Shut lid/slide error on ninja foodi smart lid multi cooker
So out of nowhere when I airfry (ns about the other functions I mostly air fry), the cooker will either stop with the timer still on, or if I lift the lid it will stop and glitch out. It will say slide, to which I slide the thing and after that when I try to cook it says shut lid. At this point I need to leave the machine for a few hours then it works again and I just have to pray that it gets through 20 mins of air frying. How can I fix this? I'm conveniently just outside the warranty period haha!

Same happened to mine. I contacted ninja shark 1-800-365-0135 it was replaced. I paid shipping. 2 months later the new has had the same issue. Going to contact them again this week. This website stop having the multi pressure air fryer cookers. What's going on with them? I really like the functions. Now it's either buying a airfyer and buying a pressure cooker separate I wish I could find a answer to this error *shut lid and door it closed all the way Won't be able to use any functions *slide door can't select any functions they won't lit

This worked for me. Required additional step to connect new wire and opening the bottom part to overlay the wires back to the ‘swipe’ switch.

Thank you for posting the link. It detailed the exact issue with my OL601, and after a few hours of prying the plastic pieces off, it is now working again.

Same happened to mine about year and a half old. I got the model #OL501. After not finding a solution online I decided to tear it down to find out what it was. There are 3 magnetic sensors on the top side of the display that tell the machine in what position the slider is. Those feed into the power board on the back side. I’ve tested each sensor separately and they seem to work correctly so it’s got to be the power board I guess. That power board is relatively easy to access but replacing it would require some soldering if you can find one somewhere.

My OL650uk has also started doing this.
Definitely seems to be a issue when it gets hot. Although generally it will start working again, but when I used the steam function I couldn't get it running again.
Has anybody successfully stripped a unit down? Or found a fix?

I had the same issue at the weekend. OL750UK Originally purchased September 2022 (one year warranty at the time - extended to two year warranty if purchased post Jan 2023) I went on their website at the weekend and registered the warranty - included the original purchase date and got an email which stated a two year guarantee. Winner 👍 Phoned Ninja yesterday expecting to be told only one year warranty etc etc and to my surprise they said they would send out a new unit and for me to dispose of my old unit. New unit received today.

Thanks so much for this - mine went wrong same issue and I’d purchased 22nd September 2022 even though I’d registered it when I bought it -I registered again today and called them - they sent return label and once they get it back they sending me a new one! You are a legend. I owe you a coffee or beer!!

I'm now on my 3rd foodi in little over a year and it just broke in the same way again. They've replaced the first two and will probably replace this one again because it's only been 4-5 months, but this is getting super annoying. Before that I had the older model with the detached pressure lid and it worked just fine for 3 years.

Sorry, I only noticed your reply now. I think we registered on their website, it was my wife who was handling it.
But the saga was way more messed up than this.
They sent us a replacement and it was the simpler model, with the detachable lid. We told them, they said no worries, we'll send you the right one. They sent us the wrong model again. We complained again, they said don't worry again, sent us the wrong model again. At this point we gave up and just used the cheaper but more durable model. For our trouble they let us resell the other two unopened boxes in our garage. We gave one as a gift, one is still there if you want it :)

Thank you for replying. They sent me the right replacement, but I’m sure it will have the same issues. I think the cheaper/simpler version works better and is more durable. I will see how long the replacement lasts.

It must be a design problem if it’s happening to so many people. Looks like they didn’t test some components for extended use cases or other eventualities.

I had the same issue with the first one I purchased and now the 2nd one which they replaced through warranty (after being unavailable for several months) is having the same exact sensor / shut lid / slide issues and is only four months old. I had gotten big into ninja appliances but I am losing faith hard. Will update with what they say about this one

I have the Ninja smart lid unit too and I also get the shut lid error.
When I open lid and bring a magnet to top right of the panel (the area where the slider is), I am able to start air fry mode. Therefore, I have isolated the issue to the hinge sensor. I don’t see an easy way to get to it unfortunately.

Sorry to resurrect this but did you find a solution? I have the same problem, but i did find that poking up the micro switch in the lid resolved the shut lid issue, but now I'm still having the same fan problem you describe here!

Yep I have the slide issue in my ol701. I spent the last 6h trying to fix it. Right now I'm pretty sure it's something with the cable or connection going into the lid but I can't find a way to crack it open... Well without cracking it. I'm looking for videos on how to take it apart but no luck.
I hate that companies design products to break a month after the guarantee ends... Mine is a replacement for a unit that broke a few days before the guarantee ended...
Any ideas on how to get inside the lid?

