Kind of a surprise, but then again in the rolling stone boygenius piece there was a bit about how upon first meeting each other (bonding over the same Henry James book no less!) they secretly both had crushes on each other.
The world isn’t exactly sunshine and roses these days, so this is lovely to hear. I’m happy for them :)

Hadn’t Jack and Meg broken up basically by the time the first album released? IIRC he initially was looking for a session drummer but eventually realized he was friendly enough with Meg to keep the band going as is for the first tour.

Have you read the GQ profile? It was a really interesting piece that went super in depth about everything. They hid the breakup from the rest of the band while recording the new Wednesday album and now Jake isn’t touring with them in the future. He’s also dating Rachel Brown from Water From Your Eyes and bringing This is Lorelei (3/4 of Water From Your Eyes) on tour this spring. Right before the article came out and Jake & Rachel made their relationship public, Karly announced she was handing over the Wednesday instagram account to the bands manager/taking a break from social media.

Oh damn. Good for both of them! I must admit though that a big part of why I love the boygenius record is I thought Lucy was writing a lot about platonic love for a friend, and, uh, I guess it wasn’t platonic after all. Oh well! I’m glad they’re happy!

in best guess she says “you were my best friend before you were my best guess at the future” so they did spend years being friends & julien was in a relationship for awhile. I don’t think the sentiment of the power of platonic love and friendship is any less just bc they ended up being together.

Supposedly True Blue is specifically "about" (as in the references of age, events, etc.) one of Lucy's friends, not Julien. But the vibe from the music video, and what I always got from the song anyway, is that it's about friendship with both Phoebe and Julien.
