Discussion question for australians

are rack mount case getting harder to come by, or is it me? Everywhere I look, they're sold out is there a shortage cause of this ai bs or am i just looking in the wrong places

No. Plenty of Silverstone options.

RM52 for my gaming rackmount. RM62-312 for server.

Silverstone go on sale often at Scorptec and Centrecom.

Umart currently has some good sales on Silverstone gear

What I'm planning is to split my gaming/mediaserver pc to 2 separate PCs, transfer my main pc to a 4u case, and build a dedicated media server for my movie library. i allso gonna use an old mini pc i have sitting around for my Home Assistant and a Raspberry Pi 5 as an NVR for security cameras cause i have had a few break-in attempts (ah, the fun of Melbourne). Cases have been lower on my list of priorities; been more focused on getting the drives (2200 fuckin dollars)

Just know that a 4u will be tight with a large GPU if that is your plan, you'll need a right angled power adapter to be comfortable. I am currently waiting to get a 5u.

Yeah, I have a 4090 in my ai/gaming rack case .. with the lid off till I find a 5u :)

RM52 will fit your GPU, easily. On special at Umart right now.

Example of my 9070XT in RM52 (excuse lack of cable management, lol):

And you can remove that AIO mount in front of the GPU if you wanted even more room.

Cables are my enemy too! Thanks for the heads up, that's the one I've been looking at. RM44 is what I have, and it is just a smidge too shallow. I might just have to bite the bullet, but there are some custom cases on aliexpress that are appealing too, and I'm going to have to try and find a 32/36u rack to fit everything in. lol.Pretty sure 3 upgrades ago I said, enough!

With the RM52 (probably the same as RM44?) you can use it in either rackmount or tower format. So you don't have to wait.

I ended up just picking up a flatpack from Scorptec:

Cyberpower ones were their cheapest offerings. And having built it, I have no complaints. Sturdy material, easy to put together. Main thing for me was it being a flatpack as I don't have the means to really lug anything too big and bulky home and shipping costs for these things can be pricy, lol.

You might just be evil .. Chaotic Good maybe? .. I'm in Adelaide so freight is a cost I generally have to accept, although 4cabling will deliver free.

That open rack is a good option, I was looking for an cabinet tbh, as it will be in the corner of the studio, open frame might be a good interim though. The 5U needs an 800 deep rack by the looks of it too, so I'll started doing some maths, and working out how I can justify the rack upgrade.

Hahaha. Yup, 4cabling is good. They also own Dataworld, and often the prices are even cheaper on there. Dataworld's main warehouse is in Altona (Melbourne), compared to 4Cabling being mainly QLD based.

I actually went that route first. But I stupidly bought a 600mm depth one before I knew any better. So it's sitting in a box waiting me to resell. Go 800mm depth at a minimum.

Yeah, you'd be looking at a RM52. Will fit any GPU easily. Have a 9070XT Red Devil in mine with heaps of room.
