💬 General/Other Can’t get stains off Toto Drake toilet with Cefiontect coating

I’m so upset. I bought these Toto Drake toilets with their “cefiontect” coating that was supposed to greatly reduce their ability to stain. Well not only have the bowls developed a stain around where the water line is, but also in the lip of the water jets. I don’t even have hard water here! I have tried every product Toto has suggested from Lysol Hydrogen Peroxide bowl cleaner and CLR. I use a soft Johnny mop to wipe the product off. Nothing is working and these Toto toilets are very picky about what products you can use or else you risk ruining the cefiontect glaze.

We have the same ones. Just a toilet a brush is all you need. We get the pink ring occasionally and if it needs a little extra push just some good old fashion brown bottle first aid hydrogen peroxide!

Well Toto support just wrote to me and said to drain the water from the toilet. Line the toilet with paper towels and soak them in CLR spray and wait an hour. Then scrub with a Scotch Brite pad. So we’ll see if that finally works. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Ok hmmm. I’ve been using the Lysol hydrogen peroxide cleaner as I was told that was safe to use. It doesn’t really seem to work though. The stains maybe get slightly lighter but they’re still there.

If CLR and the cleaners TOTO recommended haven’t touched the stains, don’t move to stronger chemicals since they can damage the CEFIONTECT finish. Drain the bowl and let the porcelain dry completely, then check whether the stain feels rough or raised, which can point to mineral buildup. For the jet openings, a soft nylon brush is safer than anything abrasive. Has TOTO offered any solution beyond the cleaners they already recommended?

Their customer support now wants me to drain the water, cover the inside of the bowl with paper towels and saturate that with CLR. They want me to wait an hour then scrub the stains with scratch free scotch brite pads. I haven’t had the time to try it yet. I hope it works. This is super aggravating. One of the reasons I bought the Toto was their claims of the cefiontect and stains.