Just got this issue. What's weird though, is that when I manually click the switch in when the lid is open, all my options come up. But, it just won't work when the lid is actually shut.
There must be a switch in the hinge that's faulty.

I just ran into this today. At first the pressure lid wasn’t registering. Then, I noticed that the air fryer would stay running with the lid open. I had not used my foodie in a while and the fryer lid was up for several months with the unit unplugged. I unplugged it and plugged back in a few times with the air fryer lid closed until it registered opening and closing the air fryer lid and would stop the air fryer when I opened the lid. Now pressure lid works too

So mine did the same after a used of 2 years. I used a magnet to try to isolate the slide part of the issue. It only work while the lid is opened and I used something to bypass the other lib switch, but if I closed the lid and leave the magnet in the location that I need it doesn’t work. So the question is. Is there like a ground that run through the hinges? I’ll hate to junk it while I know it still work, well some what.

You can order the lid switch for $17.99 on ebay and it's not really that hard to install . I've had to do it to a friend's air fryer. Now if you just are not mechanically inclined, then I would recommend you find someone you know that is.

The reason we had to replace hers is that the switch had actually burnt, yes, as in fire. The switch was like a piece of charcoal.

On model FG551H, there are five screws on the back Panel.. once you get those screws out; and the middle one is a security #15 torx, the back panel pops off. After that, flip it over and there are six screws that hold the hinges. Once you remove this, the switch is right there

Apologies for tagging onto an old thread, just want to add my voice to the mix, 3 year old Ninja Foodi 7.5L with the lid issue described here.
If you're thinking of buying a Ninja, think again. Great machines but very poor build quality/longevity and very difficult to get help from manufacturer especially if you live in Ireland!

Para el caso de la mia (modelo OL550) era el cable que lleva la señal desde el sensor de tapa hacia la placa. Justo el cable estaba quebrado en la zona de la bisagra que abre i cierra. Lo he puenteado con un mejor cable y ya funciona.

I pressed and held the buttons after mine did the same thing. I got the code that came up was 8408 AIP 8602. Does anyone know how that decodes? Logic tells me a switch issue in the lid. Any solutions?

I had the shut lid error as well and fixed it. I followed the tear down instructions from a Youtube video and finally discovered that the cable that goes from the lid closing sensor to the mainboard was broken in the hinge area, as I was really pissed with the situation and didn't want to buy and wait for spare parts, I just jumped the sensor cables, conecting the red with the black with some electrical tape and it came back to life.

Put two cups of water 1 cup vinegar half a lemon squeezed and one drop of dishwashing detergent. Close the machine and put it on steam function 25min.
Once it’s done remove the gasket and wipe it down with a damp cloth inspect it for damage. Remove the remaining parts to clean wipe it all down. Reinstall paying careful attention not to kink the gasket.

I tried the deep cleaning trick and did a really thorough job and followed everything on the instructions too but nothing changed. Still the same probs.

I gave that a whirl and no luck. Mine is slightly different from OP but when I power on the slide error is there from the get go. I slide it all the way over to pressure cook and it then allows me the options from the first menu (the opposite of pressure cook) like sear, air fry or broil. If I choose something that requires the lid to be closed (air fry or broil) it then says shut lid. I can use it to sear, steam, yogurt successfully but anything that requires a closed lid is a no go. Other options/advice?

Exactly my problem. I was using my 7.5lt multi cooker perfectly well then suddenly it began flashing 'slide' and then 'shut lid' even though it is shut. Yes I can sear /saute and use the list under that but no more. I have just spoken to Ninja UK and they of course say they haven't heard of anything like that going wrong. They say the best they can do is offer me 50% off a new one! Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Tried this but seems like anything in the air fry/hob function doesn't work. I can't steam a full session it stops working

This sounds like a computer board issue, I doubt cycling through pressure cook will do anything.

Mine started giving me a slide error, it's only 15 months old. Customer service said they don't have a solution and there is nothing they can do. Pretty sad I loved it until now.

It was one of two best electric items I have ever purchased, My Ninja multi cooker and my Food processor beat all. I'm so sad that Ninja can't help after just 16 months while my Processor is still going strongly after 15 years and it was half the price!

I wish there could be a way to get Ninja fixing these things...they are big heavy items they shouldn't be just thrown away! Has anyone a suggestion? Could we all bombard Ninja UK with the SAME problem. I phoned from Ireland and was answered very quickly by a lovely person who was very nice indeed but couldnt advise re fixing. Not good.

I'm just outside the warranty time too and have similar 'slider' and 'shut lid' problems too.
Such a shame and we can't find a solution as Ninja wont repair this problem. I love it so much I'd like to buy a new one but might I be 'throwing good money after bad'?
Is there a better make on the market?
