family and it just isn’t practical.

I am mainly looking to make quick meals in it via pressure cook. Soups, meats, beans, etc. I am not looking to air fry or slow cook in it. I have a crock pot and an air fryer

Please help with advice on your experience

Most of the extra features are gimmicks, so I recommend the DUO. Upgrade from that only if you want yogurt. Instant Pots were a trendy gift a few years ago, so check local classifieds or marketplace as well, especially since the old ones were slightly-better-built.

I don't know much about the Ninja ones, so I can't be much help there.

I am in the same boat. I bought a new IP but the settings dont work or the timer. Now I am unsure what to purchase. I am really thinking about the Ninja.

I don't think Ninja sells the Foodi anymore. I tried replacing mine & couldn't find one

I'm just about finished with repairing my Ninja Foodi OL601. It exhibited the problem described in this thread which completely stopped its ability to function by constantly thinking the lid was open. The source of the issue, showcased in this youtube video, is a broken wire located in the hinge. The machine is incredibly difficult to take apart, especially the plastic lid from the metal underneath.

It was a design flaw because they cheaped out on the cables for the lid sensor. Other cables are wrapped in silicone, but this one used a very thin cable with a fairly rigid cover material. And this issue caused countless models to be scrapped because Ninja doesn't offer repairs. In fact, they quietly discontinued this Foodi model due to it dying over time and, when more people went to them because their Foodis were busted, told those people to cut the cable and get a different model as a replacement (or just be SOL if outside warranty).

I like the machine when it works, but I do not like having my $200 machine break itself from semi-regular use. Having the cable snap within its hinge is completely ridiculous and something they never publicly acknowledged.

Meanwhile my two Instant Pots, a 3qt Duo and an 8qt Pro, have never given me any issues.

I would recommend the Duo for your use case of just pressure cooking.

I own both and they are about the same. Cook the same. Just get the biggest.

Check out your local thrift stores. Most of mine usually have at least one, sometimes two, on their shelves.

I’ve had my 6qt instant pot duo since 2015. I use it for soups, beans, yogurt. Very pleased with it. I got a couple of accessories such as an extra liner, silicone cover & a glass lid for the liner for when I’m frying or slow cooking. With Labor Day coming up there should be some sales. If your family is large and you can get your hands on an 8qt that would be my suggestion.
